Relax parking rules... I just don't get it...

Relax parking rules... I just don't get it...

So let me see if I get this right... I paid the 10.00 to park Saturday... I know we are trying to do whatever we can to get people into the stadium... And to be honest a 10.00 bill to start makes it tough... Especially for a team that isn't a superstar quality team yet at this point...

Okay no problem you pay the 10.00 or 5.00 that's the way it goes...

Then I see in the paper tonight that for the game vs. Davidson parking is free noidea
Like what in the world is up with that? People sometimes fill up The Pit, there is no problem...

Make those people pay to park... It isn't like they won't shell out the cash.

I don't understand it... The few people that are still going to Lobo football games we are going soak them. For the people thinking about going to games, we will soak them...

But for the people we KNOW will be going to The Pit they give a free ride?

I don't get it...

I think they are afraid we will have a small crowd for a midnight game - and we don't want to show the Pit half full on ESPN.

Re: Relax parking rules... I just don't get it...

I don't really know how you can compare the two.  A midnight start time on a Monday versus a 1:30 afternoon start time on a Saturday.  It's apples and oranges...there is no link or comparison that can be made here.

Start a football game at midnight on a Monday and my guess is that parking will be free as well.  Move the basketball game to 1:30 on Saturday and you would still have to pay.

Smart move by UNM in my opinion.

It's a conspiracy, Lee Roy.

I mean, it's not as though UNM is worried about people not showing up for a game on Monday night at midnight... biggrin

Also - free parking for a basketball game is an incentive and will help increase the attendance..  I don't think free parking at a football game would help much.

I agree with all the logic of the critiques of Bandito but I also see his point - it just shouldn't be made in a B-ball v. Football context.  With dwindling attendance as the football season winds down, they could have helped incentivezed the attendance by making it a special promotion to allow free parking - maybe they will take the hint as part of Senior Day next Saturday.

Well there is no doubt that parking should be $5.00 across the board for football.  But to compare the two events is a very large stretch.

Re: Relax parking rules... I just don't get it...

UNM is waiving parking for men's basketball once, guys.
For an extraordinary circumstance. There won't be another game like this all year.

Yes. Maybe UNM should waive parking on Senior Day as a thanks to fans. That's a great idea, in fact.

But clearly UNM is doing all it can to get people out tonight and it's not for no good reason.
First regular season game on ESPN in over 10 years. National audience.

If UNM had done nothing extra to promote the game, then people would have griped about that.  noidea

Oh I have no problem with people going to The Pit having to pay 10.00 to park. They WILL do it! Most already have when they bought a parking pass...

let's be honest The Pit is about what 85% season tickets? Those people for the most part already have their parking passes with their donation to Lobo Club and tickets right?

So really where is the need to give incentive for people to go? They are already locked in! Add in this might be one of the best basketball teams to come to The Pit this year, so those that cherry pick games will swoop down on this one as well...

BTW- Unless things have changed Spana ticket prices, parking prices, and all go into the general athletic fund. So monies made at football and basketball go to all UNM sports... Otherwise the Olympic sports wouldn't survive...

If it were ticket prices that drove improvements the baseball field would have never been fixed up.

Where did he say he wanted free parking for football? Just wondering why the free parking for the BB game. You should be the first to complain as you always to because of all the revenue they will be losing for the free parking since you always bioth like a little girl about the $36 youth tickets that only make up less the 1% of the tickets sold. But if you are going to continue to do so at least get it right as youth season tickets are $48.

If paying $10 for parking is making or breaking a decision to go then we are in serious trouble with the fan base.

Dude people complain about everything around here... Yes 10.00 parking is a stickler for many people... It wouldn't be if they were a bowl team, but until we get there, I believe have to do more to entice people...

If you want my honest opinion, we don't charge enough. I think we shoud charge $20 for parking. I go to football games all over and $20 is cheapim talking about MWC games. We need to quit giving away the farm and start charging. Geez we sound like Okie State 10 years ago. Time to bite the bullet and move on. We will lose some fans but we will eventually get the fans and more back.

Time to move this program forward.

RE: Relax parking rules... I just don't get it...

Good point. A good analogy I thought of is a state park. We have a place near Artesia called Sitting Bull Falls. It used to be free and it was run down and had lots of rift-raft. The park system renovated it and began to charge to visit. It is much more enjoyable to attend and brings out more families now. I know this is a sensitive issue in a poor state but sometimes you get what you pay for. Make it free to park and even free to get in and you will get folks coming you don't want and they won't be true fans. It's a tough balance. Spend some money on a new HD jumbo tron and a new sound system and charge a little more. Oh yeah and win!!!

Boy I couldn't disagree more and here is why.  That will just force more folks to park in ajoining neighboorhoods creating more problems in the area.

That is why we have tow trucks, boots, and police officers to cite if necessary.     Seriously the neighbors don't have to take people parking illegally and blocking their driveway.

$10 parking is affordable.    If more fans would donate to the Lobo Club.....they could get a parking pass for free.   Not that dificult.

RE: Relax parking rules... I just don't get it...

I have no problem with 10.00 parking for football as  do it all the time... I'm talking about other folks...

I pesonally think they should bring back the carpool rule for football as a way to encourage people to bring friends to the game... 10.00 or free for the football stadium... I think that was pretty ingenious myself...

For basketball since you already have the people locked in you bring the price up to 10-20 to get locked in and you encourage those that come to get a parking pass through Lobo Club.

Yes UNM is in a way holding people hostage, but use it in a way that benefits each individual program... Football need more bodies, give an incentive for more bodies! Basketball needs more money encourage them to give more money!
