Verica

Verica

It's been really surprising to me how fast and how well Verica's turned it around. Now that I think back, I shouldn't be all that surprised. Remember how it was only until very late did Lalich get picked as the starter? Verica must've given him at least a bit of a run for his money in practice. Guy still throws up some INTs though, and if he gets too rattled he can make the wrong decision. Just a little more experience I think will go a long way.

Re: Verica

Reminds me alot of a young Schaub. Went to the same High School as Schaub as well. This season is reminding me A LOT of that 2002 season. Bad start then the lights came on.

not the same high school, but the same general area.  Schaub was West Chester, Verica is Monsignor Bonner

Re: Verica

i still don't like the way he doesn't step into a lot of his throws. as far as the schaub comparisons i don't see it. schaub was very very accurate. the ball sails on verica a lot and he throws with too much arm and nothing else.

verica to me is not a pro down the line but he's played a lot better than i thought he would.

it's henne time...

Re: Verica

I remember Schaub coming in some his Sophmore year and looking awful. Couldn't hit the broad side of a barn same thing in the Colorado St. game then 2nd half FSU the light came on and Jr. year was his coming out party. I can see Verica having a great Jr. year especially after all the experience he is getting this year. And I agree about not stepping into his throws. He is all arm. But Im willing to bet that will get worked on this off season.

Re: Verica

Verica must be some sort of sorcerer. I have no idea how he manages to make certain throws so accurately while falling away. Sometimes it seems to me he throws two bad picks a game just to make it interesting.

Re: Verica

There is a real posibity that he will be the best qb in the ACC the next 2 seasons. He could easily get drafted. No idea if that translates into anything.

RE: Verica

The best QB's will be TJ Yates and Riley Skinner, and maybe Nesbitt, and maybe the NC State guy. but i would bet any amount of money Verica will not be drafted

Anything is possible, I guess, but I think Verica simply doesn't have the arm to be an NFL quarterback.  I see him as a poor man's Todd Collins right now with the potential to be, well, Todd Collins.  Yes, Collins did great last year in Jason Campbell's stead, but he's got just a bit more zip on the ball than Marc, plus he's bigger and taller, too.

That said, Verica might end up being just as well suited to the college game as Collins with the ability run the ball pretty effectively and good straight-line speed (4.7 sec 40).  In fact, if he can keep up the pace he's been playing for the rest of the season, he could very well get Honorable Mention All-ACC or maybe even 2nd Team, but that's a long shot.

Re: Verica

If Verica is able to put some weight on (especially lower body), and can consistently use proper mechanics, I see no reason why he won't be drafted in a later round. I think it's hard to judge how strong his arm is considering he falls away on at least half his throws.

Re: Verica

he has performed well considering he got no work in practice the past two years as he was behind Cavman the mascot on the depth chart....

Re: Verica

Why could he not work on stepping into his throws during practice, NOW?

I'llsee your Todd Collins and raise you a Chad Pennington.
