I have never seen a Lobo Football team

with this much heart and will to win. They don't know how to quit and they are only short on bodies, not heart or soul. My hat is off to this years team, they are laying the ground work for future success that will make even the most fence sitting fan sit up and take notice.

Thank you coaches and players.biggrin

I was out of town today and couldnt attend- saw unm was down 21-7 and had chance to win late which was good to see.

On the other hand, how in the hell do we not win after racking up 551 yards of offense????

The way you don't win is by leaving a lot of points on the table. The Lobos were in scoring positions multiple times today and could not translate those positions into points (similar to what happened at UNLV in my opinion)

Great effort and when we get talent to surround the heart and determination of the guys here and coming back watch out! I hate loosing and it is never ok, to see the players and coaches work so hard is what keeps my hopes up.

I did not see the game but based on the stats the Lobos should have won easily. Something just Does not seem right. That is the best opinion I can give.

Re: I have never seen a Lobo Football team

We have some youth on this team. We have a depleted secondary that does extremely well at times and then just opens the gate for the other team.

LoboRam sad to say I saw Tim get burned for the first time this year. With the odds stacked against him I think that he has had a hell of a season so far. Glover Quin and DeAndre Wright got burned a few times at corner.

The offense left points out there, a bunch. A freshman fumbles the ball down on the 5. Things like that.

What is missing is experience in this system. Next year will be a different story.

I love Cole but if we get a QB that can handle the option and pass then we may see someone else at QB. We can't have 2. Either Cole develops as a passer or we go a different direction. After today I think Cole will be a good passer that will really run this offense like it really should be. The sky is the limit for Cole.

These players are really amazing. Had the ball in the fourth quarter with a chance to win. Same with Boise. Same with Air Force. Guys are playing hard. I really don't know what else we can expect of them at this point.

But, my god, it is refreshing to see the Lobos play competitive, disciplined games.

Missed FG right before half.
Missed on fake FG around the 25
Fumble inside the 10 on first drive after half
Gave up 21 points in 2nd with some huge plays and long passes

For starters.

We have come a long way, but have a long way to go.

Thought once again we didn't attack the edges well... I like Kasey on the dive plays, but I also love C-Bow pitching to the WR's on the option... That is just nasty!

Defensively... I wish we would blitz more... Good things happen when you pressure the QB. Bad things happen when you don't...

Still a good game, I love what Davie has built so far, but as a fan... Would like to see a little bit more speed at the end of tonight's game...

I agree up to a point. However from listening to the radio it sounded as if we nearly lost a couple of more balls on those pitches because Cole sells the keeper so good that he even surprised our WRs from time to time. Maybe that had something to do with it. Overall it sounded as if our offense was a lot less one-diemsional yesterday which is certainly a good thing and I think we are definitely moving in the right direction.

On defense for the most part I liked that we were able to get pressure on more often than not (with the exception of that 2nd quarter). However it is obvious that we need time to recruit more and better suited players for the secondary. Basically it sounded as if our secondary got completely shredded whenever Smith had time to throw. Did the CBs and safeties even defend a single pass all day?

Re: I have never seen a Lobo Football team

you are right, rudyc, you may not always have the talent, but you can always play hard. I think that it is a combination of things that are causing this to happen, and that is that although we don't have enough bullets yet, the ones that we do have, are say that we are good players, but because of all of the stuff that has happened with the previous coaching staff, they didn't do what you must do to any team, but Coach Davie and the staff now is doing, in that it looked at the make-up of this team, and said that we will feature the rushing attack, that is the best way that this team can win and be successful, while the staff also goes out and gets more bullets for the gun on both offense and defense!!!!!!!!!!!!

Go Lobos!!!!!!!!!!

Re: I have never seen a Lobo Football team

Listening to Greg on the radio, sounds like Wyo was taking away the dive.  With some things going on this weekend I did not get to, nor listen to all the game.  Sounds like a lot of 3rd and short situations the dive was stopped yet kept getting called.  I understand the don't fix it if it ain't broke and the pancake guys should be good for a yard or two in all those situations.  But sounded like a several lost yards on the dive in 3rd and short.  Might have been good to give the ball to Flash or Clayton outside or play action with a short pass in some of those times.  Make em guess a little.  But even with that, several points left on the field.  And also maybe part of the mindset and culture of the last four years.  gotta learn how to win the close ones. Going back to the Boise game, I think if the Lobos had been able to make one or two plays and pull out the win, the confidence would be there to maybe have won a couple more of these last games against AF, Fresno and Wyo.  And feeling more confident with Nevada coming in, a team that is capable of a lot of big plays.  The competitive aspect, as many have said, is so much better.   We can all look at dropped picks, fumbles inside the 15, a play or two in games that could have changed the W-L column.  One or two of those plays going right against Boise, who knows???

The Lobos have won 4 games this year, and with a couple of breaks here and there, they would have been bowl bound.

Davies has brought back hope. He made the team competitive. The Lobos are no longer pushovers.

I can't wait for next season!

Re: I have never seen a Lobo Football team

The Secondary gave up some plays but we seem to give up big plays when there is little to no pressure on the QB. Also I watched a lot of NFL football today and saw those DB's give up passes and TD's. My point is even the pros give up big plays. I think we are moving in the right direction and the kids we have that are returning are a great foundation.

Re: I have never seen a Lobo Football team

Props to the Lobos for competing to the end and keeping it interesting for us fans to watch a real football game come down to the final play of the game but I wonder what I'm missing about the 3rd and short and 4th and short plays where we are going up the middle when the option pitch plays around the edges seem to be working better.

I think we would have won the game had we not had the 15 yard personal foul with 4 minutes left with us on the 45!  We played a good game against a solid team.  The Wyo QB was impressive.

RE: I have never seen a Lobo Football team

I agree... that's personal foul really killed what seemed to be drive they wouldn't be able to stop. Not sure what happened, but Davie seemed surprised the officials made the call at that point, unless I miss interpreted him in the post game press conference video.
