Announcers
Dakich is an absolute stud. He should be coaching somewhere, his insight is amazing. Tirico otoh is TERRIBLE - adds NOTHING to the telecast. BOTH teams playing great D and he comes out of a TO taking shots at UW.  The guy is the worst!!! |

I can't decide if this is tongue in cheek?? I find Dakich insufferable. Every time the telecast starts and he's there I cringe.

Dakich isn't great but give me him over Doris Bird (sp?), Dick Vitale, or some of the other bones who get thrown on TV. I'll take Shonn Morris or Mike Kelly on the B10 over most of the crew ESPN has working

Big miss - if you know BB, you know how good his insight is - on virtually every aspect of the game. He's as good as it gets right now - Tirico otoh, TERRIBLE!!! |

He usually gripes about the refs and how every hand check should be allowed because "it's the B10", but he's generally very good. He hasn't coached in 5 years now, probably because he realizes he has a pretty sweet gig.

i did not agree with him on the ref's tho. at the end there were two or three calls that in simple justice should have gone wis way...ravenel out of bounds, the bumping of berg out of bounds. didn't lose the game,but still...

I think you are referring to Doris Burke. Doris Burke and Brooke Weisbrod are better than most of the male color commentators at ESPN. If nothing else both of them are willing to see UW for what it is rather than what it isn't. |

Dakich always complains about officials and usually looks stupid doing it.
Tonight was the opposite. He was praising the refs for calling a wonderful game right after they blew the call of the OSU player stepping on the line with the Badgers down only 6.

Some of these remarks are incredible. Dan Dakich is as good as it gets as a BB analyst. Also, I have always believed Tirico to be a very solid and interesting professional. Sometimes I think people like Tirico are spread a little too thin. These guys can't be experts in every sport they are asked to do play-by-play. But it's the Dakich issue that really throws me. If you don't like Dan, what on earth are you looking for in a color man?

I like the contrast between Tirico and Dakich. Dakich has a big personality, which would be annoying if he was wrong a lot, but he's almost always right, and he gets excited about the right things, which is refreshing.
Tirico is a perfectionist, and is good at his job. He balances out Dakich's off the cuff hyperactivity pretty well.

Dakich called out that missed call. Either that or I'm hallucinating. Dakich calls it like he sees it, both good and bad on officiating. |

I don't like these guys. Tirico doesn't seem to know much about the Badgers and doesn't care to know much. I have always felt Dakich is only really interested in Indiana basketball. Sure, he know basketball, he coached for 23 years! They often drone on about topics unrelated to the game. Yuk! I wish I just set my home up so I can listen to the radio. Unfortunately it is out of sinc with my TV.

Dakich is pretty damn good if you ask me. For those who do not like him, who do you like? Dick Vitale? Brent Musburger?
(FYI, just looked up Brent on Wikipedia. His full name is Brent Woody Musburger. His parents' names were Cec and Beryl.)

I think Dakich is really good. I think the funny thing is that when Dakich was at BTN the overwhelming opinion of him here was very high. I think it's changed for some people since he's gone to ESPN.

Name me three really good commentators period. I would contend that all sports commentators make the game less enjoyable for truly knowledgeable fans. The only commentator I've truly enjoyed over the last 30 years was Steve Stone doing Cubs games when I was just starting to develop an affinity for baseball. Really, the only time I even notice the commentators anymore is when they say something blatantly stupid or get a call completely wrong...which is typically several times a game. Along with the general fan atmosphere, having no commentators drivel on for the entire game is one of the truly great joys of attending live sporting events.
