GA's Monday Presser

Posted: 9/1/2014 1:02 PM

GA's Monday Presser

Pretty much said the trainers informed him at half that Melvin had a hip flexer!

It must be difficult being one of the beat writers. How do you ask GA why it seemed like no plays were called in the second half that would play to your QB's strengths?

Re: GA's Monday Press

I think this speaks volumes about GA

Limited a Heisman type player who IMO, was "screaming" to play more in 2nd half:)
Think this might help our recruiting when mom and dad find out about how much GA cares!?

Even more proud of this program as uw does it the right way

So the trainers told him he had a hip flexer during the game but when asked about it Saturday night he said it was the OC's decision?  Lights need to be a little brighter here during press conferences than they were in Logan

Re: GA's Monday Presser

Then he says "i don't know" after the game? Is he stupid?

He made it pretty clear he doesn't think it's anyone's business to discuss player injuries and the only reason he's talked about it now is because he was told to (by who?). Think he said it was Brown's decision too limit him after that long run - where it was obvious he slowed up because of the hip issue.

Well he's not the only coach that feels that way.

Re: GA's Monday Presser

Didn't say he was, but the way he handled it was extraordinarily naive.

Re: GA's Monday Presser

Then Andersen could have just said that he can't discuss any injuries instead he lied and said he didn't know.
Now he admits he knew had halftime.
Sounds like he is trying to cover up for his incompetence.

This isn't Logan anymore Gary. Click your heels.

Did he decline to discuss Zag/Herring injuries after the game? How do we know Zags was hurt and not a very convincing sit in against the Sudan genocide?

No problem irrationally singling out the offensive line to blame after the game but saying Melvin had an injury situation that limited him would be crossing some moral line.

Re: GA's Monday Presser

The asinine, convoluted and hypocritical logic of football coaches.

Between this and the McEvoy/Stave saga the past few weeks I have no reason or desire to believe a word he says.

That's fine. You'll need to win then, Gary.

How does it help recruiting and the program if he allows an injured player to return to the field and that player then suffers a season ending injury? Every competitor I've ever coached thinks he can play through the pain. Sometimes as a coach you have to save an athlete from himself. I'm sure Gordon was pissed. I'd expect no less from him, but there's no way a healthly Gordon gets reeled in from behind on his first run of the second half. I'd rather lose the game and have Gordon for the whole year than to beat LSU and lose him to an injury. It's not like his backup is a useless bag o'crap.

Re: GA's Monday Presser

Well, you won't win any browny points with many posters on here by telling the truth. Never mind that Andersen admitted to lying in his press conference after the game because "it was nobody's business" and " I had to listen to the trainer". Us Badger fans are not worthy of being told the truth at a press conference.
The only serious question some around here want to ask him:
"Isn't it wonderful that we were so competitive against a superior SEC team?"
LOL
You just won't convince some fools.

Re: GA's Monday Presser

If Gordon was injured, then the decision was fine. You don't play injured players.

The issue I have his how tone def Andersen is with regards to how he distributes his information. If you're up front about the injury, it saves you 48-hours of basically every talking head in America questioning your coaching ability. PERCEPTION MATTERS!

The question was asked about Gordon, so you respond "he had a hip flexor injury". Done. It's not that hard.

It boggles my mind that Andersen consistently withholds mundane information in exchange for making himself look like a paranoid fool.

I hate to quote BB when dealing with the media (because he broke his own rule many times), but "just tell the truth and you never have to remember what lies you told to who".

Re: GA's Monday Press

Why was Gordon only allowed to play on 2 passing downs once it was revealed he was dinged to ga?

Re: GA's Monday Press

I think the better question is if what GA claims is true, why was he playing at all?  He was handed the ball in the fourth quarter as well.  So, he had to listen to the trainers and he was hurt, but not that hurt? GA knows which plays/downs he might get hurt on and only decided to play him on those..... Yeah, none of this makes any sense.

Re: GA's Monday Presser

I thought the way MG ended his long run was odd.  You could tell that he was going to be caught but players are usually coached to keep running hard and get all the yardage you can.  Sometimes the defender dives and misses.  MG almost completely stopped and tried to push the LSU DB outside and past him.

I also wouldn't be surprised to see MG limited this week w/a bye the following week.  Get it fully healed now!
CC and T. Deal should get ready for a lot of carries.

Re: GA's Monday Presser

I'm not satisfied by what we were given here.

1) You DIDN'T think it was important to tell us that Gordon was limited by a trainer who said he had a hip flexor issue? Despite the fact that everyone on the team (including Gordon) kept saying "Gordon is fine"? You told us you "didn't know why Gordon only got a few carries", when now you're saying you clearly did - you just didn't want to tell anyone at the time. This isn't Utah State anymore GA - this is the BIG stage. You disclose injuries when they happen so that people can trust you. Now you just look suspicious.

2) Apparently we only passed poorly "in the fourth quarter"...yeah, sure. And Bret Bielema only eats 1 piece of chicken when you invite him over for a barbeque. We passed poorly the whole game, and it was clear to everyone. Still no discussion of why Stave wasn't ever brought into the game despite being listed as a co-starter last week. Or perhaps he was suffering from an undisclosed injury too...

3) No admission of poor offensive play calling, though that isn't really surprising considering coaches rarely bash on other coaches.

4) Still no apology to the o-line for supposedly being responsible for Tanner's poor play. Again, not too surprised he didn't bring this up publically, though I hope he did privately to the o-line. That was uncalled for.

GA better hope McEvoy pans out, because if he rides him all season and he doesn't develop, Badger fans are going to be livid.

Re: GA's Monday Presser

Guess I'll need to watch the Monday morning follies direct because it appears the "scenario" at half-time that Andersen mentioned didn't keep Gordon from opening the 3rd quarter with his longest run of the night.  Btw, the DB would have caught Gordon on Mel's best moment.

Which is cool.  Nothing about Gordon in that run suggested he was injured.  He just looked like a guy that realized he wasn't going to outrun that DB.  Happened and it'll happen again before he's through.  If hurt, though, why did he carry later and pass-block?

Nah.  Andersen has transitioned from "careful" and "thoughtful" to "evasive" and "obtuse".  Happens when you don't have full control of the situation created from choices that can't be clearly explained.

Re: GA's Monday Presser

Remember? He did say something to someone after the game, there was a tweet going around

“There was a little bit of a scenario with Melvin Gordon being completely ready to go at half time, but he came out on his own, and he seemed to be okay.”

So he had to be so effing cryptic? And not just say his health status was questionable in the 2nd half?

This is just stupid. Hope this was all worth your stubbornness gary.

Re: GA's Monday Presser

Also when GA addressed it in the press conference today he seemed positively agitated and that someone had told him to do it.  Who?  And he still doesnt get it?
