Wake Forest Has a Coach

Wake Forest Has a Coach

Fire away.  Bring all your negatives but we beat state like a drum for most of the second half and hung on to win.  Credit where credit is due.

RE: Wake Forest Has a Coach

Way too early to decide that. Let's see what happens the rest of this season and assess then. There's a lot of games left, and we are capable of losing any game to any team at any time.

We're also going to be underdogs against the spread in the next 6 or so games. Let's at least wait and see where we are then. This thread could look comical in a couple of weeks.

Re: Wake Forest Has a Coach

Lol, no.  We aren't even at the same level we were with Dino and it's been 3 years.  Give it a rest.  Bz isn't a good fit for this program for so many reasons.  It'll take a monumental effort to make the CBI or NIT (which should never, ever be the goal for WFU).  Bz and Wellman have lowered the standards to a point where we celebrate a once routine victory.  The "Butler Model" that Wake is apparently going after is hogwash.  Butler doesn't offer the academics of Wake, the ACC and we don't have Brad MFing Stevens.

Dino>>>Bzdelik and it's not even close.

Re: Wake Forest Has a Coach

Tough stretch coming up, and dan87 is correct, so this win is even bigger to give the guys some confidence - they've shown themselves what they can do, but they're still frosh and playing some pretty good teams in the next few.

Great win, great win, great win, great job Coach and you've got these guys playing their tails off for you.

Amen. We do need to give credit when it is deserved...and tonight it was deserved.

Re: Wake Forest Has a Coach

Not so sure. The NCSU announcers were pretty upset because we beat them scheme wise in the second half and seemed to make all the right moves. That's what Stevens does. We have a gem in Devin Thomas and maybe they were even correct about Tyler Lewis. Things look better than I thought.

RE: Wake Forest Has a Coach

Come on you Bzz haters. You can do better than that! I know it just kills you to see the tie dye shirts rush the court knowing he is our coach. Maybe he is not the fit for Wake forest but he is our coach and deserves our support. One game does not a season make but we are a bad call away from being 4 and 2 in the conference. That is all.

Re: Wake Forest Has a Coach

I think the staff have proven they can coach.  I don't know what the win loss record will be but they have shown they can recruit and they can coach.

Our young team is responding, respects their coaches and play hard.

RE: Wake Forest Has a Coach

Our 2nd half was as good as Wake has played in a very long time. The interior passing against the press was text book...and that is coaching.

But, what won this game was the heart of our team--especially Thomas.

Re: Wake Forest Has a Coach

One game does not a coach make, but congrats to Bzzz for his 1st top 50 win and even better a top 20 team.  And best yet a tobacco road opponent.

Some improvement is being seen as this team continues to find their identity and wonder if we shouldn't be pressing more with the athleticism and length we have between Rountree and Mckie, our athletic guards and quick big men.  Really created a lot of havoc in 2nd half creating a # of easy buckets.

I will say for all the rejoicing how atrocious was the last inbound play???  Honestly your upperclassman with a line drive to half court that turns into a long 3 pointer for NCSU.  What was our best win in 3 years almost turned into an absolute nightmare in a matter of 1.2 secs.  Need to work on our inbound plays as not sure you could have fared worse other than a direct hand off under our basket.

They appear to be well coached to me. The freshmen play hard and are only going to get better.

Credit to BZ, my only gripe is he had 3 timeouts and held them too long. We really lost our composure w/o CJ and he needed to burn one. Other than, my hat is off to him and the team

Re: Wake Forest Has a Coach

A two point win on our court and some of you guys are GaGa.  We still do not have a coach.  And one two pointer is not a hero- maker against a consisten dismal record.  Wake deserves much better.  I am glad for the team, but Bz is a "no-sale".  When this season gets a little deeper come
back  and restate your realistic analysis.  Personally, I hope Bz is not at Wake next year.  Too much punishment already.

Maybe. But weren't you glad we had one on the last inbounds play in case something went awry?

RE: Wake Forest Has a Coach

And you have to give some credit to the coaching for the heart. At the shoot around today he challenged them to play with passion. At halftime he said they were paying scared. He lit a fire under them about rebounding whenState started off getting everything.

Listening to him explain the zone offense in past game was pretty impressive. When was the last time you saw. A Wake team who knew how to attack a zone and execute it?

A far as. The last play goes, when they took the timeout there was .7 seconds on the clock. They didn't put 1.2 on until Wake was out of their huddle and only had one timeout left. Coach was pretty upset about that ps them b/c it changed everything but he didn't have a chance to address the change.

Coaches coached well and the team rose to that challenge. Well done, gentlemen.

Apparently the basketball community doesn't agree with you about how great Dino is... Not saying he isn't maybe better than Bzzz - you could argue it either way. However if he is the genius many claim him to be why 3 years removed and not even an offer to be an assistant somewhere.

Very good observation.  With only .7 left, that play makes perfect sense.

You aren't familiar with a non-compete are you?  Why would Dino take a job when ESPN pays him 6 figures to not coach?  How many NCAA games has Dino won vs Bzdelik?  How many times did Dino get humiliated on his radio show versus Jeff?  Please tell me.  I remember Bzdelik getting lit up on his radio show by some dude from OGB.

Buzz is still having to clean up that mess Dino left behind. There was more coaching in the second half tonight then Dino's entire tenure.
