Question about Robert Relf? Is he under-valued?

Question about Robert Relf? Is he under-valued?

I posted this on the ASU Huddle board:

I'm thinking of Robert Relf, OLB from Brophy. 2* by Scout.

He is listed at 6-2 210lbs.

Just committed to Florida Atlantic and his other offers were from low level programs.

I've seen Brophy two times on TV and have read many articles on him as being a consistent playmaker on the field.

I recognized his name from following last season's track and field competitions.  He runs a legit 11.0e in the 100m.

That tells me he could be a Safety if OLB did not fit him at the D-1 level.  He would also be a great fit on special teams.  I could see him being a great gunner on the Punt team.

For those with more knowledge of the HS scene, why is he being so neglected?  Why given 2* when he is a legit playmaker on a well respected program?

He's a playmaker, has speed, adequate size, and I'm sure is a quality kid and student.  This is a 2* that I would offer.  His overall profile draws my attention.

Very good question. I thought that myself after seeing him play against Santa Margarita. Wonder why ASU didn't offer him since they are trying to keep talent in-state.

Relf is one of those players who is made for the defensive side of the ball, he loves to hit and is always around the ball.  His frame can support a little more size and I am sure he would be a great special team player right away and would grow into a starter.

I am very surprised that he has not attracted more offers..

Re: Question about Robert Relf? Is he under-valued?

Relf is 6 3 and has been listed most recently at 220 which I can believe. According to Marine Combine last year he ran a 4.56 40. That is blazing. ASU and U of A totally missed the boat on this kid and this wasn't even a hard decision based on what I saw. I asked the same question about him (why he wasn't getting bigger offers) and was told that he didn't do any spring stuff to get seen by evaluators. The 2 stars is just a token.

I don't see it either, but I have heard from people that his lateral movement is the problem at LB. His size seems to be ideal and the times I have seen him play, he looks like a very good player, that steps up big time in games.

Bad lateral movement? Watch his tape I just don't see that.

On and off the field Robert Relf is everything you want. He will knock you stiff, runs like a deer, has good lateral movement that will only improve as he matures. Local schools missed the boat on him, I only hope he adjusts well to Florida. They got a gem in my opinion.

He should spend a year at GCC, get more local exposure and then go to ASU or UA when they see what he can do. It beats going to a school that sounds like some local budget airline, red shirting and then doing a Westerman after a year. That work for you Jason?

Not an FAU booster, but they did play Georgia, Alabama and Navy this year.

I don't either, just what I have heard from coaches.  It dumbfounds me why he doesn't have better offers.  Recruiting is weird sometimes.

FAU is a Div I FBS school in a conference that has schools that have competed well and even won against SEC, ACC etc teams of late . . . first year head coach apparently doing some good things and a schedule that has a few big games - congrats to Relf, who is absolutely underrated and overlooked by the local programs at a minimum, but who is now getting a free college education, getting to play in the top level of college football, and also gets the awesome experience to go live in a beautiful area of the country by the beach - pretty good stuff all around if you ask me!!

That's a dumb idea.  Why risk the chance of injury when he alredy has a Division One scholarship locked up?  Or, what happens if he doesn't play well there and ends up at Panhandle State?  I'm sure you're being sarcastic, but I think playing football near Miami would be a great thing that he should look forward to while not looking to gamble on a "trade up."

Easy everyone - a little tounge and cheek effort to keep an AZ kid that everyone says is undervalued in AZ. Thus the shout out to Jason and the reference to the school name. Relaaaaaxxxxxx

Yeah because he and all of the other AZ kids should bow down to the state schools and get on their time table. It is obvious both of the schools are well aware of what he can do and they feel he is not good enough like so many before him.

Funny FAU worked out pretty well for the best rookie RB in the NFL this year Alfred Morris.

FairAndBalanced1 wrote: 6'3" probably around 225lbs now and could easily carry 245lbs or more in college & still run a 4.5/4.6. He played mostly OLB & some Safety but I thought he was most effective when he lined up at DE & rushed the QB or dropped into coverage. He reminds me of DeMarcus Ware who was a little too skinny out of high school for the SEC, went to Troy and became a 1st round pick. ASU & the UofA are going to regret passing on this kid.
I believe you are correct with this statement.

Re: Question about Robert Relf? Is he under-valued?

If you're FAU, you don't just offer a guy from across the country unless you're impressed. Clearly the in-state schools missed a lay-up on this one. Relf has the ability, size, speed, etc. How can you question the athleticism of a guy who's 6'3 220 and runs 11.0 e 100M?

I guess schools in state are happy with LBs like Cody Ippolito, what an embarrassment.

Re: Question about Robert Relf? Is he under-valued?

UA & ASU missed big on plenty of in-state talent.  Rich-Rod and Graham both said they're gonna keep the talent here, but everyone saw them go after several less talented, promising prospects out of state.  They both went back to their old recruiting grounds and allowed multiple kids go to other programs.  And don't expect it to change anytime soon.  The only kids they really have any interest in recruiting, are the kids being wooed by real national powerhouses, after they have been target for awhile.  HUGE loss on Relf!
