Big 12 recruiting

Ugly for them. Top team was Oklahoma at #18. Another sign for this conference?

Texas has quality - not quantity. And they are waiting on a few kids to decide after signing day. Could end up jumping OU. Otherwise I would say it was below the curve for the Big 12.

Dang!  I wish I'd known it was so poor. I'd have tuned into Keitzman. However, I'm sure he's demagoguing the KSU signing class into at least three successive national championships with the only reason for not getting a fourth due only to playing in the the nation's most talented conference.

Re: Big 12 recruiting

The conference is on a downward trend. There just aren't enough name brand programs in it anymore.

I think recruits want to go places where they can play the big names in big games at least 4-5 times a year. The Big 12 only has two. Texas and Oklahoma.

But to be fair to Texas this year. If they had roon to sign 25, they likely end up with a top 5 class. Outside of them though, recruiting had to be a disappointment. The SEC's move into Texas is probably put a bigger dent than the Big 12 thought as well.

UT wanted just one brand a few years ago, now the conference is having a tough time finding anything to call a "Brand".

I agree with the SEC movement into Texas. A & M has definitely brought awareness to the rest of Texas that there is a better option.

Heck, even tOSU got 3 or 4 out of Texas this year.

I want to die peacefully in my sleep like Grandpa, not panic stricken and screaming like everyone else in the car.

Doesn't matter what Texas signs...they will underachieve.  When all of "the greatest talent pool anywhere" and "we get 'em when they're juniors" and all that other garbage comes together and doesn't result in regular titles or appearances in the title game or at least regular top 3 finishes...it's an underachievement.  Period.  End of story.

+1  Too many ego's in Texas and on the team.  They don't put together teams.  They put together groups of individuals and there aren't enough balls to go around.

My thoughts were that A&M is now in the SEC and that had a big pull plus Manzel. I think that coach from there has it going on!!!

Re: Big 12 recruiting

I have looked at the way Mack Brown recruits and find it kinda lazy.  Offer what is viewed as the top kids during their junior years, get a bunch of commits and sit back and rake them in.  I do think that they bring in great talent but unless they strike lightning in a bottle and get a Vince Young type player, they will continue to be average at best.  As for the rest of the conference, I wasn't very impressed with the OU class.  That is pretty surprising as they have been getting it done under Stoops.  The rest of the conference is pretty bland as there really isn't a name brand type of school left in the bunch.  Not that losing Colorado or Missouri is a serious gut punch but NU and A&M certainly are.  They aren't the Big East but the glitter is fading pretty quickly with those guys.
