Re: Nate Howard

The "Sleeper" awakens.  Looks like a great get . . . but no stars (so this really stinks, right  eek1)

Great job by staff to get such a quality young man from a good FB area.

Welcome to the UW, Nate!

Go Badgers!  On Wisconsin!

I'm aslo noticing most of his tackles happen on the offenses side of the ball which is very encouraging and something I know GA really looks for

Re: Nate Howard

He indeed was offered by Oklahoma ( a school that scours Missouri for talent).  I have close family in St. Louis and know the area pretty good.  the west county schools (Ladue area, Kirkwood, chesterfield, etc is the St. Louis metro equivalent to the Brookfield, Waukesha division in Wisconsin, but with a lot more DIV 1 talent. In a word, this longer, faster version of Rohan Blackwood is a steal!

The fact this kid is a sleeper is more a condemnation on media coverage and how it favors the "sexy" high schools across the nation.  But there is a lot of top-tier talent that still goes unnoticed by the media, dependent upon their location.  Hence the low star ratings.

A lot of fans on this board go by star-rating, but as Coach Andersen once stated, he doesn't care about how many stars the kid has, if he's a player that makes plays and plays fast, then he can earn a schollie to UW.  it seems we are beginning to reap some dividends from this philosophy.  And I agree with it wholeheartedly.

Seems like a conservative ranking.   I think he'll be a 4 star come signing day.

It's higher than a current DE commit Bama has.

It also would seem to quell the nonsense about being 'frustrated' by these sleeper prospects.

Perhaps, the coaches are better at this than the recruiting services...and certainly the chuckleheads here.

That will depend on his skill development. From a speed/size/athleticism standpoint, Nate is a rare specimen. From a technical standpoint, he is still raw. Depending on how refined his game becomes in the next 9 months, he could conceivably climb into the top 100.

Yeah, I'd agree with that. From the video, you can see that he's a bit raw but he's certainly got the tools and the desire. He doesn't give up on the play regardless of where is, what it is.

This kid indeed has some potential but he's no Rowan Blackwood in terms of speed and quickness and the competition?

Could develop into a 4 star player (hopefully this fall)r but no, he's NOT a 4 star recruit off that film.

I love how so many are glad these kids have few "stars" and few offers.

Sure some will develop but this staff is taking what it can get right now, not walking from the top players because they found these under the radar gems.

Hell the WR ran 4.76 at a Sparq camp and the last 10 years I keep hearing that these receivers we bring in with few offers and 4.7 speed are so great and most crash and burn.
That kid can catch, looks like a WR but his film doesn't show that the SPARQ number is a mistake, he's just not very fast.

Madden, now that's a great get.

Yeah! aj, our coaches suck, know nothing about the game, can't care less about winning and are only here to pick up a quick buck. You are soooooooooooo much smarter, seen so much more, are far more knowledgeable on both sides of the ball, and have spent sooooo much more time getting to know the recruit, and his game. It's amazing how great you are. When you going to go into the coaching profession?

Uh, you said that not me.
They're taking what they can get right now, I'm satisfied but if you want to jerk yourself off about how great these recruits are, be my guest.
The WR probably won't play for 4 years if ever, he took the offer because it was the best Academic offer available and he isn't playing NFL.

I'm very happy with the 3 OL's, real BADGER OL'S, that's a win.

Love the QB and TE, both wins.

This DL has some potential and the two LInebackers have some potential too but WISCONSIN is their best offers.
Same deal with the DB'S, UW is the best offers an we need TEXAS badly going forward.

Overall, not a terrible class so far, just don't make these guys great gets by a brilliant staff, they have no other choices.

They offered a million kids and these kids with practically no other offers were the best they could get.

The kid Duke Shelly said, "Not much competition at this camp."

Re: Nate Howard

I'm confused by guys like you.  This was one of the best recruiting weekends we've had since I've started following recruiting (2006).  We got a bunch of quality kids too, not a bunch of chumps.  Going by 247 our class is ranked 2nd in the Big Ten and 16th overall.  If you look at the five commits we've gotten since Thursday they are all 3 star are better.  Howard and Madden have 4 star rankings.  The tapes on these kids are great as well.  I have no idea why you wouldn't be excited about these kids.  Howard was offered by OU and Madden had a ton of offers.  Hell Lee has offers from Fresno and WSU which are both big time passing offenses on the west coast.  It's not like those weren't good options for him.

This is the first class the staff has had a full year plus to recruit.  I'm guessing our recruiting will get even better from here.  Simply put, this staff is recruiting their tails off and it's paying off.  I have no idea why you would think they shouldn't get credit for that.  Let's not forget Andersen and his staff coached and recruited 15 kids from USU that ended up playing in the league.  That's pretty damn impressive when you consider USU.  They find and coach up talent.

Re: Nate Howard

You're a slave to the ratings....and Howard is rated higher than Blackwood. One recruiting analyst stated explicitly that he's a better prospect than Blackwood. And the coaches apparently love the kid.

You're just not very good at this.

Perhaps?  That's why coaches who are good at recruiting AND identifying talent: (1) win; and (2) get paid the big bucks.  There's a reason services are evaluating talent and nothing more.

This is a kid that Ill & Mizzou would normally be all over.  He really fits the size/speed areas that both schools really like in their DL

Could see him playing at 250-260 in a couple of years.
A strange situation,
A wild occupation,
Living my life,

Who cares who is recruiting who, the coaches get paid a lot of money to figure this all out.  Some of you guys are the same dam ones that complain "Why didn't we sign that guy" after they had an excellent college career somewhere else.  You need to trust the coaches and let them go through the process and get the job done.  Maybe they will fall on their faces or maybe they won't that what's fun about sports for me is the journey on getting to the top.  I have been watching this journey since the early 70's, back then I would never have dreamed of the Badgers going to the Rose Bowl.  The National Championship maybe someday, but it's fun to watch the journey.  Enjoy the journey and watch the captain and his crew do their job!

Actually the complainers are excellent source of entertainment because some their logic to me is pretty funny.

aj, that is just foolish talk. NO WAY the staff is taking what they can get this early in the process. Only way they offer a kid and take him this early is if they really want him OR its conditional on a spot being open.
