Jim Grobe cruises to another paycheck

Jim Grobe cruises to another paycheck

I would interested in the feelings on this program from Deacon Club members and large donors.

At least Jim Grobe didn't have any stupid quotes in today's Winston-Salem Journal.  Maybe he read my post.

RE: Jim Grobe cruises to another paycheck

What were his quotes after yesterday's game? There's no MTOW so far, which is surprising. I guess Dan's take was that we sucked in ever aspect and that didn't need to be reported because it was so obvious.

“Their kids were ready to play,’’ Coach Jim Grobe of Wake Forest said.

Isn't the implication there that our kids were not?

I sit in the fancy seats in tower and am in gold club. Considering not renewing my license for another 5 years unless major changes in coaching staff. Grobe should stay but we need real OC and DC and better recruiting coordination quickly. Going to games has been too seldom fun for last 5 years and the drive home after a drubbing is no fun. Better things to do with my time if the games offer no pleasure and just agony.

We are screwed, we are paying Grobe an enormous salary for consistently mediocre results (last 4 years) because of this and financials involved in Dino's firing, our hands are tied in terms of hiring a top notch coach in our signature sport - basketball. The athletic dept. is a gigantic mess

i can't imagine after the dino-bzzz mess welllman wants to fire/hire another major coach before he is done at wake.  grobe's here through his contract, so brace yourselves to continue banging up against his self-imposed glass ceiling.

Re: Jim Grobe cruises to another paycheck

stop the revenue and changes will come.  it looks like the Deacon Club would be really upset with the product showing up on the field and constantly embarrasing the school.  Grobe needs to go, the buck stops at his desk and he is not going to change anything until a great deal of presure is put on him or he is given an ultimatum.  I have been a Grobe supported. but the last four years have done it for me.banghead

By my count, that's 10 times we've gotten absolutely clobbered in less than 3 seasons.

After the show Stan did ask the coach his feelings about going up to south bend, and taking on the know 3rd ranked team in the country, and here was his quote, Well Stan we will go back to work this week and have to work a little HARDER, and have a better GAME PLAN," Coach Jim Grobe Wake Forest! What the hell coach don't you think a better GAME PLAN, and a harder week of work might have helped agains't the PACKbangheadeek1noidea. Man I can't seem to figure this guy out even after 12 season!

We have needed a change at offensive coordinator for years.

Just making a point that after the 2005 year with a stud like Barclay and nothing to show for it alot of folks were screaming FIRE then but the 2006 came and put the FIRE out. Now 6 years later its spreading again so maybe next year will put the fires out again. But alot of us are getting to old (birthday wise) for "maybe next years"....

If Jeff Bzdelik said something like this our "fans" would be absolutely destroying him for throwing the players under the bus.

I think our problems center primarily around recruiting. Serious changes need to take place in our recruiting efforts.  we are never going to be consistently competitive with 2 star recruits.  Northwestern and Vandy are finding students athletes, we need to do the same.

Re: Jim Grobe cruises to another paycheck

I disagree about recruiting.  Grobe's most successful teams were full of 1 and 2 star kids.  The difference was we had an offensive identity and scheme that drove opposing defenses crazy.  The issue is simple, our OC is terrible.  Grobe is insanely stubborn and loyal to this man for whatever reason.  Lobo is sucking the air out of this program and Coach Grobe just keeps fiddling while everything else burns.  I love Coach Grobe and want him to stay but Lobo HAS to go.

Do whatever it takes to get an improvement at OC and DC...If the money ain't there, take it from Grobe's salary until he earns it back...Right now Jim Grobe should show up wearing a mask to pick up his check!!!

We should have seen improvement over the last 2 years. I know we made a bowl but we limped in with a bad finish and still ended up with a losing season. Grobe told us to expect better this year and we have not. Lobo uses every excuse in the book for this putrid offense he puts on the field and it is way past time for he and Grobe to take some responsibility for this mess. He has to go or be demoted to where he has no say in the offense. We are paying way to much money for the product we are seeing and it is inexcusable. I am a significant donor to the Deacon Club. Not Moricle but I spend a lot each year and I am sick of this crap. Now they want more. I frankly have told them no but it doesn't seem to matter because someone always rescues their asses. Grobe should donate half of his two million for the next damn project.

What excuses does Lobo use? I have never seen a quote from him this year. What did I miss?

Actually, those teams were not full of 1 and 2 star kids, no matter what the ratings said.  We had a core of very good players that had not been recognized as such until, all of a sudden, they began to play at a very high level for the Deacs.  Those classes were a kind of recruiting perfect storm.
The answer is simple.  Until we get quality players, we are not going have a consistently winning  football (or basketball) team.
The Alabamas of the world are great football teams with lots of great 4-5 star players.  BTW, many of these players go on to NFL success.  This is no coincidence.
Getting the highly rated players is not  necessarily a guarantee for success, as character, etc, play a part too; but getting highly rated players is a good start.
Not saying we can get this type of player consistently, but it all starts with quality of players on your team.
