Nico Pierre

Posted: 5/29/2013 1:32 PM

Nico Pierre

Nico Pierre is a 6'1", 201 lb strong armed, duel threat quarterback from Coral Reef Senior High in Miami, FL. Given the events of this week, he now sits alone atop the UW quarterback board. Andy Ludwig personally evaluated him earlier this month and extended an offer shortly thereafter.

Nico is ranked as a four star prospect by ESPN and a three star prospect by Scout, Rivals, and 24/7. He claims offers from Clemson, Duke, Florida Atlantic, Florida International, Kansas State, Louisville, Marshall, Nebraska, South Florida, and Wisconsin as well as several others from the FCS level. At the Miami Nike Combine this January, Nico posted a 4.82 40 yard dash, a 4.50 20 yard shuttle, and a 34.3 inch vertical jump en route to scoring the third highest SPARQ ranking at the event, a 95.61.

As a junior, Nico led the Coral Reef Barracudas to a 6-4 record and third place finish in District 16. His sophomore and junior highlights can be seen here.
Sure...I'll take a look.

Re: Nico Pierre

I like this kid a lot (of course, based on just highlight video). Seems to have a live arm and good escapability.

It will be interesting to watch how they pursue him, and if they offer Gillins, Wilkins, McMarion, etc...

Re: Nico Pierre

Nico is my new preferred QB recruit, over all the others we missed out on before him. And if we miss out on Nico, then the next highest rated guy is my preferred QB recruit. tongue

No - seriously, I'd just like for us get a high quality QB in each class. It seems like we've struggled getting high quality QB recruits, with consistency, over the last decade and I don't see a reasonable reason for that.

Once you get into the high 3 stars and on up, if you get a QB that fits your system well, it's really a crap shoot between them all. The stars are no guarantee.

I didn't realize that gathering information from a variety of sources and coalescing it into one easy-to-read and informative thread about our top quarterback prospect was considered trolling. I offer my apologies.

That being said, if you would like to engage in discussion about your evaluation of Pierre, rumors you may have heard about his recruitment or what you think UW's chances are with him, this would be a great place to do that.
Sure...I'll take a look.

If UW is truly out of it for Kizer (and it certainly seems that way) I would have to believe another scholarship offer will be coming out this week. From what I've heard, the smart money is on Gillins.

I hate shadows, but you're way off here.

This is not a shadows-like thread by any means.

As for Pierre.. looks like a solid prospect for sure. Maybe not what everyone was hoping for but I think he could translate to a productive QB.

XRayBadger did nothing wrong.  He just put together some information that was available to anyone.

RE: Nico Pierre

Pierre's highlight film plays far better than his list of offers might indicate. He shows plus arm strength as well as the ability to take something off when he needs to finesse the ball into tighter windows. Pierre keeps the ball high and stays active in the pocket while he scans the field. The upper half of his throwing motion is more refined than most of the duel threat quarterbacks I've seen; his wind up is short, his arm swings over the top, and his release generates a consistent spiral. The lower half of his throwing motion, like virtually all duel threat quarterbacks, is a work in progress. Pierre sets his feet well but has a tendency to throw off his back foot, instead of driving through the throwing motion. When he wants to throw the fastball, he gets out over his front foot, again relying on his arm, rather than his lower body, to generate velocity. Ultimately, this robs Pierre of additional zip and decreases his accuracy. Pierre is fast enough to be a weapon with his feet but doesn't appear to possess superior top end speed or elusiveness. At the next level, his athleticism projects to be much more Russell Wilson than Denard Robinson. In all, Pierre looks like a pass-first quarterback who has the skills to hurt you in a variety of ways. Although his offers suggest that he is a sleeper, Pierre definitely has star potential.
Sure...I'll take a look.

Re: Nico Pierre

While it is probably getting close to time for shadows to bring on a new screen name thinking he'll fool us, Xray's work in this thread doesn't look like what I've seen from shadows.

Everybody have fun tonight everybody Wang Chung tonight.

Re: Nico Pierre

In one layman's opinion...I actually like Pierre the best out of all the QBs offered (including Allen).

That said, I was really happy to see Gillins offered...I think he's our best bet to land in Madison.

Xray does not have the obvious agenda of shadows.

Re: Nico Pierre

Agreed.  Like his pocket awareness.  He seems to move to avoid the rush but can get out of the pocket and pick up yards when they are there.  I wonder if he thinks the glaciers have yet to recede in WI.

Nebraska landed Zach Darlington today. Hopefully, Pierre can cross Nebraska off his list.

Both are good but Pierre appears to have better touch at this point and Gillins is much faster.
