Yes, that bombshell came out in the first two minutes of his presser. No questions yet from the media which I find perplexing.

But didn't he already quit once before?  Sounds like the problem is with the kid, not the program.

Bombshell only in the sense that I wasn't expecting it. Yes he left once before but I haven't heard of any issues since his return. I still can't believe the media hasn't asked for any explanation.

I would be afraid that Bo would jump down my throat if I asked that question.

Time for the young guys to step up and take control. We need to put all our chips in this year and turn the animals loose. We have a good schedule and it will help us get to the CCG like we want. Get these guys the experience they need and WIN THE B1G!!!

Only problem is ....we need all the experienced DL men we can get and Rome was contributing pretty well at the end of last season.

But onward we go...with or without him.

The DL will really be a rookie bunch next season.

Who knows...lots of new blood can jump start the defense.

I bet if he comes back again, he'll be considered awesome again.

Anyone else figure out the pattern of how this works?

Given his motor, thinking he would be better suited for a scheme where he is turned loose.
Let's take those N's and put them right underneath their chins!

Our Iowa friends gave us some insights on Kaczenski.  Is that a factor?

Isn't this what we hear every time someone transfers.  I don't know, but kind of tired of hearing it is always the kids fault when 99.9% of us have no clue what happened.

Interesting.....seems like everyone is always posting how it is the coaches fault.  That gets tiring to me.

i don't remember too many people calling him "awesome" after his return.  I recall people saying we needed him because we were thin at DLine....but not awesome.

I also laugh a little when people panic due to experienced players leaving.  If the experienced player isn't the talent level we need/want at a position, I'm actually ok when they decide to finish their career elsewhere.  My guess is he knows the younger guys would quickly overtake his experience, and he'd be without any playing time.

I don't blame either since I don't know but no way do most fans generally blame the staff.

I don't how you say "everyone is posting how it is the coaches fault" when my comment was directed to someone saying "the problem is with the kid, not the program".  Kind of blows up your point doesn't it?

Like you said, it's "your guess". My guess is he's got a family to feed back in Missouri and needs to go home and get a job. Makes about as much sense as your guess.

Let's have a contest to see who can have the best uneducated, and uninformed guess as to why Chase Rome is no longer a Nebraska Cornhusker.

Yeah I don't remember anyone calling him awesome when he returned.  I'm not panicked but I also don't think this is anything to be happy about either.  I'm not sure your guess is bounded in reality. Based on what I've seen we are pretty bad on the DL.  If we had good or great talent behind Rome well then why didn't they see the field last year?  I'm not brimming with confidence that guys who have seen virtually no action last year are going to come in and be better then what we got last year (and that wasn't good).

Our DL was probably a C- on paper going into next year and with Rome's departure probably dropped a bit. Do we have talent?  I'm hoping so but until I see what they can do that's just a guess.  They may have talent or at least more than they are showing but it could be the scheme stinks.  My opinion is that poor coaching has a lot to do with the poor results of our DL the last two years.

One way or another there are lots of questions about the DL going into next year.  I'm hoping the talent and coaching show up.

Rome couldn't talk Bo into playing that formation where he's the only guy on the field.

GBR!!!

No it's not. It's the one sport that's most unlike a box of chocolates. You can predict success based on fan support and coaching.

Lloyd I understand how coaching can affect success, but how would fan support?  coCane U won a Nation title or two playing in an empty stadium.

As for Rome going home to take care of a family, not heard word one about that here.

Re: Chase Rome gone?

Rome is an aggressive DT .  Rome came thinking he could follow Suh.  But the defense changed because the people around him changed.  Rome had to play more structured.  Rome will transfer to a lower level and Dominate.  Look for him in next year's draft.  Would have been anyway but his stats would not have been as good.
