Wow....common sense prevails for a change! .......all the while, I was hoping for the "amicably parted ways" story this off-season, but never expected it to happen.

Thanks for the memories. Maybe T. Hunter's contract will take his place.

RE: Jason Bay Contract Terminated
You have to figure there is a decent sized buy out, especially since they would consider the option. Im sure it wont take long to hear the particulars, tho.

Joel Sherman @Joelsherman1
Bay is getting all $21M he is owed, the $16M salary, the $3M buyout and the $2M left on a signing bonus. Some is being deferred #Mets
Joel Sherman @Joelsherman1
#Mets probably investigated found no trade for Bay, felt untenable to bring back, save few $ by deferring or else makes no sense |

No matter what, it beats bringing him back for ST - and hearing the garbage about them being confident in "getting something out of him".
Enough with bringing back known-targets, and having them walk right into the line of fire.

Oh, geez. But, honestly, I almost think the union wouldnt allow for much less than this. I suppose they could have fought the option/buy out, but probably not worth it.

RE: Jason Bay Contract Terminated
Our best FA deal to date: Jason Bay, 5 years, $21M, no baseball ;)
I wish I was joking.

Interesting that he is getting the whole nut. I'm curious to see how much is deferred.

I'm baffled if he is getting the whole thing and the Mets don't have enough OFs.

RE: Jason Bay Contract Terminated
He has a guaranteed contract, he sort of has to get the whole amount. Unless, out of the goodness of his heart, he says, "hey, keep a few million...." ;) Part of me was really hoping that was the case.

RE: Jason Bay Contract Terminated
I guess if you defer enough, it gives the Mets a few more bucks this offseason...and also opens up a spot on the 40 man. From the Mets perspective, it makes sense because he was just wasting space anyway and further turning off the fanbase. It makes sense from Bay's perspective too. I'm sure he didn't want to go through another season feeling like (and being treated like) a complete failure. For his sake, he can take the year off or give it a try on a one year deal in a park that is more hitter friendly.
