I'm curious with that as well 23. 22 is this the official depth chart for the Tennessee game? I'm curious if jalen really is starting over Stewart as well? I've read (des news) that he (jalen) is the backup to stewart

At the luncheon today Wells said that Davis would be starting at Tennessee. I assumed he would be starting over Grey, not Stewart.

Re: USU Football Depth Chart for Tennessee Game

OK guys, here is the dilemma. I would have believed the same thing you all are. And by all accounts that I have seen during my time (I missed 1, 1 hour practice) spent at fall camp, I would have listed Jalen Davis ahead of Danny Gray as well. However in Coach Wells press conference yesterday afternoon he said that Gray would be getting his first start at Tennessee. He then stated 1/2 an hour later that Jalen Davis would be getting the nod as a starter as well. Perhaps he misspoke or perhaps this is kind of a smoke screen but I was as surprised as any of you.

On Daniel Gray, a transfer from Tennessee:

“He’s played really well in camp. It will be his first start as a Utah State Aggie. I’m sure there will be mixed emotions for him going in. He needs to be able to control those and play each snap and move on and have success. He better have a short mentality at cornerback in any game. I’m sure he’ll have some mixed emotions, but he’s played well the last couple weeks of training camp. He’s known since the minute he walked in here that this was the opening game.”

Re: USU Football Depth Chart for Tennessee Game

Brian,

Its me Hickaggie.

Could it be that Jalen is going to get the start at nickel and that Centers won't come up and stay at SS?  He must really stand out to beat out this group.    I mean I never heard any hint that Stewart didn't have the boundary corner locked down.

I haven't seen a day of practice so I don't know but unless Stewart is in the doghouse I see this as an indication that this secondary is deep and talented, although a guy who was lightly recruited and faced off against HS receivers in his last game is someone nerve racking to have on the island at Neyland with those receivers.  He must really be showing off and confident.

Re: USU Football Depth Chart for Tennessee Game

First thank you for joining the forum and posting. Welcome aboard Hick!!

Devin will absolutely be the starter at SS. He has forced the coaches to put him on the field by making big play after big play all camp long. Once the opposing team brings on a third WR and USU moves to it's nickel package, Centers will move to the nickel spot and Frankie Sutera will take the SS spot.

As for Jalen Davis, everything that I had seen would have led me to believe that Rashard Stewart would be the starter at one corner and it was a battle between Davis and Danny Gray for the other. So like I said previously unless Coach Wells simply misspoke when speaking about either Gray or Davis, he is on the record stating that Gray and Davis are the guys. I was told by Coach Wells that Jalen Davis has really surprised everyone, and that when the coaching staff recruits a kid, they know he will be able to contribute eventually, they just don't know who will be able to contribute the very first day of camp as a true freshman like Jalen Davis has.

I guess it sounds like that their really hasn't been a designation between the 3 where they are trying to separate boundary and field then.   I wonder how that will play out between Gray and Jalen?  No matter they'll both get plenty of island work with this D.

Is Anthony Williams LB going to play?  He's listed as a 2nd teamer on this chart but I don't see him on the official depth chart.

No. As of Monday Coach Wells was not able to "officially" comment on David Moala because he hadn't been accepted to USU yet. You will not see him on the field at Tennessee on Sunday.

Anthony Williams will play. How much other than special teams will remain to be seen? From everything I have been able to see, he was running 2nd team behind Kyler Fackrell all of fall camp. As you can probably imagine there is not a lot of playing time available when you are listed behind Fackrell. I know that the "official" depth chart lists a few things differently than mine. I have compiled my depth chart according to the nearly 30 plus hours that I spent this August carefully watching every second of every practice but one.
