I can't beleive that they would hold a special meeting to discuss the football coaches salary.  To me is smacks of insecurity.

He likes being a big fish in little pond and doesn't want to follow the unsuccessful foot steps of other donk coaches that left. He's going nowhere unless he suddenly grows a pair.

You have got to be kidding me. Raising his base salary by $375,000 to a total of 2 mil. Wow.

TCP and his agent have played the bSu Administration, the SBOE and the donk fanbase beautifully the last 3 years.  Their tactics boarder on extortion.  Obviously, TCP likes the COU and doesn't want to leave.  Perhaps ther SBOE will grow a pair and call the bluff, but, they'll simply rubber stamp it.

Well, if he is ever going to leave, now would be the time to do it. Most of that team are seniors: all but 2 on defense, the QB and their best receiver, 2 from the O-line...

PSU fans would definitely like TCP but there is some skepticism about him due to his predecessors. It would be the ideal job for him but I don't think he is interested. Would be hard to turn down $3-4 million per year.

I have been a fan of Penn St since I was a kid and would rather have Roman from the 49ers. Who ever gets it has a turn key operation.

Re: TCP pursued again (still)

I don't understand these comments.  WSU just hired a coach at more than 2 million a year, and when one looks at what Pete did for the BSU program, he is in that kind of league.  It's a no-brainer in the world of real politic.

If someone were hired here and put us in the top 10 for several years and basically grew the program from nothing, he should earn a wage competitive with the top 20 coaches.  Pete has built the program up to where it can pay his salary.  He deserves it.

Tammy is right, and the money comes from donors, not the State. He is worth every penny.

Wait, so they get an emergency meeting when they want to redo Petey's contract but when we try to extend Akey's contract didn't they make us wait until the second regularly scheduled meeting?

I wonder how the faculty at the U of I would react if we paid a coach $2,000,000 a year? I do not think it would go over well.

Just a small point here...I don't believe his salary is paid by "donors".  It comes (if I understand this right) from athletic dept. revenue, not state appropriated funds for athletics.  So basically those unbelievably high ticket prices and parking passes.  Oh, and hot dog guys frankfurter.

I doubt the faculty at BSU like it very much but I also doubt that Kustra, Petersen et al give a dang about what they think. I doubt that most FBS schools care what their faculty thinks. They may wring their hands and feign caring but it's probably crocodile tears.

He may well be the best best college coach in the nation.  Whether he's worth every penny depends on your priorities.

For the Huckster, Boise State,  and the vast majority of their fans who have no connection with the University other than through the football program - this makes all the sense in the world.

For the 75% who don't graduate in 6 years - a few might having a differing opinion.

Most people say it's not about money with tCP. The JC administration clearly thinks differently since every time his name comes up they fall over themselves throwing more money at him. Clearly, they believe money is what will keep him here.

I disagree.  Giving him pay raises (which more often than not are passed along to the coaching staff) indicate incentive for his performance.  No one is foolish enough to think it is money keeping Pete in Boise, when other programs are reportedly tossing 4+ million his direction.   And it's not like Westwood and State College are horrible places to live (or coach) either.

Hmmmm....I know there are some accountants on the board.  How would the IRS feel about Pete getting a raise then "passing" that on to his assistants?  C'mon, this is incentive to STAY in Boise, nothing more, nothing less.
