What grade would you give coach Davie?
I say a solid "B". We all knew what he came in and took over here after the dark years of Mike Loxley. We were 4-3 at one point this season before Holbrook went down and our passing game became non-existent. Throttling NMSU in their own little stadium was the high point of this year, especially since they all boldly predicted an easy victory over us and even proudly displayed "IT'S TIME" in their end zone. 1-10 later, Aggie fb is the same as it's always been, lol.
Losing the last 6 games of the year was a disappointment, as all of those except the debacle in Vegas, were right there for us to win until the very end.
Davie has instilled a new toughness and work-ethic here at UNM. I like the way the future looks indeed.

I dont see how Davie can get anything but an A. He inherited dog sh*t and won 4 games. I think the disappointment is that we lost 6 games in a row. If we had only won 4 games but spread them out and not started 4-3 i think you'd be more willing to give that A.
To win 4 games with a horrible 3-33 team, new offense, Defense, depleted Roster and QB injuries and discipline problems is truly an A effort IMO.
The real grade Davie would tell you is IC. |

I would agree to an "A" grade if this team would have won one of those last few games instead of finding ways to lose. Beating CSU like we had every chance to at the end yesterday would have definately given him an A.

I have to give him a solid B+. Winning a few the second half of the season would
have pushed into the A category. I like the direction we are heading.

I have to say an A. At the beginning of the season, I said I would be very happy if we: 1) played hard & didn't quit - check; 2) actually blocked & tackled - check; 3) looked like a football team, discipline - check; and 4) no off the field drama/trauma - check. I didn't expect to win a game just give - me the above. Well I got all that + 4 wins & being competitive in all but 3 games - WOW! He did this with a yours, mine & ours team (players from Rocky, Locksley & Davie) which is an unbelievable job of coaching all in itself. I'm very happy with the direction we are going & expecting anything more this season (if we remember where we were when it started) would be unrealistic + just plain greedy.

A definite B. The offense was way to predictable the last half of the season. Even a few trick plays would have been great. |

Ditto, great summary 69! First of all, considering our past record over the last 3 years, lack of a competitive roster by just sheer numbers, poor fan support, etc., I think few coaches would even be interested in this job. That being said, Coach was interested in us and I am so grateful! Considering Coach almost missed a recruiting season, having an exodus of players leave or self-destruct, lose key QB's and other players on a weekly basis-WOW! I've never seen this happen to Lobo football, and I've been around since 1968 or so. Although I know little about coaching, and am not a qualified critic by any means, I'd offer an A+ to Coach Davie. I think he is an outstanding person, and is influencing young mens lives in such a overwhelmingly positive manner. Obviously, we are fortunate to have him as our Lobo coach. I wish him huge success in this upcoming recruiting class-it will have an enormous effect on our success going forward. 69alum wrote: I have to say an A. I give Davie a C yes the team did improve overall. But the team did not improve enough within a weak conference. They still finished last within the conference where I predicted them to win at least 2 maybe 3 games yet they stayed the same Winning only 1 game in the conference despite the close losses. Davie has lots of work ahead of him. I just hope he can turn this program around quick enough before fans lose patience. Everything is about what have you some for me lately in sports. Look at all the coach firings. Coaches with strong winning records getting fired cause fans want more and AD's putting unnecessary pressure on coaches to win immediately.

Would certainly have liked to win a few more games this year, but he has taken a sinking ship and pulled it out of the depths of despair. We have a program and players that we can be proud of and it's only going to get better as we move through the coming years. |

B+. I am a tough grader though. A bowl game would have earned him an A+, 6 wins would have gotten him an A, 5 wins an A-. Next year i will use the same criteria since we lose a ton of seniors.

I'm going to be a bit conservative and give him a B- but I think our plan worked only as good as it could have gone and I'm happy with the teams general performance.
Deductions for some less creative play calling at the end of the season and just a few too many big plays, considering the players available on the roster of course.
We drove that bus till the wheels fell off. I'm glad the games were so close.
Onward and upward.

What Coach Davie did with this team and with what is had is just short of a miracle. I defy anyone on this board to identify a coach in Division I football that did more with less than what Coach Davie had.
Also, what coach did a better job of coaching and getting the most out of his team and squeezing every last ounce his team had?
