TJ Schlundt

Posted: 5/8/2012 7:47 PM

TJ Schlundt

Is this recruit someone WI is following? I know most of you hate comparisons, but I just saw a video of him playing, and I thought I was watching a Jon Scheyer clone. Everything about him reminded me of Scheyer. Sounds like a legit two guard with size. Anyone know much about him?

There are many who would disagree he is not a scholarship player.

I think UWM just offered him. He has two years of high school left. My guess is that he'll get better.

Not as a scholarship player for us*. Looks like we're going to have 3 spots to fill in the 2014 class and we are after much better prospects than him at the moment.

Re: TJ Schlundt

I am an assistant coach in his conference and have seen him play 6 times.  He is a great talent, but probably not somebody a big school would offer at this point.  Of course he has two years of high school left and will probably get much better by next season.  In my opinion he is a great scorer, but probably needs to improve in all other areas to get the big offers.

Thank you Wayne Cook !

Re: TJ Schlundt

TJ Schlundt's dad played for Marquette with Doc Rivers.  He was 6'7".  So it is very possible TJ gets to about that height, maybe taller, who knows!  Also, I believe TJ has an offer from UWGB as well.
I like it slow, just like Bo.

TJ is one of my closest friends and a very good basketball player. He is an unbelievable scorer and has a very good sense of basketball. He is very smart with the ball, doesnt take dumb shots, and doesnt turn the ball over. TJ is a great defensive player but does need to learn how to defend the post a bit better. For his size he is unbelievable in transition and extremely athletic, his rebounding is good, and he can shoot NBA 3's anyday of the week. I have played TJ in one on one and he is a very good ball handler and has a lot of moves, and obviously I lost, I haven't seen a better jumpshot than TJ's in the state and maybe the country but this kid is for sure big school material and will be very good moving forward.

This reminds me of a similar insight I had many years ago. Bo Ryan used to live in my neighborhood and in the spring he would sometimes have the team over for a barbecue. One day I walked by his house with my 7-year-old son, and several UW basketball players were shooting hoops in his front driveway. My son walked up to them and played with them for a few minutes. At one point, Devin Harris playfully dribbled around my son and dunked the basketball. Now obviously my son lost, but I was astounded at the moves Harris had. To this day, I have never seen a basketball player go around a 7-year-old and take it to the rim like Devin did. Until that day, I was uncertain of his NBA potential; but after seeing that, I knew for sure that he was pro material.

His father was not considered to be a big time recruit, but had a pretty good career at MU.

so you're saying his only deficiency is defending the post, something he'll rarely ever have to do in college, and he is incredible at everything else.

sounds like he's ready for the NBA!

Now we've heard from his mother and his brother. banghead I don't think waiting until his season opens up is a terrible minimum request.  The question was, is Bucky interested?  What you were reminded of was not part of the request.  cool  To many of you think you're polititians and do not answer accordingly.  eek

Good god.  Put down the kool aid kid.  The asst coach who chimed in hit it right except he was too nice also.  It's not "probably" needs to work on a few things but he "MUST" work on a few things if he wants to go high D-1.  Start with his defense and then go to ball handling and then move on from there.

Admittedly TJ has a higher upside when compared to other kids from that class who attend high school in Wisconsin, particularly if he keeps growing, but there is much work yet to do.

Turner and Vaughn are in the 14 class and are rated higher.  Bucky is watching his development and if things cool on both of these he may be the next one pending on other needs- Many bigs- Finke Looney etc...

Re: TJ Schlundt

FYI TJ visited wisconsin and said he was highly interested, yes there are things he needs to work on to be college material, but at the high school level he is extremely dominant, he isnt this huge scorer everyone makes him out to be. He can be when he takes his fair amount of shots but most of the time he is a pass first type of guy. He gets right around 8-10 rebounds a game, and I have played basketball with TJ since 4th grade and counting this kid is for sure D-1 material. My prediction for his college career is he will be a spot up jumpshooter that can create his own shot when he needs too. Like i said his post defense needs to improve and sometimes his shot selections need to be smarter, other than  that there is no reason for TJ not to go D-1 considering he already has offers from Creighton, Harvard, Drake, and UW-Green Bay. He has visited Marquette and Wisconsin.

Look at what NY2LA said about his jumpshot, i quote "One of the most pure shooters in the COUNTRY" watch him play then talk to me. I havent missed one of TJ's games in high school i know what he can do.

Re: TJ Schlundt

I looked at TJ's profile on NY2LA and these schools are the ones showing interest:

Oconomowoc (Wis.) 2014 SG T.J. Schlundt has offers from Drake, Wisconsin-Green Bay, and Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Butler, Creighton, Harvard, Iowa, Iowa State, Indiana, Marquette, Minnesota, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, and Yale are all expressing interest.

Now what do you think? Is he big school material? Is Notre dame? Wisconsin? Nebraska? Minnesota? Butler? Iowa? INDIANA?! the answer is YES!

Calm down Raccoon.  You make it sound like no one believes your boy has any talent.  Give him some time to grow and mature and lets see where the other Wisky targets go.  We don't have that many tickets to the show that year but I'm sure UW will do their due diligence nontheless.

IF he plays well at the UW camp(s) this upcoming summer AND other 2014 players drop off/leave our "wish list", could happen.

I hope TJ continues to get better and merits recruiting at the highest level.  It's great that he already has offers from some regional mid-majors.  But the following statement actually suggests that you don't really know what it takes to play at the D1 level.  The truth is, the high schools ranks are filled with stars that have no D1 ability at all.

Re: TJ Schlundt

Without regard to this kid, who is a really good player, it's just hilarious to me how people get bent out of shape if somebody says a kid is a borderline D1 player.  You have to be an exceptional player (with the exception of some project bigs) to get D1 interest of any kind.  The guys who play at the top level WIAC schools are better than 98.5% of people who play any kind of competitive basketball in the US yet lots of people take the idea that somebody might "only" get offered by a non-high major D1 as some sort of slap.

Re: TJ Schlundt

TJ's Oconomowoc team plays against an exceptionally talented and deep Lodi team at Concordia University in Mequon on Friday 12/28 at 6:00pm.  It'll be interesting to see if TJ can put up decent numbers against Lodi as they have several lock-down defenders, including 6'4" swingman Jordan Shea, another mid-level D1 recruit.  I've heard that Lodi's point guard, Kris Seffrood, who had meniscus surgery about a month ago, may be back for this game.

For those interested, there are a boat-load of great games being played at Concordia on the 26th, 27th and 28th, including Bronson Koenig vs Diamond Stone at 5:30 on Wednesday the 26th, and Matt Thomas vs Wauwatosa East just prior to that game at 4:00.  Thomas also plays against Kaukauna the following day at 4:00.  Bronson only plays one game for some reason.  I'm sure there are others as well, but I couldn't find a link to the event schedule.
