I'd be more interested in Adam Eaton rumors (unlikely) or Gerardo Parra rumors.

Jim Bowden seems to think Arizona already has a deal lined up for Kubel.  I'd guess Seattle, Texas, NYY, Philly or Atlanta.  He speculated the Mets could be in that group, but I don't see it, especially of they're sold on Duda as the left fielder this year.

Kubel is a great fit for Yankee Stadium.

Another offseason where all the FA guys fly off the board, and we are left with the scraps.

Seems like it's a minimum of 3 years @ $27 million (including a 4th year buyout).

Ross gets 3/26 with a 4th yr option/$1 million buy out. Not sure I would have guaranteed him 3 yrs.

1- They aren't dealing Upton.

2- I don't get this signing when they have Kubel, Upton, Eaton, Parra, and now Ross.

3- I'd take Parra from them, but wouldn't trade a ton for him.

Arizona is, in fact, working to trade an outfielder, in the aftermath of the Ross deal. Kubel is regarded as the most likely guy to be dealt

Parra might be a good buy low candidate.

I think Zona is most likely to deal Kubel, that way payroll isn't really impacted by the Ross signing.

Parra would be a really solid addition for Atlanta.

This Adam Eaton fellow seems interesting, too. Too bad AZ has no reason to move him.

Other than a couple guys, this offseason there wasn't anything but scraps, IMO.

Seriously. Ross isn't much of a prize, especially at that price.

Re: OT: Arizona to sign Cody Ross

Anybody who's surprised by the contract Ross is getting hasn't been paying attention this winter. His deal seems about right to me in the context of what various players have gotten this winter. Yeah, it feels like an overpay but I think this is the state of economics in the game now. Prospects are now so highly valued by teams that they'd rather overpay FAs than trade prospects for the equivalent talent.

So if you're Sandy you're left with several choices:

1) do nothing and accept that you have gaping holes in your OF;
2) trade prized prospects for someone halfway decent;
3) trade second tier prospects for more Cowgill types;
4) Hold your nose and pay the going rate on the FA market for an OF.

1 is a horrible choice. It's the equivalent of not trying at all. 2 isn't going to happen period. 3 seems like the most likely choice to me but probably isn't much better than 1, really. And 4, given that almost everyone worth having has already signed, is quickly heading toward not being a possibility.

Sandy will choose #5...wait until there is no one left but the unwanted and then pick over the bodies for anyone still breathing...for cheap

We were never in the game for Cody Ross...I don't know why anyone ever thought we were.

Oh, I get it, but our OF is like the scraps of the scraps. We need someone to play out there.

Maybe it's best to go with the 5 guys we've got and let them sink or swim so that we know going forward if any of them are keepers.
