Wow, ridiculous offer sheet. Welcome aboard!

Can someone explain how a guy with offers from Alabama, Clemson, Ohio St, etc. etc. is a three star? Does someone with that kind of offer sheet normally fall below the 4 star level? Just curious.

Kid looks great as ILB.  I am not saying the next Borland but he does wear 44 in HS.   Just Saying.  Lets hope we keep him for signing day.  Still wants to take visits to other schools.
I think I went to UW.... I have the diploma!!!

Great get. Interestingly, comes from the same high school as Sean Taylor.

The fact that he plans to visit other schools says to me that Badger fans shouldn't get too excited.

One of those schools includes Wisconsin.  Only provides the staff/school more of an opportunity for him to reaffirm his commitment.

Assuming he's an academic qualifier, odds are much better that he'll land in Madison than elsewhere.

Physically impressive as all get out (not sure of the competition, but man he looked big on film) and I'm thrilled he'll be a Badger.

But I can't imagine any way he plays inside.

Engage the good posters, ignore the bad, report as inappropriate the problems. Message board rules. Thanks.

Wow, that is some great work landing this guy by Coach Beatty.  Whether he plays inside or outside, he looks like he could contribute very early on at UW, good stuff.

Welcome aboard!

Sheppard will have a chance to compete early for playing time.  Hopefully the staff keeps "recruiting" him despite the verbal.

Just my opinion - I'm just another idiot message board poster, I've been both embarrassingly wrong & dead on the money about such things before.

Looks to me like he plays too high & is more of a ball chaser. Bigger, stronger, faster works at that level, but at the next, to play inside you've gotta be able to read a play more than anything else (especially off ball keys) because there's just not enough makeup time.

Not meant to be a criticism of the guy as a player - only of his fit at ILB in college. Looks like he could be a great OLB.

I still can't get over how much bigger he looks than his listed 6'1"  210.

I also think he plays to high and that he looks like a Biegel replacement myself.  But of course some of that can be coached.  Just curious.

Re: Dominic Sheppard, OLB from Miami commits

According to B5Q, he was impressed with Wisconsin's academics and wants to study engineering. It seems to me that kids looking for a good academic environment, especially those working toward a tough discipline like engineering, would probably not be a qualifier risk.

Re: Dominic Sheppard, OLB from Miami commits

It probably has to do with the fact that college recruiters aren't likely to care about star rankings.  I tend to assume that the offer list means more than the number of stars a prospect has because the coaches are the ones that really know how good a kid is.  No offense meant to the recruiting analysts!

Impressive offer sheet, impressive physical stats., and smart too.
Very fortunate to have him commit to Wisconsin.

Exactly Ph3431, and inasmuch as he wants to major in engineering he also probably has good smarts and that even more indicates that he doesn't have any academic deficiencies.  Great get and great starting size if the 6-1, 225lbs is accurate, and welcome aboard Mr. Sheppard.  Go Badgers!

I noticed the same thing in film and agree that technique is something that can be coached and I assume he has limited time at ILB (profile says he played mostly DE).  I bet this seasons film will looked smoother in terms of technique if he plays ILB...not sure what the teams plans are for him.  He sure looks rangy though...I have to imagine 6'2" 225lbs is closer than 6'1" 210lbs.

Re: Dominic Sheppard, OLB from Miami commits

With the DC preferring more 3-4 fronts, the more LBs we bring in, the better.   I'd guess that this staff will be recruiting OLBs(3 commits so far) and ILBs(1 commit so far) right up to signing day in Feb.  Yeah, a few MAY flip to other schools or fail to qualify but the coaches will protect themselves w/quantity.  That's where the roster attrition over the summer helps.  It gives GA and staff some extra scholarships to offer.
