Cmon Kadeem, Get it together

Arizona’s All-American RB removed from basketball game

Arizona running back Ka’Deem Carey already has a legal problem on his hands involving a possible domestic abuse situation with his ex-girlfriend for which Carey was charged with disorderly conduct and assault (he has pleaded not guilty).

Now, the All-American is in the news again for something less serious, but nevertheless adding to an increasingly poor off-the-field perception.

The Daily Wildcat reports that Carey was removed from last Thursday’s Arizona basketball game against UCLA after a “verbal confrontation” with both event staff and police. According to a police report on the incident, Carey and his cousin, Hakeem Adams-Johnson, were asked to move from their seats multiple times because they didn’t have tickets.

That’s when Carey allegedly pulled the “Do you know who I am?” card.

When the officer asked both of them for their tickets, Carey responded, “Get the f— out of my face.” He then asked, ‘Do you know who I am? I’m an All-American.”

Carey was referred to the Dean of Students Office for a code of conduct violation for the incident. Don’t expect anything to come of this in terms of a suspension, but it’s certainly not a flattering look for Carey.

Only a Soph and already trying to act like the big man on campus, being a collegiate All-American never has and never will get you into free basketball games. Now maybe if he was a Jr. or Sr. preparing for the NFL Combine in a couple weeks, people might of overlooked the fact that he didn't have tickets?

I wonder what he was taught during junior high and high school? I wonder who his models for behavior were? Whoever influenced him the most, it is apparent the results are now beginning to surface, but hey, he was on a winning team...wink...Let's hope he doesn't become the next Maurice Clarett and can get it together in time...

Remember...Galileo was once deemed a Heretic...

Kadeem is following in a long line of great running backs who have found fame off the field:

Maurice Clarett

Bam Morris

Lawrence Phillips

Travis Henry

OJ Simpson

My personal favorite on that list is Lawrence Phillips, due to the fact that one of his offenses was trying to run over a bunch of teenagers after playing a game of touch football with them.  It's one of those things you wouldn't believe until the moment the name "Lawrence Phillips" is attached to it.

I like the OJ story about him busting into a hotel room in Vegas to rob some guy that was selling his old memorabilia.  Yes, the Lawrence Phillips story is classic.  So is the Travis Henry selling drugs to support his 13 kids story.  In fact, all of these are pretty good stories.  Well, except that OJ killed two people.

Lawrence Phillips was enabled by Mr Law and Order, Tom Osborne who as Senator had amnesia how he was as coach.  Osborne attacked Philips' victims (all women).  How dare they have vaginas! He played and played well after an arrest for an assault on a women's basketball player.  Most other programs would have dismissed him but Philips helped NU win the national championship in the Fiesta Bowl.

K'Deem's Heisman hopes are buried, no way will a committee consider him with his off-the-field issues.

While Phillips has become synonymous with being a despicable human being, people forget now just how good he was at Nebraska.

I read an article the other day about how Ozzie Newsome has built the Ravens and there was an anecdote about the team's first year in Baltimore after moving from Cleveland.  Owner Art Modell wanted to draft Lawrence Phillips with the fourth overall pick because he though an exciting tailback would help sell tickets in their new city.  However, new GM Newsome decided to go with left tackle Jonathan Ogden instead (and picked Ray Lewis later in the first round).  Looks like things worked out well for the Ravens.
