So it's going on a year since the incident? Methinks this was swept neatly under the rug.

Do you have a credible news source? I've got couple of doozys from the Onion that would hold about the same amount of validity for me as this article would.

He'd fit right in with the Marquette football team, if they existed.

Did you read the article? The victim said the suspect was 5'11" max and Winston is 6'4". Raises a big red flag for me.

A sentence later, it says they confirmed with law enforcement that the suspect is Jameis.

In any case, the height thing is weird.

TMZ is very credible. I beleive they are the people that broke and invesigated the Suzy Favor Hamilton story.

Eye witness descriptions are not all that reliable in most cases.

You don't print something like that unless it's rock solid. TMZ is ridiculous, but smart enough to know that.

Sexual assault/rape is both the most under-reported crime and the most falsely reported crime.  One should not jump to any conclusions either way.

This story is now being reported by ESPN. No charges as yet.

What is most interesting was the FSU open board.  There was no thread similar to this one.  One person did post at 9:15 p.m. EST about the allegation.  That was it.

True.  My only point was that the story about the charges was probably accurate.

RE: Trouble for FSU QB

I have a few huge problems with this story:

1.) It does not take 11 months for something to "conveniently" show up right before Heisman voting.
2.) Winston does not even come close to the described suspect and he still hasn't been charged with anything.
3.) The police have never question Jameis about this, either back in December 2012 or recently.
4.) Heavy drinking and the nature of the crime makes this very hard to prove or disprove. Good for slander, though.
5.) TMZ does not always report with high journalistic standards.

I honestly could not manufacture a better smear story if I tried, but if this is true, wow.

I'm guessing it was dug up and leaked by Urban Meyer to distract FSU down the stretch or by Johnny Manziel's agent for Heisman purposes. LOL

Now more Q's as to why no investigation.

Reading the comments to these stories (yahoo, esn, etc.)is bizarre. I have never read comments like these on a rape claim on non athletes. I have no idea what happened or who was guilty. I'm however always amazed by how so many have their moral compass flipped by one's ability to throw a ball.

Yes, there are a number of huge problems with the story, but not two which you listed below.

That is a negative reflection on the Tallahassee PD more than anything else

2.) Winston does not even come close to the described suspect and he still hasn't been charged with anything.
3.) The police have never question Jameis about this, either back in December 2012 or recently.

Because Winston refused to speak with the police either back in December 2012 or recently.

4.) Heavy drinking and the nature of the crime makes this very hard to prove or disprove. Good for slander, though.
5.) TMZ does not always report with high journalistic standards.

If they did a rape kit, the fact they haven't completely cleared Winston is a very bad sign for him. It means they have physical evidence of sexual contact.

But, they have to sort through whether there was consent.

They might not have finished processing the kit yet. Just because it's collected doesn't mean it's processed or even used in all cases.

ESPN just reported his DNA is matched to the victim and the cops pressured the girl into not pressing charges.  Things are looking worse and worse for him.  Feel bad for the young lady.

DEVELOPING: DNA report connects Florida St. QB Jameis Winston to accuser. This does not prove a crime was committed. (via @Mark_Schlabach)

All the comments on the original article were to the effect of, "it says 5'11 and he's 6'4, obviously it wasn't him.". Now the same people are commenting, "it was consensual, nothing to see here.". Again, I never see comments like this in stories of people accused of rape, unless they are famous. If he couldn't throw a ball accurately people will generally side with the accuser, if the accused can throw a ball accurately many will side with the accused. I don't know what happened here but it's crazy how people can change their view of something so serious as rape over someone's ability to throw a ball.

The thing that's disturbing is how the police tried to get the accuser to lay off. Despicable.

Re: Trouble for FSU QB

This is the thing.  None of us can determine innocence or guilt of the young man but I can say that how the case was managed appears shameful.  His DNA should have been sought sooner and this thing should have been completely investigated promptly.
Sadly it doesn't surprise me a potential crime may have been covered up, the Penn State case should wake all of us up to this kind of thing.

Incredibly, incredibly disturbing.  Sadly, there have been rumblings that Tallahassee police have turned a blind-eye to a lot of misconduct by athletes over the years.
