If you had the talent. Would you have played for Bo?

If you had the talent. Would you have played for Bo?

If you were a top talent and you were recruited by the rest of the country would you have been a Badger and please give me the reasons why or why not?  I think all of you know where I would be on this so I would love to hear some commentary on this.  Be honest.  I have joked with my son and have told him that we would not commit until later because we have our trips.  Hawaii, USC, Washington, and FSU.  Have fun.  But in the end he would be a Badger.

Tallahassee?

USC?

I'm beginning to doubt he would have the grades if he is really your son.

Oh we were just going there for the fun.  I scored enough to get into all of the Ivy League schools.  So will he.  Those were Dad's choices. tongue

Umm.  Let's think.  Vacation.  If he was that talented he would be a Badger.  His Bed sheets and Comforter are Badgers.  His sippy cup had Bucky Badger on it.  His favorite men's player is Sam Dekker.  His favorite girl's player is Skylar Diggins.  Who can blame him?  He was more upset at the Badger loss in the Final 4 than I was.  I had to sit down and have a talk with him about how hard the Badger pla;yed and how proud we were of them.

Re: If you had the talent. Would you have played for Bo?

If you took me as I am right now, gave me the talent and undid the last 10 years?  Yes.  Obviously.  Basketball has always been my favorite anything and I spend way too much time per day on more than one Badger message board.

If I, as I was in high school, had the talent?  I probably would have been an early Marquette lean because Dwayne Wade had just happened but other than that I didn't really pay attention to college basketball.  So I might have ended up playing for Bo, but the field would have been open.  Then again, I knew I wanted to go to UW after attending a football game as a freshman, so maybe I would have been a Wisconsin lean.

Re: If you had the talent. Would you have played for Bo?

Given Bo was coaching at Platteville when I was choosing a college, no. I wouldn't have played for Bo if I had been a top talent wink I was academically oriented and had my choices of Wisconsin, Cal-Berkeley, Stanford and a couple Ivy League schools with Illinois as a fall back plan if I couldn't get enough financial aid to go to the school of my choice. I'm originally a FIB, not by choice. Berkeley was my first choice but I would have had to wait until Winter quarter to start so I chose #1B, Wisconsin, the school with the #2 program in the country that I planned on majoring in.

I wouldn't have chosen to play for Yo-er (no "d") but if Bo were at the helm, forget the others! There would have been no doubt. The campus, Union, city of Madison and Hoofer's club had me at "hello". I liked the Fieldhouse too.

Official visits to UCLA, U of San Diego, Arizona, Berkeley and St. John's (first 3 for the weather, last 2 to see the Bay Area and NYC)....I was a small town kid who dreamed of surfing and seeing the big cities and hot ladies tongue

I would have gone to Madison--- these are the reasons---- the atmosphere, KC, Union, Lake,Academics, for basketball--- I would have gotten even better as BO knows how to develop players even ones that aren't good at all or are very very good....  I would get the most out of my talent athletically and academically (grammar and spelling too).

Michael,

But of course....do you really need to ask me that question wink

As for visits...hmmm
1. Pepperdine (Malibu)
2. St. John's (NYC)
3. Washington (Seattle's an awesome city)
4. Hawaii (Duh)

Re: If you had the talent. Would you have played for Bo?

If I had the talent to be a good college basketball player who wanted to play for a great program and get an education that would prepare me for life post college I would have played for Bo at UW

If I was a true blue chip recruit with my eye on being in the NBA in 1-2 years (hey if I can dream about having the talent I can dream big) I would probably look to play elsewhere.

Re: If you had the talent. Would you have played for Bo?

If you were Lebron James or a top talent in the NBA and had the choice...would you play for Gregg Popavich?

Is this analogy a stretch...maybe but the mindset of team first, no egos, and how to play the right way is there.  I am willing to bet past Phil Jackson, Pop would be the top of every players list if they want to win.

To answer your question....Yes but I am biased and clearly a Badger fan and I grew up in Wisconsin. I wouldn't care if I could go anywhere....not all young kids are the same though. excited

Re: If you had the talent. Would you have played for Bo?

I would lean heavily towards staying home at a great school, program, campus, social life, family could watch, etc., etc., etc.

Barring any other factors, the only other school/program that might bear investigating for me would be MSU.

Just kidding!! tongue   Meant UVA.

Go Badgers!  On Wisconsin!

One of these things is really not like the other.  4 of these schools have been to Final Fours recently.  One team never has.

Well they won the NIT last year so that's really not that bad..... They also didn't lose to an 8 seed and choke down the stretch, like one of the teams on here.

Before that great NIT run Minnesota lost a must win game in the Big Ten Tournament 83-57.  What team on this list crushed their real tournament hopes

Re: If you had the talent. Would you have played for Bo?

TOTALLY disagree.  For RIchard to win the NIT as a first year coach and beating a Larry Brown coached SMU team unjustly left out of the tournament is a HUGE accomplishment.  It only gets better from here for Minnesota.  Plus, I'm fairly certain Richard will take over for his dad at UofL when Pitino retires.  Richard is one of the top young coaches in the game.

MInnesota was in the final four in 1997, i assume that is the team you are suggesting has never made the final four?

If Richard continues to win those NIT's i'd be willing to bet he'll be at Louisville sooner than you think......as an assistant.

Re: If you had the talent. Would you have played for Bo?

I would absolutely play for Wisconsin regardless of the coach.  My talents would bring national championships to the beloved UW, and establish a championship atmoshphere for years to come.  Actually my plan would be to play football, most likely at the RB position, and switch to basketball after the national championship bowl game.  There would be plenty of baskeball season left to ensure a bid to the Big Dance.

My official visits:
Florida State
UCLA
Hawaii
Harvard (never been to Boston)
Arizona

Re: If you had the talent. Would you have played for Bo?

Yeah, except he overachieved BIG TIME this year.  He didn't even have a PF and pulled off some big wins in the Big 10, a few wins from an NCAA tournament invite.  Once he gets a couple of recruiting classes under his belt, Minnesota will be in the same conversation as Michigan State and Wisconsin as far as the Big 10 title is concerned.

Nope, sorry, all that the 1996-97 Minnesota basketball team accomplished was to bring shame on the University and embarrassment to a conference that prides itself on being a little better than most when it comes to student athletes.  Never having been to a final four is nothing to be ashamed of.  Getting there and having the trip stripped from the record book for a cheating scandal is.

Also, the only two teams who have never won a national championship on this list are the two Big Ten teams...

I'll repeat what has already been said.........you were in the NIT......NOBODY CARES!  Quite honestly, until it was brought up in this thread i couldn't name either team in the NIT championship this past year. Maybe you guys will be relevant in the BIG under Pitino, but maybe you should wait until it happens first and then spout off about it after it actually happens, until then....blah2blah2blah2blah2blah2
