Who took most shots vs MSU?
Dont need this to turn into a hate Ryan Evans thread, because IMO he does a lot of good on the floor.
Shooting isnt one of them. Being a focal point on offense isnt one of them.
And being the leader in shots taken in a game where we scored 47 point SURE as heck isnt one of them.
So again, not a hate Ryan Evan thread. But can we please discuss on a serious level why he is the leader in shots per game on average? Is this not an actual coaching error, god forbid I go there?

Re: Who took most shots vs MSU?
This team is by far the worst Bo has ever had in terms of players knowing/accepting their role on the court. Evans hoists way to often. Bruiser rides the emotional roller coaster in games. Berg has shot very poorly in the B1G. Consistency is not there!!

It's the type of shots...and usually going to the rim and getting more FTs is an advantage, but not so much this year...

Re: Who took most shots vs MSU?
my Ryan Evans related question. On MSU's last defensive possession with a 2 pt lead and 10ish seconds left, would you have considered intentionally fouling Evans if he got the ball? Put him on the line shooting 2. Worst case scenario for MSU is he makes both (roughly 1/8 chance based on his current shooting percentage) and they get the ball back with time on clock and timeouts tied.
I would've done it as I think the odds were better there than letting anybody else get off a clean shot.

RE: Who took most shots vs MSU?
I don't understand why Jackson doesn't pull up and shoot from the elbow once in a while instead of driving all the way in and either winging up a wild shot or getting it blocked.
The other bad thing is that the other players don't move well without the ball. Someone like Brust should be working off screens and looking for a shot and they don't seem to be very effective at it.
It seems as if dekker has a better sense for the game and passes better than most. He really should play more, but bruesewitz was playing well tonight, he was about the only one.

Re: Who took most shots vs MSU?
Evans thinks he's Lebron James on offense and will just keep throwing up shots no matter how many he misses.
Bo keeps him in the game because of his defense and great rebounding.

Ryan Evans has shot 29 more shots than anyone else on the team. Unbelievable.

Jackson is a bad shooter. That is just the brutal truth. He made a huge shot against Indiana, but really he is a bad shooter. He has the worst FG% of anyone who gets PT by a long shot. Even the Indiana game he only shot 33% from the field, 0-2 from three point range, and only 2 assists with a couple of terrible turnovers. There is no reason he should be the starting PG over Marshall, IMO.

Not sure why it is taking many of you this long to figure out Ryan Evans. The only big difference this year with him is free throws. He has always been very inefficient overall. This year is just historically bad with the free throws.
Luckily for Ryan Evans, he has another guy who is taking some of the heat off him. Jackson is now shooting 33% on the year. Ouch.

Re: Who took most shots vs MSU?
As much as I hate the NBA, this isn't entirely correct. Evans thinks he's LeBron of the early years in his career. Where he thought he was a good distance shooter and jacked up shots that only guys like MJ, Kobe, and Durant should shoot. LeBron was disciplined enough to learn as he progressed in the game. He realized that he wasn't utilizing his talents correctly. Be it all the criticizing he took or his coaching, he learned aggression with his size and ball handling was his best course of action. Evans seems to be missing out on both. Obviously the criticism has been there the last 2 years, but hasn't the coaching staff also pushed him to bring his game within 10 feet??? It may be one of the most mind boggling, yet frustrating things I've ever seen in basketball. How is this staff letting him get away with these shots. Bo pulls guys left and right after they take ONE bad shot, and for Evans its like he's almost encouraged. It really does make me scratch my head (among other things) when I watch these shots and I don't see any reprimand. How can you coach this guy for all these years and yet us fans watching can see it plain as day. This isn't one of those things either where fans are a little biased or looking through tinted glasses, this really boils down to a shot that is flat and with no finesse. He needs to be a face up 10 feet in or a post-up smaller 3-type of player. Until UW realizes this, amongst the other issue of settling for too many 3s, this team will always be prone to 5-8 minute FG droughts sconnie232 wrote: Evans thinks he's Lebron James on offense and will just keep throwing up shots no matter how many he misses.

Re: Who took most shots vs MSU?
He may get good shots, but he doesn't make nearly enough of them. Not nearly enough of them. At some point it's a trend. Best he stick to d,rebounding and getting "garbage"baskets. He can't be a focal point of a successful or even decent offense. I like Evans a lot,but he is really shooting too much.

redforeman62 wrote: Because he is able to find good shots. Having a hard time thinking of a poor shot by him tonight. Define good shots? To me, a good shot is a shot that you can make efficiently. An open shot doesn't make it a good shot. What about the fadeaway 18 footer he took tonight. Before last game, he was "0 for infinity" on those shots.
What about the one where he tried driving the lane into 2 MSU defenders, threw up a prayer and got rejected?
What about the 3 pointer in the 1st half he took with a lot of time left on the shot clock?
Also, those long 2 point shots are the least efficient shot in basketball. You have to make a high percentage of them to make it worth it. Evans certainly doesn't.
You have continually blindly defended his offense. You are starting to remind me of BBfran.

Re: Who took most shots vs MSU?
Evans takes a lot of 15 to 18 foot jump shots. You have to shoot really well from there to make it worth your while-no and-1's, worth 2 not 3. Having your highest usage player combine a lot of those shots with truly horrid free throw shooting is not a recipe for success.
That said, I thought Berggren really cost us tonight. Only 5 attempts from 2(making just two). This team desperately needed some post point tonight and Berggren gave us little there and the free throws were absolutely crushing.

Krabbenhoft only averaged 3 less ppg...despite way less possessions used.

Dawson sent that jump hook back like a volleyball spike. The early three that others have complained about never had a chance as it came out of his palm and he was on his way down when he shot. Evans struggles outside of his comfort zone and that was the case tonight.

Re: Who took most shots vs MSU?
A 1st grader could watch Evans play and figure out how often he misses..pretty sure I don't need to sit up all night to figure that out how inefficient he is.
There is a pretty big difference between leading the team in possessions used (which he currently does) and "stop shooting". I would think a logical argument would be for him to 1st take less shots...instead you want him to take more. Another logical argument would be to not hang onto the ball for 5 seconds everytime he touches the ball.
The goal of an offense is to score as many points per possession as possible. You don't do that by taking a lot of inefficent shots.

I don't think he needs to have 30 more fg attempts than everyone else. That is a little ridiculous. Again,I am not a Evans hater. He does plenty of good. But damn,at some point their is a reason you are always open.

So you would rather he continues to catch, pump fake, jab step, head fake, jab step, pump fake, than brick th fifteen footer? I'm all for him catching and shooting the 15 footer in rhythm, but you have to admit his shot selection is terrible. --------------------------------------------- --- redforeman62 wrote: mkm13 wrote:

Aside from the inefficiency converting possessions to points, his poor passing is even more troubling to me. I'm not so sure defenses are playing him honest - but what does seem pretty clear that's difficult on his teammates is his inability or unwillingness to pass them the ball when they've worked hard to get themselves open.

--------------------------------------------- Actually, apparently he cannot admit that, considering that throughout this thread all he has done is try and justify Evans' shot selection. Dude just throws up bricks. Bricks with no prayers. He isn't a shooter. I question if he's even a basketball player. Sure he has defense. Hell, he has GREAT defense sometimes. But he can't dribble, shoot, make FTs, not real athletic, can't drive the lane, can't post up, and generally doesn't have a great feel for the game on the offensive end. Basketball is a 2 way street. You don't sub in a whole new squad on defense. He needs to contribute on both ends of the floor to be considered a value. He is more of a liability now.
Led by coach Gary Andersen, it is mathematically impossible for the Wisconsin Badgers not to win a National Championship
