Wake VS NC State - Hi Interest Football Recruits

Wake VS NC State - Hi Interest Football Recruits

Assuming the Scout profiles are accurate there are 6 FB players with Hi Interest in Wake and several of those with Med and Hi interest with NC State. It will be interesting to see if Grobe and Co can lock these recruits down, or will he lose them to the new NC State coach. If the latter happens, this is not a good trend for us. NC State has very few advantages over Wake unless you are an engineer. Hence, these recruits would be choosing State because of YOUNG Energy. We will see soon...

This.  LSU apparently has few advantages over Wake, either.  eek1

A large state school with practically unlimited funds and facilities has very few advantages over a small, private school with academic restrictions that State will never have?

Doesn't really mean much but I went on graysons Facebook page, and their is several pictures and comments on the VOLS! I have a feeling it may come down between us and the VOLS know! Its interesting that his favorite college team is Clemson, but I guess they never offered!

Trend?  When has there been a trend where we HAVE routinely beat out NC State for most recruits?

Welcome back Socal, always there to state what is the obvious as a sign that Wake is doomed because of Grobe.

State and Carolina have always had, and always will have, an advantage over Wake in both recruiting and especially keeping athletes in school.  (see latest UNC scandal).

The Trend is we miss them.  A new trend is we get 2/6.

Bottom line is your not going to compete with State, or UNC for recruits! You might out recruit State, or UNC for a player once in awhile but not on a consistent basis! Thats why I feel Grobe goes outside of the State so much, even with winning the ACC Championship, and going to a few bowl games that didn't really even seem to open anymore doors for him in recruiting in NC! Maybe its just kids growing up liking, and dreaming of playing for State, or UNC more then Wake, or maybe it's that Grobe , and his coaching staff has never connected good with a lot of NC coaches, and built those recruiting pipeline relationships were the coach kinda pushed the kid towards Wake, or maybe its the combination of both!noidea

Or maybe it is, as Jeff Teague put it, the fact you have to go to class and do your homework.

Re: Wake VS NC State - Hi Interest Football Recruits

It could be that of course, I've just heard over the years from guys that help the staff out in different areas of the state in recruiting as far as going to area High School games lets say in the Raleigh area they would go to games and basically talent scout players who they felt could plat at Wake! then they would phone one of the coaches at Wake and tell them, and they would call up the coach at the High School and request film, and if they liked what they saw on film they would personally go down and make a visit to the High School! Because our coaches can't be everywhere watching games in the state, and plus we have to get ready to play football games ourselves, so theses scouts are very important! Ive heard from a few that it is tough sledding because State, and UNC has such great ties to all the head High School coaches in the State of NC, even with coaching changes they still like to pump those kids out to those 2 programs!

UNC and NCSU are 'state' schools.  They will always focus first on in-state recruits.

Wake, on the other hand, is a regional/national school.  Hence, we cast our net wider for recruits...........FL, TX, etc.

(I could also add that Wake goes to national bowl games every so often, like the Orange Bowl, while UNC and NCSU do not.............but I'll save that for later)

Well, there was a column in the N&O the other day that Duke had re-focused some recruiting on NC guys. IIRC, they had about 28 now on roster. I recall they got the NC RB we wanted last year.

Yeah he ran all over us, kid from Mallard creek coaching staff was late on him, and pushed i believe for nick Knott, chris givens brother who isn't even with us anymore over that kid, just like we chose Rucker over Coner, from Dukeeek1 And unless we get a knew offensive, and defensive cordinator anytime soon you better hold on to those memories, because the bowl games will all be but gone!

Jela Duncan.
He turned out to be a good one. Started for Duke as a true freshman, and, as you said, ran all over us. We'll be seeing lots more of him in the next few years.
