IU-Minnesota

Does Minnesota have ANY chance?

I don't think they do...  But it'd sure be nice for them to pull their heads out of their asses and make this race interesting.

Dan Dakich just said, after noting Indiana hasn't won an outright Big Ten title since 1993 or a shared title since 2002, "They hang banners and they give rings for championships."

No mention of Sweet Sixteens...

They should have every bit of a chance that Illinois did a few weeks ago when they were 2-7 in conference circling the drain. Will have to limit the turnovers but they might play a little better at Indiana's faster pace.

Early foul on Zeller. I'd feed Mbakwe over and over again to try and get Zeller's 2nd.

RE: IU-Minnesota

Line kept creeping in toward the Goophs heading into tip. Started Indiana -7 (I believe, at least that's what I had at 10 am) and was -5 10 minutes to tip. SO money was flowing in on Minny, but I took Indiana ML so I personally don't think Tubby can rise to the occasion. But who knows? Minny has the talent and both have overrated coaches so it could happen

Do they make posters for a guy blocking a shot like a beast?

If so, Mbakwe just put Zeller on a poster.

Why do so many teams insist on trying to run and gun with IU?  Makes about as much sense as Saddam trying to fight a stand up war with the US the first time around in the Gulf.

They're going to need Mbakwe to play 35 minutes tonight. He went out and Indiana scores 10 points and Minnesota doesn't come close on their 4 terrible shots.

I agree.  That was MSU's downfall, especially in the 1st game they played.

I wonder if they'll hang another sweet 16 banner and give out rings again this year if they get knocked out in the sweet 16?

The MN starting 5 can play at indiana's pace, but their bench is average at best.
If they can stay close perhaps they can steal this late.

Trever M is playing possessed so far.

They are pretty much just clueless.

Hopefully the trash shots they throw up go in for this game.

Indiana giving up transition layups off of made baskets. Zeller getting embarrassed.

Just need Hulls to quit making everything

I keep thinking there is no way that Minnesota can win, they are too poorly coached -- either that or some of them are uncoachable... then again Crean isn't really equipped to exploit that weakness...

Indeed, Zeller's draft stock has got to be taking a hit right now -- although I don't think anyone was mistaking him for a power player.

Mbakwe will probably get a look in the NBA, but he is putting the hurt on Zeller physically right now.

He's made a few good decisions this game, actually.  Popping in and out of zone is a good idea.  Minnesota is AWFUL against the zone.  And AWFUL is being too kind.

He also took Zeller off Mbakwe early after Zeller's early foul, although that was probably kind of a no brainer.

Yeah, it looks like he also adjusted and is sending more people to the glass.  They were getting killed on boards - but that might be more due to Mbakwe beasting.

Indiana is a good 3 point shooting team.  You have to run them off the 3 point line and can't help off a guy like Hulls.  Yet Minnesota continues to lose Hulls and he's killing them.  I know guys get hot sometimes (think OSU's Diebler on senior day) but Wisconsin has shown you can take guys like Hulls away by playing good defense.  Unfortunately Minnesota apparently has no idea how to do that so far.

Why the hell is Crean playing Elston and Creek? What do they bring that the other 8 don't? Nothing.

On Wisconsin!

Guards are going to have to play better down the stretch for Minnesota. They're only down two with their three starting guards shooting 5-23. Their starters, outside Mbakwe, are 7-32.

Eliason and Mbakwe are all that's keeping them in it (and Ahanmisi's two 3s).

At my older age I am just conditioned that no Minnesota team, professional or amateur, in any sport,  could EVER help one of my teams.

Sad, but true.
