Re: D1 preseason preview

I think you have Desert Ridge too high. From the sounds of it, Hathcock has to prepare two different offenses, one with the Morrisons and one without. And we still don't know if and when they will be back or what their relationship with Hathcock is at this point.

Brophy could be a top 8 team and go 0-6. Corona and Dobson are the only games they are out and out favorites in right now. Desert Vista, Desert Mountain, and Red Mountain are toss ups. But to get games against BG, Centennial, and Chap as your non-D-1 slate is ridiculous. Oh, and to face MP, Desert Ridge, and Hamilton that are clearly favorites... I have never seen a schedule this difficult in all the time I have been watching AZ Football. To navigate this schedule and make the playoffs... even go 6-5 will be Coach of the Year for Scooter.

We will know on Friday what they have. If they can even play competitive they might be OK.

Was really tough picking a QB. Anyway I go, I am right and wrong. Lewerke, Perkins and Sneed are studs.

Last OL spot was tough as well. I really like Ryan DeLung. Same with DB, really like Kochheiser from Gilbert and Austin Williams from Basha. Deion Warren was very close to making the athlete spot. Could have made Lucas a DB.

Doesn't DI only have like 29 teams? Thus more than half of the teams in the classification will qualify for the post-season. What is this, the NHL? DII has almost 40 right?. Just seems out of whack ....

That's because the AIA allowed 8 or 9 to petition down last year, and yes it makes it very out of whack

Of the 44 teams (D2) 16 made playoffs, 28 didn't. The best record of a team that did not make playoffs was 6-5. Everyone else had 7 wins or more. Division 3 was in the same boat, with a few 6 win teams out of playoffs. D1 had roughly 6-7 teams with 5 or 6 win seasons. But you throw back in the schools who petitioned down, maybe you need 6 to 7 wins to make playoffs in D1 now.

Seems like 7 wins will get you in the playoffs in each of the divisions from just a quick comparison.

Brophy has a brutal schedule, but I don't see them losing to Desert Mountain or Desert Vista (barring injuries) unless those teams have more talent returning than I know about. Corona and Dobson are easy wins.

Red Mountain is a toss-up, Desert Ridge (at least for now) is a toss-up. Centennial and Chap are slight favorites. I see Brophy winning at least one of these 4 games.

BG, MP, and Hamilton are heavily favored.

My prediction is that Brophy will go atleast 5-6, and if things go right for them 6-5 or 7-4.

Anyway you slice it though, it's by far the toughest schedule in Arizona.
