Bo's recruiting presser ...

Is it just my imagination or was it, a bit different Bo we saw yesterday at the recruiting press conference?

He seemed more relaxed.....less cantankerous......and he even admitted he could have made a mistake... eek ........in not playing young guys sooner?

Is this another side of Bo we haven't seen much?   ....I like it !

I think he is actually growing in the position. Nobody becomes a great head coach right away. I hope it translates into on the field success.

FWIW, I tend to agree with you.  Bo doesn't live in a vacuum.  He knows the natives are restless and he and his young staff have clearly played conservatively with regard to personnel and possibly during games.

If I were a coach, I would never punt the ball, always go for it on 4th down.  I would onside kick every kick off and I would make any offensive player who fumbles the football sit out the remainder of the game and run steps every practice the following week.

RE: Bo's recruiting presser ...

During the coverage of our Bowl game the announcing team had talked to the Nebraska coaches - in those sessions Bo indicated he felt his decisions with regard to the Dline in particular did not pan out - he would have done in differently. That was not the same Bo we have seen the prior 4 years.

The fact Bo is able to articulate some self reflection and change to how he plans to approach things is a good sign. I still think we end up redshirting most of the recruits, but a few will get a shot to play. And it sounds like Bo may wait to make the decision in some cases (a few games into the season??)

Works on EA Sports - does not work in big boy football.

Actually, it works in high school football and the stats this coach uses are from college football.  This coach has won state football championships.  So your EA Sports comment is just false.  However, if you read the article you will see that as time went on and other teams began to adjust to this he began to modify his strategy.  I believe the whole point of this is that coaches get into habits in situations of doing things they think are SAFE even if the statistical evidence doesn't support it.

I want to give him full credit but in the back of my head I can't help but wonder if having a new boss may be part of the equation.  Pure speculation on my part but I wonder if maybe the new AD had some mentoring sessions with him regarding public perception.

Great question... maybe the lessons from TO are starting to gain traction.  excited

It is very refreshing though.
