I thought i had heard a couple days ago that Dempster turned down this deal from Boston. That report I guess was either untrue or maybe he had second thoughts.

is that the 6th FA they've signed so far?  Good thing the Dodgers helped them clear some payroll...  eek

This create's a huge hole in the Texas Ranger pitching staff, plus losing Hamilton CF. They need to make a big splash, like trading for a Cy Young type pitcher ?

Go Mets...Cyborg

think about it.....Texas has now lost Hamilton, Young, Napoli from the lineup. They'll plug in Jurickson Profar at 2B and move Kinsler to 1B. The rotation lost Dempster and probably needed to upgrade before that.......now they are desperate.

the Rangers have tons of high ceiling pitching prospect depth.  and there are plenty of FA starters very available.  I don't see them as desperate.

I'm not so sure relying upon unknown prospects is a good idea. Martin Perez is already looking shaky. Scheppers is no world beater either. Who else is going to front a rotation with Darvish? Rangers have exited the postseason because their pitching is mediocre. Holland and Harrison are regular season guys that give innings, but hardly reliable short series power arms. Rangers mistake was adding darvish, but letting Wilson go.....they never upgraded the rotation enough heading into 2012 and thus found themselves at the deadline getting Dempster who proved to be mediocre. Now they sit in a spot worse than 3 years ago with a depleted lineup. Maybe Nolan is taking 2013 on the chin to develop...but if they want to win they better get cracking.

Welcome to the the AL East Mr Dempster. Heard them say on ESPN radio today, Dempster was 0-4 with a 7 ERA against Yankees lifetime.

He turned down 2/$25M. This is 2/$26.5M.  That last $1.5M was the difference maker. I know I would have taken the job for that $1.5.

I guess if 2/$26.5M is a solid deal for a 35 year-old former fireballer with a now sub-90 FB averaging about 3.80 FIP the last three years and only 173 IP last year, then 2/$20M sounds about right for a 38 year-old knuckleballer with a 83mph FB who averaged 3.6 FIP the last 3 years and threw 233 innings...and won the Cy Young award.

Given this market, I'd sign Dickey quick before he asks for more. Also, I wouldn't sign any FAs at these prices, and simply give farm hands such as Lagares, Campbell, Pena and Centeno a chance.

Amazing deal for a guy who was known as "Ryan Dumpster" in Cincy a few years ago.

he is one of those guys who has made a nice career for himself after a really crappy start to it, but with that said, I dont see him pitching that well in Boston....just a gut feeling.
