Ole MIss
Ok, someone clue me in. Why the heck are they signing 4 and 5 stars left and right? Freeze went 7-6 in his first season. Not bad, considering the dump he inherited by Nutt, but hardly a reason to go to Oxford over the SEC elite.
Freeze was never an NFL guy so he can't sell this. Oxford is probably a fun place (never been there) but not moreso than other places with more successful teams. The easy answer would be $ since we are talking about the SEC here. Any other reasonable explanations that I fail to see?
And btw, I like our class very much. Adresses almost all the need we have on our roster sans an imediate impact DT. Good work by the coaches, imo.

Re: Ole MIss
I've been wondering the same thing however, maybe they're just good recruiters? It is possible.

Hugh Freeze is a rising star.
He'll be making a big jump in the next few years, IMO.
Wouldn't be all that surprised if he's the next head coach at Texas.

Heard him say on ESPN that some of those kids had best friends and/or a brother on the team. I don't follow recruiting, but I caught The coach's comments about an hour ago on ESPN radio.

RE: Ole MIss
Not a flame or anything, and full disclosure very very good friend of mine lives in LNK and I pull for you guys! and yes I am an Ole Miss fan.
But yes the #1 DE brother is a freshman all SEC LB on the team, and their parents wanted them on the same team. The #1 WR has a former teammate who was a freshman last year and are best friends so had a connection there. And the kid from Batesville is just 30 min up the road and his HS has been a major pipeline to ole miss in past. Now Tunsil and Golson the 2 OL according to them, loved the campus and the coaches. And forgot about Hooks the #1 JUCO, these coaches have good ties to these JUCO coaches, and we had a bad need for a JUCO DT, and offered plenty of playing time.
And so it was basically a perfect storm of events that helped to land these players. and coaches have said as much.
Also, you guys loaded up as well. You got your future QB, and that Newby kid is a big time RB. Also, got some HUGE OL, and DL. I'm hoping maybe my Rebels can improve enough and our teams can meet in a bowl game in the future.
And last thing, please beat the holy crap out of southern miss next year!!
Have a great and blessed day!

Have a great and blessed day! Yeah, most of the talking heads have been saying the same thing about the unique set of circumstances which allowed for it to happen. And then when one of those circumstances just happens to be the #1 player in the country, it is hard not to parlay it into something special. I'd even be willing to bet that if our staff somehow managed to get him early on, we'd have 3-4 more studs on our list due to his hype alone. But props do have to go to the Ole Miss staff. They had a plan and according to several recruits, they showed the most determination and love to them start to finish. The brother/friends connections they set up reminds me of what our staff did to lure Aaron Green. It was very smart for Ole Miss to offer those connections.

Have a great and blessed day! C'mon, dude. You got to let us Big ten fans cry like lil girls! Nebraska is fitting right in with Michigan fans, who are an embarrassment when it comes to whining about SEC recruiting.

RE: Ole MIss
I really don't get the obsession with the SEC around here.
We have plenty of things to worry about and fix before what they are doing even matters.

Have a great and blessed day! Give me a freaking break. They're peddling these freakin stories so hard to keep the dogs at bay,,, and I'm not talkin bout MissSt. It's like cheatin at somethin and realizing you over did it and are drawing undue attention, ala Lance Armstrong. You must think we're as slow as the yocals that grajeeated from Mississippi public schools. If Auburn and Alabama, or LSU offered any of these kids what kinda money did they have to turn down to go to Ole' Miss? Scam Newton went for what was it $182K? Much more plausible is that Ole' Miss matched or out bid their competitors. LaQuon????

Re: Ole MIss
Remember the old Devaney quote?
"I don't expect to win enough games to be put on NCAA probation. I just want to win enough to warrant an investigation."
The SEC is winning in a lot of areas. Everyone is noticing and there are reporters out there that would LOVE to be the one who can crucify some SEC team for out of control cheating. You better believe there are reporters turning over rocks to find the evidence.
If the cheating is as bad as everyone believes, the truth will come out eventually. No player is going to talk while he still has eligibility because he doesn't want to put himself at risk. No staff would ever admit to it. but someone will eventually go on the record or the documents will be found. Until then, there isn't much point in pointing at the winners and shouting "Cheaters!".
