My first thought is this as well, not real excited but if this is the guy we will see what he can do. there will be pressure to win immediately and hopefully not lose the majority of the recruiting class.

Gary Andersen was the coach that talked to Barry 5 minutes after Fat Boy resigned. This would be a home run! One of his sons is a redshirt Soph on the team. He also has twins that are seniors in Logan. Was the D cord and asst head coach at Utah when they Piss Pounded Saban and Bama. Went to a terrible Utah St. Team after that season. Now four years later his team is better than Utah. (Beat Utah this year) I was fortunate enough to be on the visitor sidelines this year during the Utah St. Game. His staff was totally into it during the game. They had quite the swagger going. IMO this would be huge! Makes $750,000 a year and his staff is very under paid! Outstanding football coach and a great hire by Barry IF TRUE!

Honestly, ESPN never reported a front runner and they were dead ON.

I am concerned that with all of the assistants departing that the new staff won't have any recruiting ins at any of the places we have recently focused.  That said, from everything I have read (and this isn't just since the supposed hire) he is a tremendous recruiter.

If true, it's an outstanding choice. He's very well thought of in the coaching community. A great hire.

He will have to find a different offensive coordinator and time will tell if he can recruit on this level....this isn't Utah. You seem excited he would be bringing in a staff with zero Midwest recruiting connections, I find that bizarre.

Who cares what other coaches think about him.

He has a subpar record with one good year in a crappy, crappy conference. He has never been outside the state of Utah in his career. No midwest connections. Limited recruiting capability. Current staff is not that impressive.

Bobby Knight loved Steve Yoder when he was at Indiana, couldn't understand why UW fired him......How many kids Andersen is able to retain from this recruiting class will speak volumes. I hope he doesn't bring his entire staff with him.

The offer wasn't given out until this afternoon. So I am sure he was given permission to give out the offer and it was accepted.

Thats because he was at Utah St..... As soon as he puts on a jacket with the "W" on it he can get the attention of better recruits as soon as he walks into a highschool. Every coach has to work thier way up. More props to him. He is a solid defensive coach that is walking into a great situation!

They won 9 games in 4 years before he got there.

How about bringing Rudy back as the OC...maybe Barry already has that aligned???

Other coaches actually know the game quite well, so their opinions tend to be highly credible. I'll trust their judgments, as well as that of BA.

The fact he was at Utah State is a concern, all Utah all the time. the jacket with the W doesn't wash, coaches and schools relate to those they feel most comfortable with it will be very interesting to see what those first couple classes look like.

If true,he better get some assistants who recruit the midwest,northeast and south Florida.

He is a really good coach. He worked wonders at Utah State. And as Utah DC, he was a huge part of that undefeated run and one of the more impressive victories of the BCS era, and decisive win over Alabama in the 2009 Sugar Bowl. With Bama's ensuing dominance, that ages like a fine wine.
