Rollins Game
I didn't see the game; but if stats tell any story, we better shoot a lot better or we won't win many B-ball games this year. 18% from 3 pts and 59% from FT... Come on guys-- I'm old and I can do better than that from free throw line right now. This is Rollins... not encouraged... one great stat-- Madison had 7 steals!

Re: Rollins Game
I saw it, we just couldn't hit anything - D was generally good until the end when Rollins made 3-4 from 3 in last 90 seconds or so, 15 steals as a team, we're able to defend better out on the perimeter at least against these guys, I wasn't disappointed to be watching 7 frosh out there. We really were cold though. We HAVE to be better shooting FTs and I know we will be.

Re: Rollins Game
I was there, and I was really encouraged. I felt like we had more energy and hustle than I have seen in a while. #2 Thomas was very impressive, lots of spirit.
But, yeah, the crowd was pretty sparse.

Re: Rollins Game
Just glad to get the win....wins help the confidence! True, we need to shoot it better, especially from the FT line.

Re: Rollins Game
I was there as well and totally agree with what PJ said. The only thing I would add is Madison Jones was really impressive as well handling the ball , hustle, and getting steals.

Re: Rollins Game
This team will be overpowered inside and struggle to score in the post. No surprise when all the bigs are freshmen.
CJ was CJ. Got to the basket, made free thows, but missed jumpers. Stopped taking jump shots in the second half. Travis was Travis. Scored inside, made free throws, played hard, but missed jumpers. Chase was Chase. Played hard, stayed in position mostly, missed jump shots, got beaten on one back-door cut.
Danny Green looked good in his suit. We will miss him this year.
Jones was impressive. Quick on defense, got to the basket a few times, one nice assist, hit a three on an assist from CMM CMM will be a solid player this year. Scored well. Made a couple of plays with the shot clock going down inc. the assist to Jones. Adala Moto will be able to defend some and rebound some. Will get a few put-back baskets but I wouldn't count on him to score much this year. Rountree played only in the later part of the second half. Hit a three from the corner, blocked three shots (may not have gotten credit for one because Cavanaugh got called for blocking), deflected 2 passes out of bounds, and committed 3 fouls (one good, two over-aggressive) Cavanaugh will not be strong enough to be a good post player. Has trouble getting the ball to the rim in traffic and finishing with contact. Good form on his jump shot, but they didn't fall. Did play without fouling Thomas is easily our stongest post player but still is not strong enough, showed a good drop step and hustle. Played without fouling. Form on free thows looked pretty good, but the shots didn't drop. (shots didn't drop=recurring theme) Washington is not polished, but can be a defensive presence if he can be in position. Got a nice put-back basket in traffic. He has lots of potential, next year or year after???
The team came out of time outs and half time running good set plays. Seemed generally to be together as a team. I know some won't want to hear this, but they appear to be well-coached.

RE: Rollins Game
Jones made at least 4 passes that were better than any I can recall from the PG position last season...but then my memory is not very good. But, he surprised me with his interior passing.

Re: Rollins Game
I was there too. DeacAtHeart gave a good summary of the game and the play of the kids. We have a couple good PGs, but they're young. Inside scoring will be sparse this year too just because we're young. Thomas and Moto will eventually be good inside.
Shooting just looked like early season lack of practice. Hustle was superb and everybody played with enthusiasm. Too many bounds we had and didn't control -- again young and need to get stronger.
There was definitely good coaching influence seen. I know many of you can't believe that, but there was. This bunch will be very good but will only be somewhat improved this season because they are so young and need to mature physically and mentally. Things look good for the next couple seasons after this.

But Jones made some passes that reminded me of Ish as a senior. He did not appear to be as nervous or hesitant as I expected. Not sure how many turnovers he had; but apart from getting lost on d. a couple times, he played a superb game...even hit a 3!

Re: Rollins Game
Jones' assist that stood out in my mind was a dump off on penetration in the first half. Forgot who received that dime, but it was beautiful. Knew he had a few assists and very few turnovers--5&1 is good even against a DII team that does not have anywhere near DI quickness. The team hustle was nice to see also. Once they didn't hustle back on defense and that got an immediate TO from Bz. If they keep up that hustle, they could be watchable even when getting beated badly, which I fear will happen often.

Devin Thomas benefited from Jones' pass.

Re: Rollins Game
Hey a win is a win, and from what I gather even though the team is very young they looked like they are at least headed in the right direction, and that long term means a lot!

Re: Rollins Game
CMM made a great hesitation dribble causing his defender to think he was passing the ball. CMM then drove the baseline for a layup. The defender was totally lost.

Re: Rollins Game
Madison had a sweet behind the back dribble to elude a defender, then immediately made a no look pass to a cutter for a layup.
