Todd Peat to GCC

Press conference spoiled the news before I could tell everyone. He has left Nebraska and is headed to GCC.

Re: Todd Peat to GCC

So how does his elgibility go with this move? Lose two years of division 1, then another 1 at JC, then he can go back to d1 for 1-2 years?

He redshirted in 2011 and was a freshman in 2012.  In 2013, he would either spend his sophomore season at GCC or sitting out if he attends a D-I school.  That would leave him with 2 more seasons ('14 & '15).

What is it with Arizona O-Linemen and not panning out on the big stages? Arizona's skill guys do good (Look at Kadeem Carey) but it seems like AZ's Linemen just flop

I'm sure the likes of Randall McDaniel, Levi Jones, Lyle Sendlein, Taylor Lewan (about to be a top ten pick), etc. would disagree with the above comment, as would the multitude of other players starting at PAC 10 and other schools around the nation.

Re: Todd Peat to GCC

Most players don't pan out at the next level. It's not unique to our state or the position these kids play. It's just the harsh reality of college football. We only have about 40-50 kids annually that sign D1 or 1-AA, therefore the amount of players that start or end up playing is probably going to be pretty small.

But remember, for guys like Peat and Westerman, it's far from the end of their journey. You can't really say they busted just because they transferred. If they never see the field by the time they graduate then that would hold some weight. Transfers do great at new schools all the time, you really just never know.

Maybe he was working out just fine and decided he didn't like being there. I wish him the best and hope this re-set is exactly what he was looking for.

It seems that more and more transfers are happening, especially in basketball. Is it just me or do others feel that way?

I don't know, I think former AZ HS OL Tyler Johnston from Hamilton did pretty well tonight and this whole year for Oregon.

I'm with Tnasty here, don't think you can make those generalizations based on selective criteria. Tyler Johnston played well last night for the Ducks and Taylor Lewan is a beast and will be one of the top linemen in the draft. Grass isn't always greener and going from the big fish to a little fish over in the big pond doesn't always work out. Nothing wrong with transfers when expectations and circumstances don't match up.

Re: Todd Peat to GCC

Hmm, I think it is a mixture of social networking keeping everyone up on top caliber athletes each time they wipe their nose, plus the diminishing belief that transferring schools is an embarrassing act. It used to be that folks really didn't publicize the fact they couldn't make things work at school A, so they were transferring to school B.  Now it seems that 'de-committing' is seen as a somewhat acceptable decision by more and more people, so these moves are noted more and more by public communication forums.
