A new President is Elected in France! His announced programs?

The newly elected President of France is Hollande. . Guess what his promised programs for France Are?

                           Stimulus Packages

                           Higher Taxes on the "Rich"

Does this have a familiar ring ?  Have I heard this from a source closer to home?
By the way,  I spell the president's name ::  Obamah.   If you don't like it,
tough luck.. For me, it works, By the bye, Hollande is a Socialist.

The German insistence on austerity is failing. Sarkozy's defeat just confirms it. A number of European governments have levels of debt that they will not be able to grow out of, especially with one size fits all austerity measures strangling their economies. Hollande is an indication of the failure of current constricted fiscal policy, which can't/wont work in a number of European countries.

Sailor:  How many failures of socialism does it take ?  If you know of one successful
socialist economy, reveal it.  Sweden, maybe-don't know?  Socialism  always requires a police -state because to enforce  re-distribution, you have to confiscate the "excessive wealth" accumulated by some. The successful tend to flee before it does the taking.    There is no incentive to work or labor in a  truly socialist economy. Everybody is on the dole, so to speak..  Germany, has not failed. It seems to be the exemplar of success in Europe, France will collapse like an old  accordion within six months. Book it.

Heard an interview with a french citizen on the radio news this am.  The guy listed things he was concerned about with the new president, socialism being one of them.  Believe it or not, the guy supported Hollande in the election.  I don't know much about Sarkozy other than the salacious stuff, but he must have been widely disliked.  These are the type elections where radicals root their way in - when the in party or candidate is so generally disliked that it doesn't seem to matter how bad the other candidate is.  That happened here in '08 as well and we will be paying for it for decades.

79: Good observation.  Sarkosy went down on personal dislike.  My prediction: in six months Hollande won't look too good to the frogs.

Koobs, first of all I don't like socialism, and I probably have more personal reason to dislike socialism than any other poster on any of these Wake boards. As a whole socialism has been mostly a huge failure. On the other hand, some economic policies traditionally advocated by socialists have been successfully adapted to basically capitalist economies. I don't think this election was about socialism as such, and although I know little about Hollande, I doubt that he can graft too many more socialist elements onto the existing French economy. The election was about "not Sarkozy, and not German mandated austerity." Instead, many economistrs are urging greater emphasis on job creation and growth, rather than only constricting, stagnating austerity.

What the Germans have done is good for Germany, and what they are advocating for the rest of Europe is good for German banks and German investors but not so good for significant numbers of people in a number of European countries. In a number of European countries the level of government borrowing is so great that austerity programs alone, without assistence for growth (which will inevitably involve inflation) will not be enough for economic recovery. Under current conditions they can't/wont recover.

Economic policies and theories are not chisled in stone like the Ten Commandments. Different policies and approaches are required for different situations. We can argue about which policy is right for which situation, and reasonable people can disagree, but there is no "one size fits all" when it comes to economic policy..

Re: A new President is Elected in France! His announced

The N.Y. Times today after the French election wrote an editorial saying :\

" With the victory  of Socialist candidate, Francois Hollande in  the
French  presidential election the White House.. has gained an ally with
economic policy belief more closely aligned to its own."

Let's quit mincing words: Obamah is a socialist, pure and simple.  People confessed not to know it in 2008, and some of them  are even in denial today.  The  Times is  the leftist  mouthpiece,  so their word ought to hold weight with its flock.. It took them a long time to broach  the truth., now they have.  Never mind  though,  'cause  as they say in Halifax County : " The sun don' shine up the same dog's a_ _ ever day".

In lieu of neg rep, why not present a substantive argument to rebut the statement?

Because that would be a waste of time and energy. Taking even a quick look at any of the threads on this board started or featuring contributions from Koobs indicates he is a troll doing his best impression of a right wing bobknightfan mixed with some Keeper.

I just really don't understand how when you look at Europe and its coming collapse and then look at the US and how we are happily and willingly going down the same path that they chose. You are in a deep hole and it is getting deeper each day. You have a plan to get out and the tool you choose is a shovel. I'm going to get out of this hole by digging it deeper and deeper and deeper.  I have a home loan and a car payment and a second car payment and thousands of dollars in credit card debt. I can't pay these back. So guess what I am going to do? I am going to buy two more houses and two more cars. I am going to apply for 10 more credit cards and max these out on things I can't pay for. Now I guess I'll get a pay day loan to help get me through this month. Maybe I can borrow some more money from that Native American girl on TV to pay some back at 80% interest. I mean I really want all of this stuff and me and my family have to have it. And besides, I am sure everything will turn out ok. It always has. I'm sure I can save some money sometime. I am sure I will come into some money sometime 10,20,30 years down the road. It will all be fine. Quit worrying. THIS JUST CRAZY! People have to be able to see this is going to be a disaster some where down the road.

You could demand your employer give you a raise because he's making more than you and that just isn't fair.

For those on the board with a bent toward envy of the "haves",  I do not 'suffer" with excessive comfort and am not "burdened" with excessive wealth.
