Excellent news! Sam's a monster, especially in the run game. Now we just need Shelley, Stringer, and maybe a few others to jump on this wave of momentum.
Sure...I'll take a look.

That would be a great pickup if true. I do worry though. I hope he's big enough and has enough stars to pacify some here.  wink

Yea, the people here who would like the recruits that LSU, Alabama  get are total idiots.

I didn't see anyone complaining about Pennington & Kafentzis.

Seems to me the FANS just want UW to compete at  the same level as other top 10-15 programs with solid academics.

I give them another pass this recruiting period anyway, the shift from the Northeast to the Midwest, South and West will take some time.

This kid is a relationship kid (Moffit's nephew) from NJ but by in large it's going to be very tough to get coveted players out of NJ/NY/Conn/Penn?Maryland?Ohio as the years move on and BAdgers are a WESTERN team.

Awesome O-line prospects shaping up with this group.

He is big enough unknown, Dietzen and Moorman too.

Like the way this staff works. Slim pickings in Wisconsin this year so they cast a very wide net.

They're still building relationships with HS's, but meanwhile they're picking up commitments.

Mirrors what GA did at USU. This is a bigger stage, but hard work, integrity, and relationships lead to success in recruiting, regardless of the school.

Now where is unknownfan81?????

Aren't you supposed to come in here and post his "other offers" list?? Oh yeah its like 20 high end programs so you probably didn't want to!! Lame lame lame dude.

Always knew he was a fraud from his first few annoying posts.

Anyway.. Welcome aboard Madden!! Big time prospect and big time recruit!!

Lefty, it's not that we think you are idiots for wanting LSU, Bama "type" recruits... you're just not being realistic.  We will NEVER land a 5-star kid out of Alabama or Lousiana unless there's a massive earthquake and Wisconsin ends up on the border of one of those states.

Here's the deal... there are two factors that RULE in recruiting:

1) Location

2) "Sexiness" of a school

We lose out on both of those areas to most Top 25 teams because we're not in the South West, or NE, and most people still think the Badgers are a plodding "3-yards and a cloud of dust" team (even though Gordon led the nation in 60+ and 70+ yard runs). We're not Oregon with their flashy unis, we're not USC with their multiple (vacated) MNC's, etc.

So, you keep hoping for those blue-chippers from LSU-land... but it ain't going to happen in your (or my) lifetime.  noidea

Re: Sam Madden commits to Wisconsin

Welcome aboard Sam. Great pickup for the program.

On a side note regarding recruiting.....

Our program is at it's peak for national exposure with 3 recent Rose Bowl appearances, Russell winning superbowl, Watt dominating the NFL, Montee Heisman candidate, tons of players drafted and on NFL rosters, new facilities, etc. There is no reason we shouldn't be pulling all 3 and 4 star recruits.

That's why the recent surge of offers and commitments from unranked and 2 star players is very concerning. Seems to me like the coaches feel we need to go the "sleeper" route in order to compete. I won't go as far as writing these kids off, but they will have to GREATLY outperform their recruiting ranking to make any type of impact and keep us competitive with the top 25 programs. And honestly I don't mind taking some chances on 2 star guys......but not this early. This isn't good for the program or the conference. Just ensures OSU will continue to dominate, and we'll continue to lose to PAC 12 and SEC teams in bowl games.

I don't think you know what you're talking about.  You don't have a clue!

I guess that shouldn't be much of a surprise,  coming from a basketball only school.

Definitely not a "Don Morton" type recruit! Position of need, recruited from the State of New Jersey which has been a very good recruiting area for the Badger program the past 15 years, had offers from schools we could one day play in a BCS major Bowl game.
Welcome aboard! Good job GA & staff.

It's really odd, Alum. Barry's teams have been successful, BBs as well, but neither were able to get the recruits guys like aj expect us to get. You would think that would tell them a little something but year in and year out it is the same old $hit, our recruits aren't good enough for them. I don't remember Ball being a 4 star, or Gordon. I don't remember Touscher, or Leonard, or Borland, or Birk. Or Abby, Armstrong, Hemer, and Pedersen. Geez, somebody must have juiced their Gatoraide.

Re: Sam Madden commits to Wisconsin

Thanks, liked this in particular:

"As effective as he's been, Sam's had to overcome a couple injuries the last two years, and he played through them. But he's gotten all that stuff cleaned up, and I'm excited to see the best of Sam Madden. Because I don't think anyone has seen it yet. He's a very athletic big man. The kid is a perfectionist. He works really hard because he's afraid to fail. He's obsessive compulsive about doing things the right way, and I like that."  – Barnegat head coach Rob Davis

WELCOME ABOARD, SAM!  Great school, campus, program, coaching staff..

(BTW, I heard Alabama and a few others had not offered for fear of losing a recruit to the Badgers! tongue )

Offers from South Carolina, Miami (Fla.), Wisconsin, Virginia Tech, Nebraska, West Virginia, Boston College, Virginia, Syracuse, Pitt, Iowa, Tulane, Temple and Kansas, to name a few.

Now isn't it nice to see a commit with more than one or two offers? tongue

At this point, I am willing to give Coach Anderson the benefit of the doubt. I recall a bright September day a few years ago when his low to no star Utah State team  came into CR and almost pulled off the upset.  Frankly, his team deserved to win that day.

Thanks. After just a few plays I started thinking "Joe Thomas". This kid already is bigger than JT, and has that ability to get to the second level. Great find.

Dad is smart: "I told (Sam) that there might be a school that's not as big a name as an Alabama but specializes in the offensive line...Wisconsin is an O-Line factory.”

And, he's a Jersey Boy. biggrin

Welcome aboard! Good job GA & staff.
In the last 17 classes (1999-present) Wisconsin has gotten commits from a total of 12 players from NJ. One never got on campus, another transferred out, 4 sat on the bench, one hasn't got on campus yet, and 5 were (or appear to be) good contributors. Those are Davis, Pressley, Graham, Cassillas, and Clement.

At 1 contributor every 3+ classes, to say that NJ has been a very good recruiting area is a bit of a stretch. It is an area we need to keep recruiting though.

Excluding the guy that never made it to campus or the guy who hasn't even stepped foot on campus yet,  5 out of 10 is not bad at all...

I only could find info to 1999 on Scout AND Badgermaniac's old sight. Still my point is that if people think that lately we've been getting a lot of players out of NJ, they are wrong. We get one every so often as 1+ every 2 years would indicate. OR if you like ONE GOOD CONTRIBUTOR every 3 years

I'm satisifed with the recruitting, this is the best they can do and they are building in Texas, Cal and hopefully the South.

Just saying this big group of new verbals are nothing to get overly excited about, some decent prospects but no big 'wins" IMO except Madden.

BAdgers were better set up in the leaders division, you guys didn't like it  there but now it's start over with Texas & Cal and less likeyhood you develop MAryland or Virginia along with Penn/Conn/NJ/NY/Ohio.
Next time don't lose to mediocre PSU teams and kill off any BUZZ surrounding your new COach and  program.
