Are you kidding? Mill over Chavez.  I will say it's a huge upset only because it seemed both teams were going in completely different directions to think the Tigers would come back from a big blowout by the Pegasus earlier in the season and get this win. Congrats to the Tigers.

Re: Scores 11/2

Millennium picked off 4 Chavez passes and knocked QB Macias out of the game with a shoulder injury.  Champions only had 17 yards rushing (22 carries).

Re: Scores 11/2

Wow, Mill drives home the point that all those crazy coach speeches instill. It doesn't happen often, but any given night...any given night, a group can just decide to make it happen and go and get things done.  Just a bunch of violent, intense, crazy fun.  Go and get that gold ball...while it may have been a cliche all this week, seedings most definitely are out the window.  Wins, losses...pointless. Who is clicking, who is methodical, who is getting the breaks, finding the angles, happening upon the bounces, creating their own luck. Sabino going down by some wishy-washy border school like Nogales, who just might have decided seedings and formulas and opinions, well, maybe all of the drivel just doesn't matter. Line up, take a snap, and go and decide. Decide. Such a great. Great. Time of year.

Re: Scores 11/2

Also don't know if I would say the 2 teams were going completely different directions coming in.  Millennium won a game against Willow Canyon in Week 10 that was basically a playoff game with the winner getting in and the loser being on the bubble.  Cesar Chavez lost to a fast and athletic Marcos de Niza team for its first defeat of the season.  In hindsight, you can say the Tigers had some 'Mo going its way.

That said, did I think Millennium would pull off the upset?  Nope.

Wait, so I'm not the only one that knows that Chavez's actual nickname is (or was at one point) the Pegasus?

FWIW, the Pegasus would be the best nickname in the state if Chavez adhered to it.  Also FWIW, "the Champions" is the blandest, worst nickname in the state.

Ha, slipped it in there to see who would notice. Must have changed it after the stadium statues were built and helmet logos were ordered.

I just don't understand why you would change it from something as unique and just downright awesome as the Pegasus.  Wikipedia claims it's a reference to the school's namesake (as Cesar Chavez was a "champion of human rights"), which is nice but doesn't make the nickname any more bland or vague (you can be a "champion" of a lot of things and not all of them are good; for instance, TNasty might say I'm a "champion" of ass-clownery and I'm probably not holding my head up high about that one).

I imagine him standing in front of his computer, infuriated by a negative Centennial post screaming, "YOU SHALL NOT PASS!" in his full D&D getup.

Wow, some know WAY too much about D&D. If I am betting on anyone who can complete an argument and bring facts...well, no one on this thread makes the list if they are referencing D&D and not actual evidence. Even the kids realize knowledge over being some throwback bully from the movies. Strange is the time when we realize our credibility doesn't even make sense against some guy who actually looks at stats, film and tangibles. You can get that crap off your phone, not a gimmick.
Crazy stuff.

So, we're not allowed to joke around and have fun?  I'm not sure what you're getting at. I think anyone who's been posting on here for a while realize that Woody and I give each other a hard time on a fairly regular basis and that doesn't have a lot to do with being "credible."
