Brock DeCicco and Bryce Gilbert's new school

Brock is now playing for this third college program and brought Gilbert along with him.

IUP=Indiana University of Pennsylvania, I believe they are a D2 program.

Doesn't have to sit out a year.  Probably gets to play a ton

Re: Brock DeCicco and Bryce Gilbert's new school

He would be post-grad and sitting out would not be necessary ala Russell Wilson/DOB if BG would have found a D1 school that was interested.

Educationally - I am not sure why they would want to pursue graduate studies at IUP.  Bryce's undergraduate major was history and DeCicco's major (according to his Pitt bio) was Social Sciences.

Or didn't buy in to the new coaching staff.

Again let me remind you Jeet Kune Do is just a name used, a boat to get one across, and once across it is to be discarded and not to be carried on one's back - Bruce Lee.

Degrees from certain schools only get you an interview.  Obviously UW plays strong in MKE, madison ,Chicago but who cares as once you are in the door?  if a big ten grad goes to a Fla, texas, North carolina, new Mexico, colorado type growth area?

pretty sure its neutrals at best...............................

In the private sector? only as good as your last quarter/perf review/EPS.......................

That's the thing that get's me.  I've interviewed for a lot of jobs and the vast majority of them don't care where you got your degree, just that you have one.  Sure if you are looking towards executive level jobs it may matter, but for the vast majority of us just having a degree is beneficial.

He would have played a lot [maybe not a "ton" but.... a lot.] for THE UW this year.
Something else must have happened..........

Re: Brock DeCicco and Bryce Gilbert's new school

I'm confused... did DeCicco every officially quit? I figured he just graduated since we somewhat used him as a blocker last year, so he should have been in the mix this year.

Gilbert was not a huge fan of the coaching change.

Confused as well as I didn't hear a peep concerning DeCicco.

I thought Decicco's eligibility had run out?????

He did get royally screwed here though, I believe he expected to and wanted to play for Chryst and then Chyrst ended up at Pitt where he left.

Was a 4 star player who never got a shot at UW because we had players here just as good ahead of him, probably thinks he can get an NFL look with a better resume if he really does have eligibility left.

Yeah, there was never anything about DeCicco.  TGP, it's all your fault. How did you miss that one?

This.  He was described in the media as a 5th year senior last year.  I'm not aware that he missed multiple seasons due to injury or anything.

Re: Brock DeCicco and Bryce Gilbert's new school

2009 - Redshirt
2010 - Played at Pitt
2011 - Sat out at UW
2012 - Played at UW
2013 - Played at UW

So he obviously must have gone through some kind of appeal. I presume it was based on only playing 3 years and likely graduating from UW.

That being said, if he new he could play; I would have taken him as a blocking TE at UW. Arneson looks good, but everything after that is unproven (although they look just fine).

Obviously, the coaching staff disagreed and had him "graduate"... which is fine... he really wasn't a great fit at UW.

Re: Brock DeCicco and Bryce Gilbert's new school

Sounds like the two roommates have cooked this decision together.  You wouldn't expect IU-P to be place a Midwestern kid would have high on his list, but DeCicco is from nearby.  It's not unlikely DeCicco knew someone on that relatively new staff, a player, or had some connection to IU-P.  When Gilbert's apparent disenchantment led to him to transfer, they picked IU-P.  That staff is taking a number of D-1 transfers, so you could also expect Gilbert & DeCicco had a pretty strong indication of their places in the IU-P line-up, come Fall, 2014.

So, two guys frustrated with their situations decided to go where they could at least play a lot, probably start, and maybe be a part of a play-off.   It's a sport, an athlete wants to play on game day, preferably a lot on game day.  Maybe they both light it up and get an NFL sniff.

Hope it works out well for them both.

Enumerated powers are necessarily limited because, as Chief Justice John Marshall said, “the enumeration presupposes something not enumerated.”

You couldn't be more wrong. Wisconsin is recognized as a top academic school wherever you go. I've lived in 9 states. It is not "neutral at best."

David Gilbert - from Florida - transferred & played at Miami last year. Bryce Gilbert is from Brookfield.

We hire from all over, we don't care where you got your undergrad as some kids have strong eq vs high end iq, hence why they don't get accepted into " known schools" sometimes, they just have to work harder,

Do you work in private industry Bacchus? Spend your money on grad school and go to grad school after proving you can make it in real world for a few years post undergrad

IMO yet many who have touted certain schools etc find out very quickly that publicly traded companies care much more about what you do after u get hired vs what yiu did in your undergrad years

Re: Brock DeCicco and Bryce Gilbert's new school

Take classes in emotional intelligence, many
"Executives" are tested on their respective competences in eq to see if they are ready to lead.

Again, the good ole boy/girl system can help early on but overall? More companies see the entire package vs who you know or whether you to a name school or a lesser known one

Let's hope this trend continues as hiring the wrong execs can lead to massive turnover and failed execution of strategic and business plans/objectives

Gilbert was a two-gapper.  This season our D-linemen are going to be moving on the snap.  Makes sense for him to get more PT.  Wish both of them well.

What are you asking me? Do I work in private industry? Yes. I am president of a $1B division of a Fortune 500 business and have worked in 3 other Fortune 200 companies.

Where you go for undergrad does matter. I never said it wax the only thing.

Would they be on scholarship here?

Are they on scholarship there?

DeCicco is close to home, so I see it for him. Don't know where Gilbert is from.

My nephew is the cross country coach at Indiana (PA),  I'll have to ask him about Gilbert and DeCicco next time I talk to him.  Like many top D2 programs, their roster is littered with D1 transfers.  DeCicco is understandable.  IUP is an hour from Pittsburgh. But Gilbert?

I have to agree with Bacchus on this one.  We are also a Fortune 500 company.  There are a lot of good schools in NC and VA, so unsurprisingly we get a lot of employees from the local ACC schools as well as other local universities.  However, even though we border three SEC states and zero B1G states, we have far more B1G alums than SEC alums (by a wide margin - several times as many).  Obviously, the most important thing is the individual, but we seem to get a lot more good individuals from good schools - hardly surprising since students with high potential will tend to be attracted to top level schools.

Re: Brock DeCicco and Bryce Gilbert's new school

It absolutely depends on the job.  I look at every resume of people my direct reports hire and we all look at their undergrad institutions.  It's an indicator of success if you graduate from a competitive school and do well.

It's certainly a factor if you plan to apply for graduate school elsewhere (MBA, law school, etc...)
