Change in Recruiting Rules Will Make a Bad Situation Worse

Did everybody see Sip's article on the loosening up of the coach contact rules?

Link

IMHO, this is The Worst Thing college football has done in a long time.  With corruption already rampant in the south at it is, unlimited contact simply throws more gasoline on the fire.

It only shows what an idiotic organization the NCAA is. They are supposed to act on behalf of the student athletes. Lol. Now these kids are not only having all the recruiting sites calling them every day, but have dedicated recruiting staffs texting, calling and writing them every second.

Brilliant and we wonder why some kids become primadonnas/attention whores during the recruiting process. THis will only get better. banghead

I really don't think their is a more useless and incompetent organization out there, seriously.

A good example of this would be during the primaries and general election. My phone and many others I talked to rang off the hook leading up to November.I got so sick of it I turned the ringer off during the last week.I can just see these kids and their parents getting sick of it real fast.ohlord

I guess we should hire a couple full time recruiters like the schools from the south, correct?  If we cannot beat these guys you have got to do more to compete with them.  Sure, I don't agree with these rule changes but that doesn't mean that we should put our noses up at them.

I think "enforceability" of the old rules was a big part of the rule change. No one thinks it is a great idea to go down this road - but the NCAA wants to level the playing field for everyone (and not keep letting the cheaters have an advantage).

Bo said he is most worried about kids not focusing on school and football due to all the increased contacts. I agree with him.

I do not like this at all.  It stretches the kids and even the coaching staff.  Are they now going to feel like they need to make time to text 20 different kids every day?  Especially during the season when they already feel the pressure and stress of dealing with game preparation and all their other duties.

I'm trying to find a silver lining and the only thing I can come up with is Bo and company have a certain expectation and work ethic they want in a recruit.  Some of these recruits don't fit in well here anyway.  Generally the ones that are "all about themselves".  I'm hoping that those types of recruits are the ones that need to be texted 40 times a day and arn't our primary targets.

If you don't 'keep up with the Jones' on the recruiting front, you take a huge risk.  Face it, everybody likes a little attention.  We all want to feel special, particularly if you are a 17 year old kid.  If you hear a lot from some schools but not others, it's bound to impact your thinking.

This rule change COULD help Nebraska minimize its location disadvantage if the staff really ratcheted up our early recruiting of propspects.  But I doubt it will happen.   In general, we don't have coaches who adored aggressive recruiting even under the old rules, let alone the new ones.

Unfortunately I agree.  You would think that a school like NU would do everything it can to offset the disadvantages it has with location by doing anything to get the attention of the recruits it is targeting.  NU has the facilities but simply doesn't do as much as they could in order to get the top notch kids here.
