Kevin Sousa

I realize he is not playing. Anyone know why he is not even dressing out?

RE: Kevin Sousa

I think he is injured. I believe that's what Grobe said last Thursday night on his show. . .

Injured, and more than likely transferring after the season.

Re: Kevin Sousa

Injured, that would make sense. Potential transfer can't be too surprised I guess. Had like many others high hopes for him coming in.

Any info, beyond speculation, about a possible xfer? I would hope he would seek another way to get playing time.

Re: Kevin Sousa

If he transfers and sits a year he will only have one season of eligibility left.  Seems like it would be hard to find a school that would take him under those circumstances.  He isn't exactly Russell Wilson.

Re: Kevin Sousa

I have been told by someone close to the program - a parent of a player - that his best chance of playing football would be to transfer to a lower division school where he would play QB and play immediately. At QB at Wake, he simply was not accurate with his throws.  The other guys were just better. He tried to play receiver at the beginning of the year but he did not do well enough to beat anyone out at the receiver position.  He just could not catch up to the other receivers with the plays and other requirements for playing receiver.

Re: Kevin Sousa

exactly wakedeac, he can transfer to an FCS school and play immediately. He wants to play QB and he might not get the chance to do that here at Wake, where he can go to an FCS school and start from day one. Theses guys all work to hard to just sit on the sideline for 4-5 years to just never see the field. Some kids just like being on the team and it may not bother them as much not playing as others. You got to remember this kid was a pretty big get for us, and it hasn't panned out in anyway for Kevin, or Wake. Wake tried, and tried to develop him as a QB an it didn't workout, so the coaches even tried to move him to receiver and that didn't workout. Kevin has tried hard as well to do everything that the coaches have asked him to do to become better, it's just one of those situations that it just hasn't worked out. I have always believed that the kids welfare comes first, and even though I love Kevin I know how important it is for him to play football and for that reason I think he should transfer to an FCS school so he could play while he can, I wouldn't have any hard feelings Kevin if he chooses this path.

Re: Kevin Sousa

what about a double TE set? him and bishop. Could be intriguing.

Yet another example of a recruit we get all excited about who is destined to be nothing more than a name on the roster.   noidea

Re: Kevin Sousa

lovedemdeacs  understand what your are saying, but these other guys that are true TE'S that are on the waiting list for playing time would probably go ahead of Kevin.

1. Brandon O'neil-FS
2. Cam Serigne-FS
3. Anthony Rook-FS
4. Daniel Vogelsang-RSJR
5  Zac Gordon-Fs

Yet we couldn't even develop him enough to have any shot of playing QB for us. ohlord

Given the accuracy issues of our other QBs, it is indeed disappointing that he could not even surmount that low bar..

Re: Kevin Sousa

Besides his accuracy issues, the problems that I noticed is that Kevin lacked the ability to throw the ball with some touch on it, and his inability to be able to read a defense. He would always drop back and just lock in on one receiver the whole time which would be an easy pick 6 for the other team. He really could never gain the feel for looking off his receivers and then coming back to them, or the ability to be able to go beyond his 1st level off reads on into his 2nd, or 3rd. Hey it could have been with Kevin not having the talent, or it could have a little something to do with Elrod. Hey I love coach Elrod, and you won't find a better person in the world than him. But if you look at our QB's under his directions really none of them have gotten better, and several have gone on to other places and played way better than they did here at Wake. People want to say,"Well what about Skinner, hell they had him basically 3rd string. Skinner was a fluke, and Skinner was good because it was already in him, not because Elrod developed him.

Re: Kevin Sousa

I wish Kevin the best and hope he is able to fulfill all his goals, whether that's making a splash somewhere in FB or just getting a good degree.

It is surprising to me that he did not pan out.  I get that some players do not develop as expected, but if the issues are as fundamental as mock says seems like they would have been apparent during the recruiting process.

I will go on a limb and say he will continue the tradition of the WF to UNCC pipeline.

RE: Kevin Sousa

A reasonable option, IMO, would be for Kevin to fight for playing time next year and get a Wake degree. He would have several good options based on his play to get a masters and use his 5th year at Wake or another school or end his playing
days. Having a Wake degree(s) is as some say priceless. Leaving early is something he will live with just not knowing what
could have been.

Re: Kevin Sousa

rock62 I understand what you are saying about the degree, and you make a great point. You have to understand the other side though. This kid has worked hard to play college football, and you only get 4 years to play college football and you only get that chance once in your lifetime. These guys all work so hard in Winter workouts, and in Spring Ball, and maybe the kid just wants to be able to make a few memories on the football field in college before his eligibility runs out.
