And, leave it to Stephen A. Smith to blame the victims for 'their part' in domestic violence.

Racist comments in a private conversation = Lifetime ban
Steroids in NFL = 4-game ban
Knocking a woman unconscious = 2-game ban

Nice job, hypocrites....I mean, public watchdogs.

Why do you have to politicize this and make it about so-called "public watchdogs?" This is about the decisionmaking of the NFL and its Commissioner, period. You don'thave to massage every event into a narrative that supports your ideology and then broadcast it on a college sports board.

A) Were you confused about the title of this thread and thought it was about Ray Rice at Rutgers?

B) Because the inconsist application of 'outrage' is both hilarious and sickening at the same time.

You had no problem expanding the Sandusky topic to hammer the PSU culture....yet it's offensive for me to offer a critique on today's culture in this country? Got it.

Any word on whether LeBron will be boycotting the Browns/Ravens games this year?

Additionally, I guess Urban Meyer critics can set their sites on an even softer group of disciplinarians (NFL/Ravens Organization)? Hyde got 3 games for 'slapping' a woman and Rice got just 2 for knocking her unconscious.

It is pretty ridiculous.  Okay, that's an understatement.

don't forget trading your personal possesions for tattoos and then leaving college early to escape NCAA penalties.... 5 game suspension by the NFL.

violation of ncaa amateurism rules is apparently more criminal to the NFL than domestic battery

It was a DB move, but I'm not even sure why the NFL has the ability to take away his pay here.

Because around the time Goodell took over (in 2006), the NFLPA agreed to the implementation of a personal conduct policy.

That policy allows for the actions taken in this case.
"Nobody has defended (Ray) Rice. TGP and PH are trying to perpetuate a myth. They don't have a reading comprehension problem. They are simply idiots." - Kowitzc on 7/31/14 during a debate about domestic violence.

Apples and oranges, my friend.

I spoke specifically to PSU's culture focusing narrowly on the facts involved in that case and that culture. You, on the other hand, mold seemingly endless topics on this board to the same strained conclusion to support a political ideology, and it's tired.

We get it: you don't like the "nanny state," the "PC police," blah, blah blah.

Re: OT: Ray Rice suspended 2 games for knocking wife out cold

I'm not supporting any political ideology.

I'm pointing out how ridiculously inconsistent 'outrage' is applied in this country....and how that 'outrage' often carries no real impact (as it comes in words/twitter/internet comments and not actions).

It really applies to anyone demanding Sterling's ban, applauding Silver's actions....and then letting the NFL, Ravens, and Rice just pass on by.

The stark contrast between the penalties handled down to Sterling and Rice (and the 'outrage') would be unthinkable...if only it didn't happen so often.

So we shouldn't be outraged because there are many other instances worthy of making us outraged?

Re: OT: Ray Rice suspended 2 games for knocking wife out cold

The inconsist application of the 'outrage' is the comical/sickening part.

That and the fact that most of it is just lip service anyway.

The worst part is probably the haphazard penalties that are often doled out...seemingly to appease the 'outraged.'

Oh stop.. he was saying if its not OK to hit a women, women don't need to be provoking men into hitting them. Its embarrassing that people have a problem with what he said, women are not so innocent in these cases as society wants us to believe. Is it ok for guys to hit women? NO! but its not ok for women to put their hands on a man either, which apparently she did.

Stop it. You can't be serious.

Is it okay for a child to hit an adult. No. It happens....but I doubt knocking a kid unconscious is an acceptable 'teaching movement.'

This isn't some frail dude....he's a fcking NFL player. If she has an object/weapon, fine. But of course, she didn't.

First of all not every guy is built like an NFL player so is it ok for a frail dude to hit a women if she is bigger than him? Its not a question of right or wrong, obviously most guys know hitting a women is wrong. We are all humans and get angry and things happen in the heat of the moment and provoked. What SAS was saying is for women not to put themselves in that position, because guess what? If you get in a guys face or hit them they might retaliate.

It's true....like an infant that 'puts himself' in the situation to get shaken to death.

I guess it's understandable....as long as she provoked him it's fine.

Does that apply to rape as well? The girl gets the guy all worked up and then says stop?

2 games? Urban Meyer approves.

Re: OT: Ray Rice suspended 2 games for knocking wife out cold

Which is one of the points I was making. Meyer is often hammered for being soft on discipline...yet Hyde was suspended 3 games for a slap compared to 2 for Rice for knocking a woman unconscious.

Perhaps, it's just easier to vilify Meyer...but there doesn't seem to be the same vitriol for Goodell/Harbaugh/Ravens/NFL.
