I believe South Mountain will appeal to be placed in section 6 with Alhambra, Central, and Washington.

Casa Grande and Maricopa got the shaft here.  Casa Grande is closer to Phx than it is Tucson, only consolation is Maricopa.  Those two need to be squeezed in another section IMO.

RE: Initial Section Placement 2013-14

Unfortunately, it seems that the AIA was not willing to go 8 sections and instead shoehorned a couple of schools into sections in order to make 7 sections with a relatively equal number of teams.

I see Casa Grande and Maricopa appealing, but they will lose based on the fact that the AIA's initial placement shows that in D3 and D5 they want to keep things relatively equal in terms of number of schools.

Vista Grande in D2 is in the same boat, having been placed in Section 5 with S.AZ schools Salpointe, Tucson, and Ironwood Ridge.

Actually this section seems better for them, as the only high schools in Div III that they are closer too than these Tucson high schools are Queen Creek, Higley and Williams Field - and that section is stacked, and that section has other schools that are farther away from these northern or north of Tucson schools - this is the most logical section for them in the Division based on a combination of their location and others, and level of competition

Dude ,  Part of being a prognosticator is being right some of the times. I haven't seen any of your predictions  turn out yet. You are wasting a lot of your time .

Well, since you asked, let's refer to the sectionals page I have published and made publicly available since day one. In fact, I went and highlighted on the site the teams I missed to make it easier (and accountable) for people to read. Let me know if the lack of ads on the site or the simplified color scheme (black text on white background) is too distracting for you.

For D1, I missed three schools (North, Mesa, and Highland) out of 29.

For D2, I missed ONE school out of 44 (Vista Grande).

For D3/4/5, I missed a lot - and I admit it because I thought the AIA would allow for 8 sectionals instead of 7 (or in D4's case, never once thought they would drop to 5 sections). However, take away the "extra" sections, and in D3, I missed 4 teams (Sierra Linda, Casa Grande, Maricopa, and Sabino), D4 I missed 3 teams (Winslow, Chino Valley, Globe), and D5 I missed 5 teams (Tuba City, Greyhills, Valley Christian, Chandler Prep, and Northwest Christian).

For D6 I missed 2 (Rancho Solano Prep and Valley Lutheran) out of 32, but I caught two that the AIA missed and will probably amend their docs to include later (Cibecue, Glendale Prep). [EDIT: By "missed" I mean "left off the initial section placement" after these two schools went through the process of being placed in a division.]

Simplifying it for you:

D1: 26/29 (89.7%)
D2: 43/44 (97.7%)
D3: 38/48 (79.2%) - but with extra section removed from consideration, that's 38/42 (90.5%)
D4: 24/32 (75.0%) - again, extra section withdrawn that's 24/27 (88.9%)
D5: 38/49 (77.6%) - again, extra section withdrawn that's 38/43 (88.4%)
D6: 30/32 (93.8%) [EDIT: currently, it's actually 28/30 (93.3%), but when the missing schools are added back, it will be 30/32.]

But hey, let's just count the first column though; my predictions were right 3/4 or the time or better. In the upper divisions, and the lowest division, my predictions were right basically 9 out 10 times. If I'm a gambling man, I take those odds, especially against the "house" (aka. the AIA).

Also, while I named most of the teams that appealed to the Football or Placement Committees and lost, I do admit I went 9-for-16 (.563) on the Exec Board committee appeals. Then again, with the Exec Board, everything is a crap shoot, so I feel comfortable about being right more than half the time there.

So, the evidence in place proves two things -
1) My predictions not only have been turning out right more than just "some of the time", but are right, at MINIMUM, 3/4 of the time, and
2) You aren't paying attention.

But I appreciate you asking. cool

RE: Initial Section Placement 2013-14

But the other sections can be adjusted accordingly. This setup makes maricopa and Casa grande travel much further than needed. Ranchdkc setup seemed much more reasonable.

No one there would just be 7 teams in that section.

RE: Initial Section Placement 2013-14

Actually, there would be 8 teams in that section (section 7, not 6 - don't know why I said "6"). Currently in section 3 there's 8 teams and 7 teams in section 7. So by moving from S3 to S7, there's no real loss/gain in terms of unbalanced sectionals, but SM escapes the East Valley and fits more in line with the Central schools.

RE: Initial Section Placement 2013-14

Ohhhh, I get it, you were asking a "rhetorical" question hinting that something just isnt right here. Maybe if you do a little more research you will see that football is the ONLY sport with 6 divisions. Most of the the rest only have 3. You will also see that the Divisions are created by the AIA based upon student population. Of all of the schools in football Division 2 Chaparral ranks 12th in student population, so its not even top 10. Also, Chaparral hasnt petitioned up or down in any sport. They are playing right where AIA says they should.

So why the rhetorical question?
