Badgermaniac

You can tell by my number of posts that I don't come around often.  With that said I don't see any posts from badgermaniac.  Is he ok? Just curious.

he hasn't posted much for several years.  I think he got fed up with the pissing matches and decided he had better things to do.  just a guess.

We shouldn't speak for Maniac but I suspect you're correct.  Also, after over 24,000 posts he's probably said all he needs to say biggrin.

Re: Badgermaniac

Well, I actually made a post on the fb recruiting board yesterday. I also made a post on the fb board about a month ago. So there.

Seriously, yes, I more or less retired from posting for a few reasons.

1. As an admin, it just became easier to not get involved. No matter what I said, folks were going to start complaining about alleged deletion /censorship/blah...blah...blah and the topics just were too easily sidetracked. What is kind of ironic is that the reason I started this board 15 years ago was because I liked to discuss/debate/argue, so why would I extinguish that debate?

2. There have always been the reactionary critical fans, but after a while, they just got tiring to deal with. No matter what was posted to refute some of the ridiculous things people claim, the cycle just repeats over and over. The same moronic things folks criticize coaches/programs for today are identical to what they said 10 years ago. After a while, I just got tired of dealing with it. I understand why message boards have such a bad rep amongst those "in the know" (even though the net has some of the best fans around.)

Really, that is it. It is mainly #1, but #2 made that decision easy.

I am still around every day keeping things organized and civil. When I hang it up soon, I may come back as a poster, but then again, I may not. I just don't know.

I remember when some moronic posters suggested that Barry Alvarez and his staff were getting lazy with recruiting and always seemed a dollar late and a dollar short.
You pointed how "moronic" they were over and over.
Barry Alvarez soon retired and then admitted that he was tired of recruiting and needed a younger HC and staff to compete in recruiting.
It was always moronic if you disagreed or if it were critical of what had become a mediocre program scheduling dogs to remain relevant.

Re: Badgermaniac

Example #1.....not what I said (nor not exactly what Alvarez has said for that matter). After a while, you get tired of repeating what you really did say to people like this who would rather fulfill their agenda than have a real conversation.

RE: Badgermaniac

I find most of BM's posts to be of significant value.

A recent example is his analysis of the ten toughest and ten easiest football schedules the Badgers have played.

That's great stuff, and most posters aren't contributing content of that caliber.

That said, even though I don't post very often, I have had my differences with him. There was a point last basketball season when it seemed we were allowed to criticize every player except Ryan Evans.

And it will always bother me just a little that he - along with many, many others - never ate their words after being on the wrong side of the Russell Wilson debate prior to the 2011 season. There was some pretty open mockery of the idea that Wilson could even approach Scott Tolzien's level of efficiency, let alone set a new standard for college football, which he did.

But, like I said, he's far from the only one on this board who won't admit when they're wrong.

RE: Badgermaniac

Every player is open to criticism. When it crosses the line to personal attacks, those posts go. I am a big efficiency guy so obviously he wasn't my favorite player. A lot of his critics went way over the line.

I stopped posting before Wilson played a game, so not really a place to eat my words. That being said, I never said that he had no chance to approach Tolzien's efficiency. I said that expecting that kind of play from a new player who had never played at that kind of level was not reasonable. Sometimes unreasonable things happen, which was great for Badger fans in this instance. I will still contend that the people who were "right" really had no basis for it and just lucked into something that they really didn't understand.

But, if it makes you feel better, no...I did not expect him to set an NCAA efficiency record. If that makes me wrong, I was wrong.

(As great as he was......I also think he had a lot of help from the best Badger offensive team of all time combined with a light schedule and a fantastic OC. )

RE: Badgermaniac

I've never posted much.
Guess I just like to find out things about the Badgers.
I think Badgermaniac has done a wonderful public service for Badger fans.
Perfect, heck no.
Irritating sometimes, maybe.
Having given those criticisms, what Badgermaniac has given fans is wonderful.
Thanks.

Amen! I remember when he started this board, and did all the heavy lifting to get a community together, nurture it, grow it, and police it. I always have appreciated what he did, especially for those of us in the Badger diaspora who otherwise would not have been connected to the motherland. Kudos!
