1a. Notre Dame (I don't like them, but they would have an incredible financial impact on the league)
1b. Florida State

2. Kansas
3. Georgia Tech
4. North Carolina

Of course.....Notre Dame. That should be everyone's #1 no matter how much you hate them. Then you get the opportunity to put a beating on them.

Uggghhh.....I hate these big conferences. You don't really feel like brothers when their are 16 of you.

I hate the big conferences, too.  Twelve is as many as there should be, but ten is even better.  Too bad that's long gone.

Notre Dame, without question.  But, since that isn't going to happen, Florida State.  I like Kansas, but the B1G needs another good football school more than it needs another good basketball school.  Now, if you want one that has both good football and good basketball, I'd pick Louisville.  Doesn't do much for recruiting, probably, but both major sports would be enhanced with Louisville's entrance into the B1G.

That is why I choose UNC. They got a good coach in Fedora, and they would have won their division last year if they weren't on suspention from before. They are an AAU member and have good academics and we all know they have a good basketball team. It also opens up a large area for recruiting. I think it would be a good fit, and Delaney is a UNC grad and played basketball under Dean Smith, and probably won't stop until they join.

Plus the big ten network can show clips of Michael Jordan in college & claim their titles as their own.

bwahaharoll.gifThat's hilarious. That sounds like something the SEC would do.

My picks would be:

1)  Florida State    (More of a possibility than many know, but BIG 12 in play)
2)  North Carolina  (Competitive in football, probably won't come without Duke)
3)  Virginia           (Most serious possibility)
4)  Kansas           (If picked, would be for AAU membership and basketball)
5)  Syracuse        (Sleeper pick with more East Coast presence)

ND could rot as far as I am concerned and I am Catholic.  I suppose I will have to say some prayers after that comment.

The B1G does it with Nebraska football.  You see Nebraska, Tom Osborne, etc., featured in B1G commercials.

Notre Dame and Texas. Add them to the West Division with Nebraska and Wisconsin, with Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State and Michigan State on the other side, there would be no doubt that it could compete with the SEC and it just might drag ESPN off it's sack licking south kick.

domerlandred wrote: Other than Notre Dame which will never happen, Louisville would be a good fit athletically if everyone can get used to a city-named school. They can never be overlooked in football as Florida found out and their basketball program is in the top 10. But I doubt they would bring significent ratings or whether they would be a good scholastic fit.

I heard on sports nightly that if UNC and maybe another ACC team joins the B1G that could put some heat on N.D. joining up. Duke is not a option but what I kept hearing Georgia Tech might be one of the others.

I think NC and GA Tech are getting the B1G love right now - but Virginia has a good shot also. Syracuse is Plan C.

I don't think Fl State will come - easier to beg the SEC for a spot.

3)  Virginia           (Most serious possibility) AGREE
4)  Kansas           (If picked, would be for AAU membership and basketball)
5)  Syracuse        NEVER NOT EVER WHY DO PEOPLE EVEN CONTEMPLATE ANOTHER NY SCHOOL IN THE BOONIES???(Sleeper pick with more East Coast presence)

ND could rot as far as I am concerned and I am Catholic (So you understand the money angle)I suppose I will have to say some prayers after that comment.
Look, the play is one or two more ACC teams (UNC/Virginia/Duke/Georgia Tech)--and then it's ND or no one else.

The Big Ten and Notre Dame (IMO ONLY) are STILL flirting, always have been and always will be, and it's going to be a Notre Dame wooing party with any further expansion if the expansion happens as soon as some think it will.

here is a list of schools that will NEVER NOT EVER NEVER NEVER EVER happen:

Louisville
West Virginia
Connecticut
Vanderbilt
Cincinnati
Iowa State
Kansas State
Oklahoma
ANY BASKETBALL ONLY SCHOOL (put Syracuse in there)

List of SLEEPERS

Missouri--#1 if all others fall through and the Big Ten still decides to expand
Pitt---#1A if all others fall through and the Big Ten still decides to expand
Kansas--real good choice IF ALL OTHERS FALL THROUGH and the Big ten is desperate

Boston College--Alot of us Big Ten lifers would love this choice for a lot of reasons (most of which I do not know).

RE: One Team you would want to add to B1G

1)  Notre Dame  (Only in total upheaval will this happen, and right now there are significant conservative forces that will try to slow expansion.  These forces saved the Big 12.

2)  Virginia  (They value the academics and Northern "culture shock might be less than NC.)

3)  UNC or Duke, but I expect the overwhelming mass of the ACC to hold.   The Big 12 is too far and the SEC and the Big 10 are at 14 already.  They are not as rash or uncalculating as they are accused off by some bloggers.

If we get Virginia and are not getting UNC or Duke (likely, IMHO) then we need "a mate."

Uconn.  Let's forget the AAU-they are a good and improving school and they would value an Big 10 membership (Have you seen some of the chatter on the ACC boards?).    Let's not let ego blind us to value and a good long-term relationship.
