AIA should be ashamed

AIA should be ashamed

AIA doesnt give D 6 any respect. Semi finals having to play in the heat of the day and after the game locked out of the showers and after they got the doors open no water for players to shower. AIA is showing small ball no respect and need a boot placed in their derriere.

I agree. The AIA should have as serious and professional a venue for D6 as for any other division.

I totally agree.....     Don't see why they don't hold the Div 6 games at Glendale Community College, or at Scottsdale Community College.

AIA only cares about the big schools.....   the small schools are just an after thought.

RE: AIA should be ashamed

The AIA is going low budget with playoff venues. They have also made many districts mad about the way they do business, and those districts are not letting them use their fields. Don't be surprised to see the upper division games at subpar fields too.
The field yesterday for the D6 semis was a joke. The lines looked like they had not been painted in weeks. No numbers, no yard lines, no grass. The stands are old and rickety and dark. They AIA should be ashamed!

RE: AIA should be ashamed

Organizationally, I agree with your statements on the AIA.  Its hard to defend the choices they have made regarding venues, scheduling and systems of school alignment.  They routinely do the minimum and demonstrate very little vision for High School athletics in AZ.  In additon, their interpersonal relations with schools and individuals representing schools is abysmal.  I have a couple stories I could share from just this season that would make you shake your head but if you cant say anything good...

In essence, dealing with the AIA is too often adversarial instead of complimentary.  Thats really sad.

Whats even sadder is that the schools could force change - if they wanted to.  The AIA only exists because the schools allow it to.

AZ schools themselves should demand reformation of the AIA. The current board has not exercised adequate leadership and should be repalced.  The board should enlarged .  Schools at every division level should be formed into meaningful districts or sections.  Each section should have a Section Chair that participates meaningfully in discussions about issues relating to that section.  Open and transparent meetings should be held so that these issues are discussed well in advance so they dont become problems.

Planning and strategies should be made at this level and implemented by the AIA staff.  Not the other way around.  AZ HS atheltics should be a bottom up process not a top down process like it currently is.

It was ridiculous to see that field last night.  It was not in very good shape, the numbers weren't painted, and it didn't look professional at all.  These kids deserve better.  The playoffs are special and should be treated as such.  This felt like a game in Ajo.  Hopefully Sunnyslope will learn from this and make the necessary improvements for the championship game!

Don't blame it on Slope. They are wiling to host. They should never have been put in position to have to use their crappy facilities. The AIA should supply the paint for the field and guide the Slope people on how to paint it.

Re: AIA should be ashamed

Well, we pull up to Sunnyslope and get out a parent had sweatshirts donated t the whole team, so he was pulling them out and passing them out, the site director asks if we can take them in the locker room and that we were blocking traffic, we were there well 2 hours ahead of time. There was no traffic, but anyway I'm walking across looking at the field and the only lines i can see are green soccer lines, so when the site administrator comes to the kicker room i ask her if they are going to line the field. She gets all offended and says"no were going to host a football game and not line the field". I reply by telling her I'm sorry but i didn't see any lines but green soccer lines. I get down to the field and out looks like they were painted last week, they were very faint.

Them after the game, we need to shower and it takes 45 minutes to get the water o, so the team leaves without showers.

I know it has been this way for while but a 2 pm start time for a semi final game is stupid. Makes it glorified pop Warner. Need some upgrades big time

Re: AIA should be ashamed

not sure what you expect them to do about a 2pm start???  very difficult to play 2 games at the same site without somone playing in the afternoon.......

but the facilities and people running the facilities could and should be MUCH nicer...  No showers???  No Grass??? No Lines???   a press box that looks like it might collapse at any moment.... field was pretty dark as well.

Was the field lined at 40 yards wide?  Or did they leave it 53?

what time does D1,2 or 3 start their semi playoff games? im just guessing but i bet its not 2 in the afternoon. you could start a game at 5 and the next game at 8 or two diffrent fields and start both at 7

Re: AIA should be ashamed

Kickoff times were 4pm and 7pm back when the 1A semis were played at AJ.

So at least the 2nd half of the 1st game was played under the lights.

Re: AIA should be ashamed

It is up to your athletic directors, that you pay for, to organize and demand something better. One or two squeaky wheels, or a message board will not gt th changes you desire, or the changes these kids deserve.

Re: AIA should be ashamed

Sprinkler is absolutely correct.

My comments on a message board mean nothing. I know that.

Metro is well meaning but posting the AIA officials public tel number and address is a waste of time also. Youre plowing the sea if you think they will respond to that tactic in any way. Sorry. But true.

The only option is for parents, coaches, school administators to pressure their respective school boards and central administrative heads to collectively demand reform at the AIA. Thats you only hope. All else is just us complaining to each other.
