Abby to NFL??

Posted: 1/4/2013 12:39 PM

Abby to NFL??

Rumored on TOS.  Might make sense for him. Why get beat to crap for free--nothing left to prove in college. Married-time to get paid to get knocked around so much. Huge potential loss.

As of 30 minutes ago, his family said he was staying in school.

I find him leaving early very difficult to believe.

I wonder where these rumors are coming from.  To me, this seems odd.

Re: Abby to NFL??

A little over 40 yards receiving per game and no tuchdowns over the final eight games of the season would speak volumes to a potential NFL team.  He should stay in school and try to overcome a very mediocre 2012 season.

Yes, and to graduate, if he hasn't already. He will need that degree sooner than later.

I would be amazed if he projected anywhere above round 5.  Very little certainty at that level of making a team.

Spot on.

Abby is darn good. Numbers were not in his favor due to Qb and other receiver issues.

He was our MVP early in the season.

Don't see it.  He can only benefit from what's sure to be improved QB play next year, along with all the rest of the returning O.

Re: Abby to NFL??

Abby is set to graduate, is married, has a dog, and will likely be around the 10th ranked WR. That would put him around the 3rd round.

Re: Abby to NFL??

He will be back, he might grade out as a 4-5th rnder, if he comes back and has a good year with Stave or Houston he will be a 2nd-3rd rnder

Bo Ryan's offense is officially dead and has been figured out by the B1G. The only way he can continue to coach it is if he significantly upgrades the players.-George2k5

Re: Abby to NFL??

One site has him as the 10 ranked wr receiver , and another mock draft site does not have him at all so who knows.  I just don't seem him a top 64 player for college seniors and juniors coming out.  Now granted you go to college to get a job (and thus leaving early makes sense if your in the top 2 rounds, perhaps even 3 rounds).  Add in that he is married and if he will graduate this June, perhaps so.  However, if you think you can improve your stock or if the position is likely weaker next year, you wait.

If he goes out, I think it costs him money.

Well since he has a dog, then yes I can see him coming out, that makes total sense now crazy

Re: Abby to NFL??

Abbrederis is good

I don't see Abrederis being a player in the NFL and only comparing that to the other receivers UW has put in the NFL

Abrederis' numbers will not dramatically change next year if they do not throw more AND get a second receiver and Pederson more involved to take away some of the focus.

My point is that no matter what he does next year he will get drafted in the same spot as he would this year.  he is not going to improve or drop his draft position.

His choice is do you want to be a star for one more year and then collect a paycheck or collect a paycheck now and be the 5th WR on an NFL team and just practice.

Either way I see him collecting an NFL paycheck as a bench/role player for about 3-4 years possibly so what does it matter if you leave early.

The only risk is a blown knee

Also has good return skills which NFL teams value. Decker is doing very well in NFL. Abby is as good as Decker I think.

Re: Abby to NFL??

In my opinion as much as I hate to say it I think Decker is/was better and I just don't see Abbrederis being a returner in the NFL.

At best I seem him as 3rd down possession type receiver.  Can he routinely make the plays over the middle.

Re: Abby to NFL??

If I were an NFL GM I would be concerned with his physical stature.  He has an incredible lack of muscle mass for a guy who has been in the program as long as he has.  Does he skip out on the summer lifting program?  He's 6'2" 188 lbs., which is about 20+ pounds lighter than the average WR drafted last year, and much lighter than any drafted WR over 6' tall.  And since none of those guys carry any fat, the difference is all muscle.  The only guys lighter than him were like 5'9".  He does a great job getting open and his stats look pretty good but he gives you very little in the yards after contact department, especially in the NFL, and he will get split in two by NFL safeties.  It's not a finesse position anymore.

Can't see him going earlier than the 4th round.  Why come out early for that?

Re: Abby to NFL??

GM's and coaches know that his decline in numbers were due to our QB situation.  If he can get a invite to the combine he will catch the eye of some teams.  Who's to say next year we don't have another QB go down?  Would love to keep him but it's something that he has to weigh...

RE: Abby to NFL??

He would be a good Pats WR, as his blocking, IQ, and route running seems solid. Also, doesn't appear to have too big an ego.

I don't disagree but there are quite a few guys like that available in the 6th and 7th rounds and on practice squads

I think it would be a terrible, terrible mistake for Abby to go early. He needs to get bigger and this draft class is absolutely loaded with talented receivers.

Dude is listed at 6'2", 188 with a non-combine 40 of 4.6. Not exactly elite NFL talent that can get paid right now guaranteed.

Chances he gets much bigger faster this year are near zero. Chances he gets hurt again >>0  Graduating this year. Do the math.

Math says there is no guarantee Abby makes an NFL roster, let alone gets drafted in the mid-rounds (will not be drafted higher, that's a certainty).

And if he's 180lbs as a junior, he certainly can get bigger.

Ridiculous for him to go now.

He is a good kid, hard worker, but to go early makes no sense, to me.

Look what he did this year when defenses concentrated on him. Just don't see it.

No guarantee about next year draft either. Might as well get started and if it does not work out he still has a degree and life ahead. Does not appear like the body type to gain much more weight. Why should he wait another year? Not likely to improve draft level, more chance to get badly hurt for nothing, new staff coming in often hard on seniors to adapt to that change.
