BA: One more interview to go

BA: One more interview to go

If you go to the BadgerNation front page you will see a link to an Insider story on the coaching search.  You don't even need to open it to get the gist.  It says BA is asking fans to  stop going into panic mode.  He has one more interview to conduct this week before making an offer.

Can we dare hope that the panic-struck will calm down for just a few days now?

Re: BA: One more interview to go

It's expected for Badger fans to panic, because lets be honest we are not used to this whole process.  At the end of the day I have a feeling that a couple weeks into next season people will have forgotten all about the panic they are feeling right now.

I already flipped over a car and set an effigy of each coach that has reportedly turned down the job on fire.

He also essentially admitted he struckout in the 1 st round. Not good for a supposedly big-time $1million AD. He either mis-judged the market or his contacts. Now on to plan B. Hopefully he finds one before Plan C.

What did you expect him to say? Of course he's going to say not to panic. It's PR.

Right, he's the first ever AD to interview a coach for a job who ended up working elsewhere.

How many people turned down the Michigan job before Hoke took it?

+1   Thank weballin....less than 200 posts but you clearly showed a season poster his absolute near sighted failure. I agree with you, things happen. BA is not dumb. He is under immense stress right now. He will do the right thing. Some people expect the heavens with no sacrifice.

He also said he couldn't have hired somebody if he wanted to...before the end of this week.

While I disagree with 911 about 90% of the time what has he said here that is wrong.  During his press conference BA came across with a level of confidence that bordered on arrogance when he talked about wanting to hire a current head coach, having been with a candidate he was interested in shortly after the news from BB and gloating that he needed no help with the search, other schools came to him when they wanted advice on hiring coaches.

He may still get a great hire out of this but unless you beleive that  for some reason he felt compelled to lie about what he was looking for as opposed to just saying nothing then the original plan appears to have taken a turn.  Nothing wrong with that, it happens all the time (it's how Wisconsin ended up with Bo) but I do beleive that Plan A blew up quicky (or was perhaps mashed like an Idaho potato)

A. UW is not Michigan. They can win with any decent competent coach.
B. Hoke was hired within about a WEEK of RR's firing.
C. 1, Les Miles. Harbaugh was always going Pro.

What BA actually said in answer to a direct question about his short list was that some of those he wanted to talk with already had been taken.  From this 911 concludes that Plan A "blew up" and we're on to Plan B.  Really?  Perhaps 911 knows what Plan A was, in which case he should share that knowledge with us.  Otherwise it's merely his usual schtick:  all negative all the time.

I doubt people will have forgotten. The anticipation level will be very similar to starting this year with a new set of 6 coaches. It did not go all that great in the first few games.

After UMASS and Tennessee Tech, we better be feeling pretty good.

So, your hypothesis is that Brandon was surprised by his own firing of RR?  Cuz if he had been planning to do that it's likely he was searching for a replacement a lot longer than one week.

Yes that was a funny post by 911.  The Michigan fans were in a panic before they hired Hoke. Everyone knew RR was gone even before he got killed in the Gator bowl or whatever bowl it was.  Hoke was announced I think January 9, but the big hire was Greg Mattison.  That's why I'm thinking Tucker is the new DC not the HC.

If they were already "taken" it was not much of a list. Was it? I have a list right here--oh, they already took new jobs, damn.  Is Mel Tucker still around??

Just read on YardBarker that Chilly is interested in the job.  Maybe he's the last interview.

He said some people he would have talked to were not available because they had taken other jobs before Bielema quit.  You call this striking out?

I don't know what's going on behind the scenes, but your criticisms strike me as full of ****.

Edit:  **** means s h i t.

It would be very confusing to have a list of candidates that you want to talk to that have already taken jobs before your head coach quits.

Don't you see the irony in this?

I don't know what irony he sees, but he's the reality that I wouldn't be surprised with:

Barry has his short list.  On it are some guys he would like to hire, but the timing and other factors at their current jobs makes them unwilling to leave at this point (maybe Chryst, Golden, more...).  Also on it are guys he has been keeping his eye on, but who got grabbed before Bielema left and are unwilling to make the John L Smith move and jump immediately to a better offer.  And that's not mentioning coaches who Barry would like to hire but are comfortable where they are or aren't interested for other reasons.

The fact is that we don't know who is on the list, what order they are in, or who Barry has contacted.  We know a COUPLE of the people Barry has approached.  We don't know all of them, nor do we know how badly Barry wanted anyone.

I'm sure the panic by some people over here is pretty amusing for someone visiting from, say, a Minnesota board.  But it's unnecessary, unproductive, and frankly annoying.

Barry said right away, basically, "don't worry, I have my short list." He had somebody in his hotel room within 10 minutes of BB telling him he's leaving.

Yet, he then comes out and says that those on his short list had taken jobs BEFORE BB took the job at Arkansas. What kind of short list contains names of people that have already just taken jobs before your HC gives notice? Why were those names on his list?

RE: BA: One more interview to go

whether or not petersen, chryst, golden, riley, et al were ever offered, the national perception is that they all turned barry down. add the frustration of UW assistants who were asked to "wait and see" when they have a sure job in arkansas/nc state in the other hand and this has not been a smooth transition in any sense.

I think the business has changed a lot and things seem to have taken alvarez by surprise, starting with BB's departure and continuing through this search process.
