Alderson: Mets Looking To Acquire Another Starter
According to Alderson, on the teleconference to confirm the R.A. Dickey deal - he's looking for a starting pitcher, who can take the ball on a guaranteed rotation spot.
...........or at least that's what I'm presuming, after hearing that whoever it might be, would not be in a competition.
Wonder where it'd come from?

RE: Alderson: Mets Looking To Acquire Another Starter
I was actually surprised by this quote from Sandy. You figure whoever this mystery starter is is just a placeholder until Wheeler comes up, unless the organization plans on moving Gee to the bullpen at some point.

Re: Alderson: Mets Looking To Acquire Another Starter
I would love for a signing like Liriano. I think he could really benefit in a move to the NL/Citi Field.

I liked the Marcum idea...but I wonder if he'll be out of their price range. Was he injured last year? Why are things so quiet on him?

RE: Alderson: Mets Looking To Acquire Another Starter
I think he is going to wait out the market and pick up someone late.

If he wants to pick up some value on a one year deal (like Capuano--I believe Sandy even referred to Capuano as the type of signing they are looking to make) it could be a good situation for Marcum (pitching home games in Citi Field).

And he was very mediocre when healthy... That's why I like him...maybe he's a bit cheaper and there's some upside there. FWIW, Bill James projects him to 12 wins and 3.63 ERA in 196 innings...sounds pretty close to what Sandy said they are looking for.

Re: Alderson: Mets Looking To Acquire Another Starter
I was also very surprised when I heard Alderson speak of interest in another starter.
I've got a FA name to take a flyer on: Tim Stauffer.

If we had a better pitching coach I'd be all over Liriano. Still has fastball velocity, he's just lost his command since 2010. Sounds like Ollie 2.0, but for just one year?

Re: Alderson: Mets Looking To Acquire Another Starter
I predict Joe Saunders wins the sweepstakes......I'd think the Mets would want a durable guy that could go 200 innings.....even if they are unerwhelming innings. Everybody else has some injury history to them or is ancient or prob wouldn't play in NY. I think Pavano is an interesting option.....but I doubt he wants to test the NY waters again.

RE: Alderson: Mets Looking To Acquire Another Starter
Jeff Karstens? He actually had a 3.32 FIP last season. Doesn't walk anyone. His K's, though still below average have been on the rise. BB's and HR's on the decline. If healthy, I think he he could be in line for his best season.
Risky because he has dealt with injuries...Mets might want someone a little safer.

RE: Alderson: Mets Looking To Acquire Another Starter
Marcum, Jackson and Braden (is he healthy?) would be interesting
Jackson would be solid
Marcum would, I think, have more upside

I could see round three of the Chris Young Experience.
