Don't count Vonte Jackson out yet

Anyone see Ben's tweet?

Thoughts?  Could be huge news if true--though it is hard to believe.

That's good to hear. So talented coming out of high school, but has had a few setbacks. I really hope he is able to contribute during his career.

Re: Don't count Vonte Jackson out yet

I believe he can be added to the depth chart, with a chance for some game reps, why not?

He would have been an outstanding RB, but i suppose his cutting days are over, and one more low hit might end his career.   So with him playing DB he will have the opportunity to continue to get healty, and who knows maybe start someday.

Both Jackson and Brookins are great stories of kids with a high desire to succeed against all odds.
All we can do is wish them all the best.

I'm just hoping he makes it out of camp injury free.  Pads haven't been put on yet, right?

Agree.  Hard not to pull a little more for the guys who fight through that stuff. It's incredible really, that Curt Phillips ended up playing in a Rose Bowl after all he went through. What will Vonte's legacy be?

They went with shoulder pads today. Full pads are the fifth day, unless they've changed the rules.

Jackson, Gordon, Trae Waynes and Joe Keels were all on the same high school team back in 2010 (along w another lesser D1 qb Gino Debartolo)... Bradford was my school as well, so maybe I am biased, but is this the most talent to come from 1 school in wisconsin history? Or maybe last 20 years? Interesting, they didn't win state until 2011 when gordon (and waynes??) was gone and jackson was out with his 1st torn acl.

Not sure, but I do know some of those Oak Creek teams of yester-year had quite the talent on them.

Good for him

Bo Ryan's offense is officially dead and has been figured out by the B1G. The only way he can continue to coach it is if he significantly upgrades the players.-George2k5

Heartland Arrowheads team from last year was stacked just as much if not more so. Just not at the skill positions.

Jackson, Gordon and Waynes were on the same 4x100. Gordon and Waynes being potential 1st rounders and probably at minimum 2nd rounders.

To me these comments have a strong stench of "positive reinforcement for a great kid who has had a tough time, that may not be all that true".

I hope I'm wrong and Vonte Jackson has a huge year for us. That doesn't seem realistic to me, when you look at his competition in the defensive backfield.

I'm afraid I agree with Eric.  Because of some positive articles, I was questioning if Phillips shouldn't be starting over Stave last year.  The bowl game proved me 100% wrong.  And it is probably slightly more doable to overcome that string of injuries as a quarterback vs. a safety.

Unfortunately, you are probably correct about Vonte Jackson.  It's too bad for the young man.  I know that there were some coaches in the SE conference that thought he had more potential as an all around RB than Melvin Gordon.  KNEES!!!

We have experienced a rather sudden depth depletion at RB.

From the subsequent tweets the injury may not be serious.

Hoping for good news for Vonte.  Was really hoping to see him in a UW uniform this year.  Seems like a great kid, and has earned that chance.

Re: Don't count Vonte Jackson out yet

After scrimmage news conference GA indicated Vonte would be back working at both tailback and safety. I guess we don't know if his knees will really hold up but his setback was classified "minor". All Badger fans are pulling for you Vonte. You have great perseverence and hopefully that translates beyond football to whatever you choose to do in life

As a general rule... when they work you at both, plan on actually playing neither.

Man, this kid has terrible luck. He must have something wrong with his knees that they fail so badly on him.

I hope he comes through this, but doesn't look good. Hard to take any serious reps at RB. He was a monster in HS, better than Gordon at the same time.

Guessing his PT could/should be on special teams. As EtheR noted, not likely to play much at FS/SS or TB.
Hoping he can contribute on the field to make all the rehab work worth the efforts.

Are you basing this opinion on something or is this just urban legend?

Except for first half of the first game, Jackson missed his entire Senior senior.  During his Junior season (Gordon's Senior season), Gordon was the featured back and Jackson missed some time due to injury, including missing the entire state semifinal game when Bradford lost to Joe Schobert's Waukesha West team.  As I recall, Jackson was injury prone prior to the first major knee injury, and I don't recall anyone thinking he was more talented than Gordon.

I do remember reading that some believed he was more talented than Gordon at one point.

I'm basing this on watching the games. Live.

Gordon was always ahead of him, but Jackson as a Junior was way ahead of Gordon as a junior. Yes, injuries have been an issue.
