Your Top 5 Favorite Games All Time

Always like to here what people say on this matter.

Here are mine counting down to my favorite.

5. vs Indiana this year. Love hating on Tom Crean
4. vs Texas 2007. Flowers hits the 3 pointer to take lead then throws ball in air
3. vs Purdue 2000 Elite 8. Making it to the final four was awesome
2. vs NC State 2005 S16. Great comeback in second half to make it to the elite 8
1. vs Tulsa 2003 second round. I dont think this one will ever come off number 1. This was one of those comeback games that you just done see. Down by 13 points with 3:30 left in the game. Owens hits the 3 with 1 second left to take the lead. I replay this game every march before the tournament and the crowd is so loud when he hits the 3 i thought my tv speakers would blow up.

RE: Your Top 5 Favorite Games All Time

5. vs. Tulsa. I had actually given up on the game in the second half when they turned the Badger game to a different game, and then my dad called me and told me the Badgers won. I was like WTF lol....ah, great times

4. vs. Duke. The Big Ten had lost every Challenge before. Wisconsin was playing Duke and OSU was playing FSU in Columbus. It was a foregone conclusion OSU would win. They were better.....and at home. It would all come down to Wisconsin/Duke. The Badgers, specifically Hughes, played really well. Andre Dawkins was big down the stretch for the Blue Devils, but it was not enough. When Duke's last second pass was wide of the mark and out of bounds, I went crazy.

3. vs. FSU in the tournament. Wisconsin played terrible in half one and was down double digits, but Nankivil led the Badgers to the comeback early in the second. I love after Bohannon's big three with under a minute left, the color guy said "That was so deep, it should have counted for four!" Then, Hughes with the huge shot. That was a great game!

2. vs. No. 1 OSU. What a comeback. I thought we were done when we fell behind 47-32, so I turned off the game on the TV, but still listened to Lepay. What an amazing moment.

1. at Texas. Nobody thought we had a shot, especially after Hughes got hurt the day before the game. Man, what a game. And this just made the game better: www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZzsKlOqNIkw

4. Butch's buzzer beater at IU.

1. Beating LSU in the tourny when we were expected to get crushed

5. Flowers vs Texas (Bo Ryan is a thief!)
4. 09? tourney vs FSU
3. beating Duke to win the BIG/ACC challenge
2. Freddie Owens game winner vs. Tulsa
1. #1 OSU - had front row seats in the student section that day, I'll never forget that comeback

Edited because I'm an idiot!

5. LSU 2000 tourney

4. Richmond 2004 tourney--just a great comeback

3. Illinois 2003--Devin Harris clinches 1st outright big 10 title of my lifetime (I was 32 at the time)

2. Freddie Owens

1. The banner game at MSU--so much fun on so many levels. Paul Davis crying like a 9 year old girl on the sidelines. Chris Hill doing his Ryan Evans impression. And the banner stays furled.

I got the shotgun....you got the briefcase......all in the game though

RE: Your Top 5 Favorite Games All Time

1.  Versus Illinois for the outright title, 2003, when Devin hit the winning FT.
2.  Versus Purdue, 2000, to go to the FF.
3.  Versus UM, 2002, for the first title (shared) in about 50 years.
4.  Versus MSU, 2008, at the BTT, where we came back from a big deficit in the second half when Bo rope-a-doped Izzo until he had no big men left, and Flowers picked Neitzel for the winning basket.
5.  Versus OSU in 2011 when Jordan Taylor torched the #1 team.

I could go on for about 20 other amazing wins.  These ARE the good old days!

All great. My favorite was Patrick Tompkins tip in 1990 vs. Minny at the FH. Great pass by Porty!

One of my all-time favorite endings, involving one of my all-time favorite Badger players (PT).  I watched it alone in a hotel room in Memphis and I think I woke the whole place up at the end.

It's safe to say Patrick will be the last 6'5 All Big Ten center.

Thanks for the link, I've never seen that video before and it really got to me. That's my number one game also, and that just tops it off. I don't have the longevity that some people here do so mine are all fairly recent.

5. vs. FSU, 2009 - Awesome game, I jumped out of my seat when Hughes hit the and-one.

4. @ #2 Indiana, 2013 - My hatred for both Indiana and Crean has never been more satisfied.

3. vs. #5 Duke, 2009 - We got killed the year before (maybe two years, whatever) in Durham and I'd always hated Duke and everything about them. I was convinced we were gonna lose when Dawkins started shooting lights-out but was relieved when we held on and Hughes put it away.

2. vs. #1 Ohio State, 2011 - We were down 15 I believe in the second half and, well, you know the rest. Jordan Taylor played arguably the best 13 minutes of basketball in Wisconsin history.

1. @ #9 Texas, 2007 - This game had it all for me. The underdog point-of-view, the excitement, the clutch plays, everything.

WI vs Marquette in Al's last or second to last season as coach. We upset them in Milwaukee and 6'1 Wes Mathews posterizes their air craft carrier with an in your face dunk in the process.
Don't believe what you read on internet message boards - that's what started WWI.

5.Minnesota,1997,last game at the field house. Wisconsin was a bubble team. Minnesota was the best team in the conference and went on to a vacated Final Four. Grant had a big game.
4.Tulsa,2003. I was pissed, and gave up on them. Went for a walk, and suddenly the game had gotten close. Then Owens hit's the three to get them to the Sweet 16.
3.Indiana,2000. Bobby knight's last game at Wisconsin(we didn't know it yet). Get's t'd up and ejected, but still shakes Bennett's hand. Wisconsin was a bubble team and needed the win. Without it,they don't make the NCAA's possibly.
2.MSU,2002. MSU had really owned Wisconsin. Again,a three by Owens. Then MSU seemingly wins the game, only to show time had run out. A huge game.
1.Pittsburgh,2006. Vitale did the game, and Wisconsin played REALLY well. Tucker had a massive dunk,Butch dominated, and just an overall great game.

5.  '07 (i think) vs #2 Pitt.  I think my optimism for that years team was higher than for any before or since after that game
4. Flowers/Texas/Thievery
3. vs #1 OSU
2. http://espn.go.com/ncb/recap?gameId=280590275  Pretty meaningless game, but an absolute dismantling of a team I hate so much.  Not as close as the score indicates.  One turnover!!
1. Banner gate.  Just glorious on every level

How about 1979 beating Magic Johnson and MSU on wes Mathhews half court shot.

Beating Minnesota to go the Big Dance when they were ranked #2.  1997

Beating Cincinnati in NCAA first round 1994.

Beating Bobby Knight in the clipboard game in 2000.

Beating Illinois to win the Big Ten title.  2003

Bobby has a lot of respect for Coach Bennett.  I remember thinking at the end of that game how strange it was to see Bobby go from maniacally outraged at the end of the game to downright cordial during the handshake.

"All Time"?  Going back to Jr HS:

1962 -- Beating #1 OSU (Lucas, Havlicek, et al)

1976(?) -- MSU with Magic

2000 -- Purdue to get to the FF

2011 --  #1 OSU (Sitting in the stands with my guest, my first boss, Tom Hughbanks, who was captain of the 1962 team)

2013 -- #2 IU

RE: Your Top 5 Favorite Games All Time

Since my frosh year was '02, that's when my list starts...

'03 vs Illinois - Harris' FT with a couple seconds left on the foul by Dee Brown. Rushed the court from my row 5 seats I sat outside for 3 weeks to get.

BO RYAN IS A THIEF!

OSU #1 -- Jordan Taylor goes full on beast mode!

Duke goes down at the KC!

Banner game

A ton of honorable mentions... NC State in the S16, FSU and Tulsa tourney games. Beating Pitt when they were #2, with Butch beating some thing like 27 points. Butch's bank 3 at Indy. Indy this year. Beating OSU in Columbus last year. Tucker's buzzer beater vs Indy at the KC in '05 and his 40 foot winner vs Michigan in the BTT. 1st round game vs Richmond.

And two games we actually lost that I enjoyed thoroughly... The Elite 8 game vs UNC and last years thriller vs Syracuse.

1. Beating Michigan to win Bo's 1st BTT - 2002 - loudest I ever heard the Kohl center crowd..

2. Beating Purdue to get to the Final Four - simply amazing.

3. Beating OSU in the 15 point comeback - beat #1.

4. Beating #2 Minnesota to squeak into the tourney - last Big Ten game ever at the Fieldhouse

5. Beating eventualy national champs Michigan at Fieldhouse in OT in 1989 - loudest I ever heard the Fieldhouse crowd.

Re: Your Top 5 Favorite Games All Time

I feel very much like the OP -- my #1 is the Tulsa game and it will be hard to displace it. I don't have any new games to add to the list, but my next 4 in no particular order are:

1) I was at the 1979 Wes Matthews half-courter to beat Magic Johnson's Spartans, and, as fate would have it, also at 2) the Bannergate game having lived in Spartyland at the time. 3) The conference clincher vs. Illinois and the 4) E8 Purdue game were the ones I was most emotional about afterwards.

The Texas game was also memorable, and there's always a soft spot for Adam Bass and his son on that one when I think about it. There were several others mentioned here that are in the conversation, too.

Maybe the Gasser shot to beat Michy at Crisler belongs on this list somewhere.

Re: Your Top 5 Favorite Games All Time

Makes me feel old.

Here's mine.

#1 - 1989  Wisconsin 71 Michigan 68 - Tim Locum drains 2 free throws to seal the deal, stunning Glen Rice, Rumeal Robinson and the rest of the eventual national champs.  We storm the court.

#2 - 2011  Wisconsin 71 Ohio State 67 - Jordan Taylor goes OFF.  Beating number one, Adding to the increasingly nasty UW/OSU rivalry after knocking them off in Football too, oh yeah, and Spitgate.  Epic.

#3 - TIE 2002 and 2004 at MSU.  Ending the Streak and keeping the Banner in the rafters.  In the last decade plus, this rivalry has been the Big Ten's best and one of the nation's nastiest.  These two games are cornerstones of that castle of hate.

#4 - 2009 - Wisconsin 73 Duke 69 - Maybe Trevon Hughes' best game as a Badger.  He was brilliant in the second half as UW handed the Blue Devils their first ever B1G/ACC challenge loss

#5 - 2005 - Wisconsin 67 Texas 66 - BO RYAN IS A THIEF!  Michael Flowers with the shot, the steal and the toss.  Great moment for a great badger.

Honorable Mention(because we lost) 1987 Indiana 86 Wisconsin 85 (3OT)  Still the greatest game I've ever seen a team play and lose.  Wanna talk free throw issues?  Ask Shelton Smith about Free throws.  STILL the two worst misses in program history, Larry Hisle jr aint got nothin' on him.

Updated to include yesterday's insanity!

-------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------

Here's my ranking of the top 32 Badger victories under Bo Ryan.

Those who don't remember the Michigan game well might be surprised to see it ranked #2, but at the time, the excitement around that game was incredible with the Badgers coming out of nowhere--picked tenth in the Big Ten race--clinching our first title in more than 50 years.  I still believe that one, despite being a blowout, ranks above every other except the Illinois title-clinching win the following year.

RE: Your Top 5 Favorite Games All Time

I was at the game in Austin. My brother was a student there at the time and was in the student section with his Longhorn jersey on top and his Devin Harris jersey underneath. When Flowers hit the shot he ripped his longhorn jersey off and came and celebrated with us (he was rooting for UW the whole game but had to survive the student section so wore his UT gear over). Pretty special game. Best i've ever attended. We didn't even know Trevon wasn't playing until we saw him with a boot on. We figured it was a lost cause at that point but boy were we wrong!

On Wisconsin!

Wes also had an amazing dunk against Marquette in the Field House - must have been year before or year after then.  Another win.  Happened to cross paths with a young UW assistant after that game as he was going to do the post-game radio show. Bo Ryan, I think the name was.

RE: Your Top 5 Favorite Games All Time

The obvious ones for me have already been stated...Texas, Duke, OSU, Banner game, but for me personally it is the 2000 home game against Knight and Indiana still to this day the last game I have attended at the Kohl. For those who don't recall the game, we were down about 9 or so points and struggling all game to get any points against their D. But the Badger D was so phenomenal down the stretch and really shut the Hoosiers down. The crowd would roar after each defensive stop and then groan after another missed shot on the other end. Ultimately they hit a few and Bobby went nuts and threw his clipboard to the ground, this in a game like a week after he had a hunting incident and many in the crowd were wearing orange to mock him.

I knew after that game that the team was locked in, and if they had enough offense to get to 60, they could beat anyone (well ok, not MSU...)

12. 01-16-05 vs. Michigan State 62-59

Badgers Score Last 11 Points of Game in Final 2 Minutes, Extend Home Streak to 38 Games

The best part about his, in my opinion, is what happened during a timeout near the end of the game.

The badgers were down 8, I think, and I can't recall if it was the under 4 timeout of if Bo had called one.

Either way.

They start playing Hoosiers on the jumbo-tron, during Hackman's locker-room speech, and he starts to clap.

Clap.  Clap.  Clap.

Then the entire place starts clapping.

Clap.  Clap.  Clap.

Now the entire Kohl Center is in a frenzy.

Clap.  Clap.  Clap.

The rest is history, but I'm 100% sure that we won that game because of that timeout.

Now, you listen to me, I'm Mephistopheles, Prince of Darkness! When I start harassing you, you'll know it!
