Head Coach Vacancies

Obviously very early but the word on the street is that the Maryvale job will be open

Someone posted on AZCentral chat board Friday that Boulder Creek was opening? Any info on that one?

(Not trying to start a rumor, but verify or shoot down, as the case may be, one that has been circulating.)

Not trying to start a rumor either but I can't imagine there will not be an opening at Catalina Foothills down here in Tucson.  They had a terrible season

Heard the Scurran rumor a while ago, don't believe it but he would turn them around.  Would have to change the culture first.  Folks say football takes a back seat to band and soccer there.  Not joking

I would hate to hear that. I think he is doing a great job with that program. They were playing with a Freshman QB!

Boulder Creek is not going to open. I talked to Friedman.

Thanks Jason. You beat me to it. I honestly don't know why such nonsense is started.  That program doesn't need to worry about getting transfers. It has the potential to keep its talent for the same reason others won't want to transfer to an "out of town" program

I think he is on thinner ice than some of you may think. For the talent that lives in Anthem, you cannot say that they over-achieve by any respect. There are a lot of unhappy people up there with his failure to embrace the youth community the way they believe a one-high-school community coach should.

So real cuervo, to educate you, it starts with the parents in the community. If enough seeds of discontent sprout and grow, the coach is shown the door. Surely, you knew that.

Really???  I'd say the BC HC embraces the community better than any coach i've ever met in AZ.  Really..  Im a parent, not coach, and be careful what you wish for..  Friedman is really a quality coach.

im sorry your kid didn't see as much time as you think he deserved.

NotWildButSaber wrote: What about Basha? Every year they get worse and worse. There defense is terrible, there offense is decent, and there head coach is just angry all the time. They need to get new blood in there.

Busken already has as many semifinal appearances (one) in just under three full seasons than McBurney did altogether at Basha, had that team as close to beating Hamilton as they've ever been this season, and did so while having one of the smallest enrollments in D-1 and playing a brutal schedule.  While Desert Vista's a tough draw in the first round I don't think it's an insurmountable one, and could definitely see the Bears as a "darkhorse" in D-1.  Let's let the playoffs play-out before we determine anyone who's still playing as "getting worse and worse".

As far as his demeanor goes, that's neither here nor there until he starts to cross the line towards abusive behavior.  This might be hard to believe for someone born during the Clinton administration but there was a time in this country where things weren't always so happy-go-lucky.

RE: Head Coach Vacancies

Many head coaching positions in this valley are coaching graveyards.

Unless a coach has some kind of "missionary spirit", I have no clue why they'd take some of those jobs.  Has there ever been a situation where a season started and a school had no head coach hired?

I see that scenario soon approaching.

I am not sure. I think they can usually find an assistant on campus that they can talk into it if they aren't able to fill the spot with a more qualified position. But I definitley think you are going to see more and more younger coaches get some opportunites at some of these "graveyards" Which i think will have a positive and negative. i think it might breathe in some new young life into some programs, however now these young assistants who usually spend years under established verterns and learn the right way to run a program may be forced to run things before they are ready.

Am I at least #3?  Perhaps my recent string of more level-headed posts has earned me a bit more sway with you, or perhaps I was long ago moved to a sort of "Hall of Fame" category because you could never distaste me any more than you do me.

Re: Head Coach Vacancies

Tnasty-
You are most welcome. But I have to ask, what exactly was wrong with this post? I know that we have disagreed in the past and you have taken some of my posts personally, but c'mon this is supposed to be give-and-take. You've taken some shots in your posts. It's all part of the fun about being on an anonymous board anyway. (Thicker skin also helps prevent the damaging rays of the hot Arizona sun.)

While I don't agree with NDR (or his brother or Woody or anyone else for that matter) all the time, there is nothing wrong with sharing information and rumors. Sometimes the rumors prove to be true even over poster's claims to the contrary.

Real Cuevo-
You are welcome for the lesson, my friend. No charge. Feel free to let me know if there is anything else you don't understand. The education of the uninformed public is part of the free service I am required to provide as part of my parole.

Best of luck to your teams on Friday.
