AZFCA All State Team

Posted: 12/02/2012 2:57 PM

AZFCA All State Team

RB that is 32nd in the state in rushing on a decent team making Big 25 over a kid that had double the yards on a state championship team? Or over another kid that had nearly double the yards and 36 TDs? Or any of the other 31 kids that had better stats?

Or how about a LB that missed half the season due to injury for the second straight year and had VERY pedestrian stats when he did play making the Big 25?

Or my favorite the 1st team all D2 OL that never played OL all year?

The coaches that picked this team, the small group that they are, should be ashamed of themselves. This is why the majority of their peers want nothing to do with them. Once a year they feel important when the good ol' boys club meets so they can stroke their own egos and retaliate against their much more successful peers.

The Tucson schools are very well represented. What no west side coaches voting?

My biggest question is how did Kenny Lacy not make it?

Yeah, no Kenny Lacy? Not even for D1? Come on.

And the Pinnacle kid at LB over Curtis from Brophy? The two IWR kids played LB from all reports but are listed as DBs on this team. There are only 2 WRs listed for D2, D4 and D5 but 3 for D1 and D3. Elvira over Mark Andrews for all arizona? How can someone even say that outloud with a straight face? The Guida kid had almost 3,000 yards rushing and Benoit had 36 TDs in regular season but the WV kid is chosen? Again, how can that not be construed as anything other than a joke. The Mountain Pointe RB should have been on there before the WV kid no offense.

Guessing that the Westview coach and Marcos coach were front and center in the room for these selections.

Got Cox and Farria on there and neither played more than half of a season. Obviously reputation supersedes production.

Just ridiculous. These guys did a major injustice to this state.

I agree Farria shouldn't have been selected for the team. He missed 5 games or more due to injury and other reasons. He is a man amongst boys but didn't put together an entire season.

Hilgers over Drake. No offense to Hilgers but Drake had close to 1000 more yards and 15 more TDs. These coaches need to stop making this a popularity contest and start awarding these awards by merit. Shameful

A even bigger question how did the state record holder for receptions and 1000 yard receiver not make it. This kid was doubled team all year and does not even get mentioned what a joke this is a popularity contest list not worthy of anything.

Yet another case in point. Couldn't even get this kid's name or year right. Nice.

Someone told me they watched highlights of kids brought for consideration, is that true or even possible?

If a team/coach is not part of AzFCA and doesn't pay dues they don't have a vote or voice. So that could hurt a lot of team's players.

If thats the case then it's not a true all state team. Again it's not a networking or popularity contest. It's about who the best players are.

Re: AZFCA All State Team

This is not true. All kids are in the state are available for All-State teams and all HC are allowed to vote.

The only thing not being a member does is disqualify your player from the all star game and combine.

AZHSFB11 I thought that was mentioned last year in threads on here (regarding membership in AZFCA)? So how do you explain some of these stranger picks? Coaches don't vote?

It depends if they showed up? I'm not sure how the process works 100 percent. I know each section has a rep and and each div has a rep. So what happens once the reps meet is anyone's guess.

I do know all HC and players are available for All State, regardless of dues.

All I can say is I hope college recruiters and coaches, don't take the AZFCA All Arizona Team selection too seriously (if they look at them), and actually look at the stats to get the real picture.

It is shameful that the coaches are so biased and unrealistic.

First of all, if an athlete isn't nominated then it's impossible for them to make the team,  Coaches nominate their own athletes for spots on all-whatever teams (except for the Republic's teams, which are done by their own high school news team).  If the coaches don't nomniate then kdis aren't going to make it.  It's as simple as that.  Sometimes coaches WILL nominate other kids for these teams, but I don't think it happens too often.  Yes, politics play a role in many of these votes and sometimes the most deserving kids don't receive the honors they are due.  But, in the grand scheme of things, these all-whatever teams don't mean a whole lot, other than a certificate and a patch on a letter jacket.

Secondly, college coaches RARELY (I mean in a miniscule, as small as can possibly be imagined amount of situations) recruit from all-whatever teams.  Parents can't get their panties in a wad and think that colleges are going to shy away from their sons because they didn't make the AZFCA "All-State" team.

The running backs that should have been All Arizona were apparently nominated, they are on the All Division III team.  Care to explain that one?
